It's practically the same as EOB. There is a remake of this game with better graphics. The link is in my signature.
There are many, many remakes :P Check the links in the 'Extras' options. The DM encyclopeida has a list of 20-something ports and remakes, some in real 3d :ok:

I had this game back on the ol' Amiga. One of the best games I have ever played in my life. Some puzzles are extremely challenging.

I can't believe DM is available again! :D This was the game that made all Amiga owners envious of the Atari ST when it first came out - it was quite a time before FTL did a port. Anyone know if the official sequel "Chaos Strikes Back" is available anywhere?
How does this game compare to the Eye of the beholder series? Is it better or worse?
Eye of the Beholder seemed to be inspired by DM, and the EOB series took things forward by a couple of steps. Firstly, the graphics and scenery were a little more varied, including outdoor areas. And secondly, the creatures, spells and weapons were supposed to be based on the official Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rules (3rd edition IIRC), so it had an air of authority about it. But I still enjoyed playing DM right up until my ST went to the great computer junk-heap in the sky.

I love DM ...
but I love EOB more! Especially part 3 !
The story is - somehow - more for to indetify yourself with. You have this sub-scenes where you talk to people that really have something to say ... and (o'coz) the graphics are much nicer !
But even better is: The "Realm of Arcania" saga !

Dungeon Master is an amazing game, even today. I originally had it on the Amiga, and remember it took me months to complete... after playing it again recently though it only took a few days to get through - bad guys just aren't as tough as they used to be.
The sequel Chaos Strikes Back tries to do pretty much the same, but the game is a LOT more difficult.
Later came Dungeon Master 2, which I recently played. It's a decent enough game, with better graphics and sound, but it doesn't feel quite the same as the original.
Anyone into this game must check out this dedicated website - http://dmweb.free.fr/
It has downloads of all the games, plus all the hints, tips, maps and walkthroughs you could dream of.
The link was allready in the Extras section on the Review page :P

Aaahh YES, finally the ultimate RPG;) You can play it over and over again and it's still challenging:) Lot of people think EOB is much better just because of the improved graphics, but seriously, this is No.1:)

[FONT=Impact]Here I found some maybe usefull info about the game. Hope it helps, I have walkthroughs also but there is too much of them (for every level). If you want any of them just contact me. :ok:
The only reason I wrote this solve was because even though the game is not all that hard, its still an adventure, and I love to make solve files so if you got stumped on any level, then this solve should help you make it to the next level ok... First of all, get the DMHINT disk which has all the maps for all the levels... You really need maps... I'll tell you bout the tricky areas of each levels and how to overcome them, and even the special items on each level and their uses... I've spent over 100 hours with this game… (an ORIGINAL since no-one can make a successful crack. heh)
I wrote this solve in the order of things I did to complete the game, on some levels, you don't have to do the same things I did...but to ensure you the correct way, then you could follow my pathways, at least you'll see most of the game this way. (Shortcuts are always no fun!!) On with the solver!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First: here's a breakdown of all the characters you could take...I solved the game with HISSSA, Elija,Sonja and Gothmog. I suggest two good Warrior types, a powerful Priest and Wizard...

This is one of the best games of all time, a friend and I played this to death back in the day. Eye of the Beholder was rubbish by comparison. Better graphics, much better in fact, but it is the gameplay that matters. Things like spellcasting, I love the way DM makes you cast spells by learning the sequence of glyphs you need to press. Press the wrong one because you forgot the sequence, or because you were distracted by mummies trying to cave your head in, and the spell would be miscast and mana wasted. EotB had you just click the spellbook and cast it automatically, DM makes you practise the spells. Do you go for the level 3 spell that you have a 90% chance of casting? Or do you risk the level 4 spell that you have only a 50% chance of casting? Darkness plays a part as well, the dungeon isn't conveniently lit up for you. The torch is burning low, do you cast a light spell or gamble on a fireball to finish off the worm in front of you?
This game is the daddy of its genre, and it still holds up well now. Best played on the Amiga version downloadable from the fansite that was linked to earlier in this thread, but do play it.

Resurrecting a champion keeps stats. Reincarnating may lower or raise stats.
As far as I can recall, resurrecting a character as you say keep stats the same. Reincarnating them starts your characters off with no skill levels - What this means is that the game starts harder, as you can hardly cast spells or use weapons, but in the long run you end up with slightly higher stats as you have increased through more skill levels.
In Dungeon Master, you get more experice the lower down in the dungeon you go for doing the same thing.
You should try and get everyone to at least journeyman in everything as soon as possible. This will increase their hit and mana points as well as other stats. You can use the following methods:
Fighters: Your front two characters should have no problem with this, but later in the game try putting your rear two characters into the fight to increase their fighter skills. Obviously only do this against the easier baddies (the Green Screamers which look like small trees are your best bet).
Ninja: Throwing things improves ninja skills, as does using bows and crossbows. You will still gain experience from punching the air though, so on the first level after you've selected your team, if you have the patience, get everyone to punch the air until their levels improve... then try it again later once your fingers have healed.
Priest: Some fighters start the game with no mana, but don't worry, they'll get some given to them at a certain level later. Everyone should be trained to make good healing potions. They're simple to make, the only priest spell I ever really use, and don't require monsters to be around for you to get the max experience. So get everyone to make the healing potions as soon as you can, improving the power of the cast as their levels improve. To cast the spell, have a potion in hand and cast the power, then the first symbol on the left (looks like a river).
Wizard: By far the most useful wizard spells in the game are light, and fireball. Light doesn't require monsters to get full experice, so is a good trainer. Cast the power, then the "N" symbol. Fireball is power, then "N", then "E".
As a note, fireball effects all 4 creatures in a square, whereas the more powerful lightning spell just gets the first enemy on the caster's side.

The rock monsters are pretty tough enemies. They are thankfully very slow though.
Try using lots of fireballs and poison clouds on them. If you want to take them on head to head, run up to them, hit them with your front characters, then retreat one step before they attack back.
A good tactic for defeating any monster is to stand just infront of a door. Then when the creature comes to you, simply close the door... the resulting bashing of the door on their head can do a fair bit of damage. When they retreat eventually, open the door and wait for them to come forward again. Coupled with some good whacks of your sword and some spells, most of the slower monsters will be history in no time. Faster monsters are a bit too quick for this trick though.

Some of the monsters do come from generators. Almost exclusively though the monsters from generators are generated from walking on a certain square. So walking backwards and forwards looking around can often trigger new monsters.
One exception I can think of is a room full of Screamers (tree things), and these are generated over time. It's on one of the lower levels and basically is a godsend for collecting food supplies.
Oh, I remembered about the rock monsters - hit them when they attack you for maximum damage i.e. when their face comes out of the rock.

This game is what the other RPG apired to be. I remember may nights up with my fiend mapping dungeons. Preparing the part to round the corner fire off a poison bold or fireball then hacking with sowrds.
Anyway the original question "How does this game compare to the Eye of the beholder series? Is it better or worse? "
EOB only wishes it could be this good. Also Chaos Strike back is also available wiht DM in windows version that can you can transfer a save game file to a pocket pc version.
Just follow the extras link

"for some reason whenever my character upgrades like new level in ninja some of his stats go temporarily down..is it normal?"
Don't worry, your stats haven't gone down, the upper limit has gone up, and so the stat has to 'heal' up to the new level.
"anyone knows wheres switch for that gate theres gate at the stairs i cant find a way to open it tried choping with axe, ZO spell"
If we're thinking about the same door (you mentioned level 4, with the worms etc), down the corridor before getting to the blocked exit stairs there is a mummy standing on a square, on the other side of a pit. There is a sign nearby ("This is my prisoner, let him suffer" as I recall) - kill the mummy! Throw any item at him, or use an attack spell; when he dies, he releases a switch, opening the door. Warning: the area also then gets groups of worms wandering around, and there are few points where you can get past them - you'll have to find a place when you can fight them instead.
Dungeon Master is a great game! I know the upper levels of the dungeon better than the area where I live... strange though, as much as I've played it, I've only completed it twice. Second time was earlier this year, when I completed a personal challenge - finishing the game only using one character (I used Sonya).

Does anyone know of another game much like this one? I'm afraid I forgot the name, so you will probably call this a wild goose chase, but I'm hoping I can find someone who knows. Its a game much like this one. I first began playing it around 1992, and we (family members) would always call it "Dragon". Its much like Dragon Masters, I think, I have not yet played this one, but it did not have an inventory control. The main idea of "Dragon" was to try to fight your way to the bottom of a dungeon. Level 1 (the top) held no monsters, but it had various shops and stores, such as Potion Shops, Armouries, Weaponsmiths, etc. Each level below that (Levels 2, 3, 4, etc.) contained bigger, and more powerful monsters. You moved NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, and WEST in hall ways. The roof and floor is a bright, neon green, and the walls were stone blocks. Some of the key monsters were called Dragonflies, Queen Dragonflies, Dragons, and Queen Dragons. There was one way to get out of the dungeon, though, and that was on Level 1 with the shops and rest areas (there MIGHT have been an exit at the bottom floor, but I was never able to get there); that was an exit into the wilderness. The wilderness was a text based area, using various symbols and colours to create a "text map". But, the only way to leave the wilderness, was to find another dungeon.
Please respond if you have any knowledge about where I might be able to find this can, or of the name of this "Dragon" game, I have come to believe that Dungeon was not its true name, after countless searches of Abandonia and related sites.

Both Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back have been adapted to the PC with a specially designed engine. The coolest thing about it is that it allows you to record entire games. This feature has also led to some competitions to see who could finish the games the fastest. The records are:
31min 45sec for DM
10min 37 sec for CSB
You can find the movies here (scroll down to the "competitions" section) http://dmweb.free.fr/CSBForWindowsLinux.htm
Very impressive to watch, especially when one has played these games and struggled for 20+ hours tying to complete them.

i would like to mention an error when playing dungeon master on DOSBox. I don't know if everybody knows about this but on the "manuals, walkthroughs, tips & tricks" link on the game page, when you get to the new page which is the encyclopedia site of DM, highlight dungeon master and a list will popup and then you will scroll down and click on tips & tricks. it should show you a few things such as the infinite health cheat which requires debugging the FIRES file in the game directory. I tried this infinite health trick and afterwards when i start the game, it doesn't run. it says this debug code only works on the multilanguage v3.4 dungeon master. is this the version of the game on Abandonia??

The Screamers and the purple worms are great food and the areas definitely repeat going back to for additional food to fill your chests. The only better food source are the rats .
Big tip for playing. When you get the staff and make it on the very bottom level then be careful not to cross the switch plate holding the staff. If you do - it seals the upper levels off and you can't get back up to food. You can toss the staff across the plate and then cross and the master staircase won't close off...

"On Remembering Dungeon Master"
It was in 1989 that I discovered the enchanting Dungeon Master RPG game. The dramatic dark shadows cast upon stones, gold laden doorways and the shimmer of blue liquid contained in the flasks added to the beauty and mystery of this revolutionary game. Because there was no soundtrack except for the ambient sound effects a rising portcullis, or the a click of discrete button, I would put on the classic works of Gustav Holst βThe Planets.β To this day this is my favorite piece of music and it always brings me back to the beckoning corridors of βDungeon Master.β

Hi, there,
Why this game is so though?
I am in Level 3 totally confused. It so dark around. My foods and water finished. A rock-like creatures attacked and killed me so easy?
What's going on?
Why?
I am not novice in RPG games but now I have no hope to beat these monsters.
How to use?

- scrolls?
- to produce water and food and other magics like never ending torches?
Yes, many questions ,But situation is out of control.

I was a member a loong time ago, still remember fondly finding abandonia and dos box, was very happy to play master of magic once more Anyway..
I was curious as to has anyone made the zo ka th ra stone and clipped it into the dragons staff to seal that evil wizard at the bottom most floor? Trapping him in a energy box isn't as easy as it sounds. My poor party suffered from my stupidity as wizard when I used the dragons staff point blank at a wall.. The front two of the party were burned to ashes. I had to go and rez them, as for my back two my healer suffered a major body wound to the lower extremities and the only reason I took little or no damage was because I found the fire resistant body armor
Thank you once again Abandonia

*note have your non casters yell at monsters early on for caster level ups :)
The magic box item casts the spell freeze life, good for stunning fast monsters
scrolls are just informational resources
they tell you how to cast spells, and clues for some of the puzzles
Water is found in the fountains spread through out the dungeon
Green screamers, purple worms, and huge gerbils are food type mobs
the first line of runes is the power setting
try the first power rune <</Lo, then N/Fu runes for magic torch light
also the 4 little dots/Oh then the Hourglass/Ven rune will cast a posion cloud
that those rock mobs don't like too much :)
have two or more of your party armed with the poison cloud spell and you can drive most mobs into corners, or better yet under doors then click and smack them to death with the door :)
Good luck, and try to find the dungeon master

Im not speak english, but i can make my best try
the Rock-like creatures, punch her many times an too fast,
each attack from this monster, can poisoned you
if have a glass, use spell "Lo" "Vi" "Bro"
"<<" "aquarius symbol" "()"
and drink her, is the cure
a small detail, the most strongers adventurers can suport the poison without serum "Lo" "vi" bro" (Halk, stamm, sonya, daroou)
if you not practice your spells, forget survive next levels
General tips::
practice your spells, you needed
maybe first you fail, many times, but is necesary for you make a Master or four Arch Masters
each attack with empty hand, help to obtain A ninja level
each stuff throwed, help to obtain a ninja level
each attack with a weapon, and each attack received from the monsters, help to obtain a Fighter level
each "war cry" (yaaah!!!) help to obtain a priest level, also champions without mana(stamm and halk)
be patient and give a champion with higher force, and power wizard
good luck!!
apologize my english
Hi, there,
Has the game one save plot only?
Is it possible to change battle positions of 4 characters?
If Yes, how?
I think to start with
2 front warriors - Hisssa and Sonja and
2 others - Elije and Gothmog.
Good idea?
What runes make Torch magic?
Ty
Hi, there,
I started the game with next battle layout:
2 front warriors - Sonja (left) and Hisssa (right)
and second line of
2 others - Gothmog (left) and Elije (right) .
Good idea?
I entered deep in level 2 meeting a field that can not entered from my side. There is a chest outside this field. The first chest I met in the game. I tried to enter back side of the field but a door closed when approached.
Rats! Any help or idea, please.
Q2: I make a copy of saved game. Y'know the game has 1 save Slot only. May I use saved game in the future if I do fatal mistake?
Q3: I am a poor spell-maker because have no any info how to make. Would be so kind direct me only the main principles in this area? Magics are vital in the forthcoming difficult levels and my first attempt before 3 years to advance without magics was complete ruin.
Ha ha!
Poor yoga was totally beaten in dark corridors.

I just killed the first Stone monster-very hard opponent!
It is a block of stones which very slow advanced.
3 knives, 3 Fireballs and... yes.. the simple door killed the monster. Very handy!!
But how to take the Compass after blue field?
There is a some trick...I approached the Compass and was thrown back in the start point..and again and again.
Heeeeeeeeeeeelp, plz.

That should help for spells.
The trick for the blue field is to keep the beat. Blue, blue, off... blue, blue, off. So you have to time it to rush forward two steps really fast at the same time the field is off. I always end up running into the wall, but trust me, you really need that compass.
Dear Ohne Mitleid,
Thank You very much for yr kind help: Link and advice for Compass and ...Danke!
After some careful attempts I finally grabed the Compass.
Hurray!
My progress in the game:
- I am just finishing level 3. I am exploding last of 6 areas namely Creature Caverns - this is last right door clockwise when enter the square with 6 doors. I just killed about 4-5 Mummies and some other opponents.
Here I want to make polite note that I disagree with some advisers telling that the best way against Rockpile " is to bash it when it open its face".
Easy to say, hard to do.
Instead of very slow walking this monster is very fast when opened the face and attacked.
In the very dark corridors is not easy to wait the monster advancing and bash it.. No, no need to risk! Moreover they are usually 2 monsters!
Simply lead them to outer door and click the door button right. 2-3 door up-downs and monsters are beaten to 2 big stones. Ha ha.
This game is very nice. Very classical RPG.
I am using mainly 3-4 spells: Magic torch, Fireball, Open door. Must train Poison cloud after finishing this area and before entering level 4.
I wanna increase my characters levels.
..I failed in some area where I was tricked by the tricky places- inverted 90 degrees.. Sorry but 4 keys are quite enough to enter level 4. I have these 4 keys already.
advancing yoga
PS: It is very nice to sleep 1 meter before enemies..
Not like Daggerfall note : Enemies around. No sleep"
:whistling:
Wow!
I entered level 4 to see that not everywhere have doors to smash the Rockpiles.
Moreover strong pair of Worms waited after the door.
What to do?
Before me are these worms, after me is walking Rockpile.
Rats!
What spell is more effective again worms?
Or some tactic?
Help me please..
Very difficult situation..

Lots of advice. Put your strongest, most heavily armed fighters with the best armor in front. Put your wizard and priest players in back. Advance and strike, then back off. Make the enemy chase you and try not to let them strike. When fighting more than one type of opponent, try to kill the weakest/smallest group first.
Don't chase the enemy into areas you don't know. It's better to wait to see if they return or give you the opportunity to follow a little ways after them. Otherwise you will find yourself surrounded, lost or just overwhelmed. Magic boxes can help freeze an enemy for a time, but either be ready to fight or ready to try to get away.
Don't forget the power of throwing objects from a characters hands by clicking the object on the screen. Example: you end up with three clubs in your inventory. Load one of the back two characters with one club in each hand and keep one as the mouse cursor. You are now ready to throw the club that is the mouse cursor and easily grab the other two clubs when needed to throw by clicking on the screen.
Learn how to dodge and circle around an enemy, instead of standing toe-to-toe. Whether you know it by now or not, there are enemies who have critical hits and can or will kill a character with one blow. You also don't need to kill everything you see. Sometimes, when in a room with one entrance/exit, it is better to pick up what you need from the room and leave. Make sure you close the door behind you.
Know your inventory. Screamer slices are food, but they don't really add up to much of a meal and weigh too much for one inventory slot. Don't eat until you are full, but eat until you are close to full, otherwise you waste too much food. If you are near a water source, fill your wine skins or potion bottles, and drink until your entire party is full. Then make sure your water skins are full before moving on. One other thing I remember doing was filling a chest up with good food and then dropping it in a place that was easy to get back to. When I cleared the level, I would then head back and pick up the chest. It's a lot easier than dropping things one item at a time then having to collect them all again.
Start small with spell level power and try to get everyone casting spells. Charge a spell before sleeping so you have more mana and the spell before you wake up again. Inventory items don't disappear, so you might want to work on finding little storage spaces you can drop extra equipment you want to come back to later. A lot of this game is about inventory management and eating, and it can become time consuming.
Different spells and potions are more effective against different enemies. Fireballs, for example, will kill mummies fairly quickly. The only thing to really keep in mind is that the game is played in real-time. You have to use your wits and everything at your disposal and you actually earn experience through actual experience. You don't need everything you find, but it up to you to figure out what is important. Don't ever overestimate your need for food and water. Once of the worst things in the game is walking along, dying of thirst and starvation with no relief in sight.
Best of luck to you!
My first victim in heavy battle with 2 worms.
BTW, ths rockpiles were 2, not one. Good door helped me. But these worms were very easy and chased me till the upstair. In the battle ( Fireball and Axe) I lost Hissa but killed both worms.
But rebirth altar was few meters back so I ressurected lovely green Hissa and voila.
Sadly new pair of these violet monsters appeared!
But this is fate of the brave yoga!
Even the battle with bad Frank in Fallout 2 was piece of cake against this worms!!
They attacked both at once and poisoned me immediately.
So I prepared 4 bottles with Anti poison mixture.
OFF: You really can ride yr bike without handlebars? Great!
Sehr gut!!

The fight against Horrigan is a piece of cake when you do it the right way (which I didn't note down, of course...).
OFF:
Sure. I remember that Frank and Sergeant group were against us - yoga 4-men army and 7 wall mounted machine guns. I have no any problems and after 4-5 minutes battle Frank was over.
Same in Fallout 1 when yoga from save distance ruined enemy-machine. About 65 shots and I won.
OK. Now I have to eliminate about 14 pair of hard worms. Violet and violent and big and pair.
Hard times for brave yoga, because I am unable to use all spells available. Still my heroes were not reach the level required.
For example my priest Elija does not create very important spell - Poison Cloud and my both fighters do not create simple spell - Magic torch. This way the game put the gamer in bad position to fight with axe, saber or even stones.
Never mind.
Some advisers said that is good idea to put my second line warriors (Wizard Gothmog and priest Elija) as a first line to acquire some battle experience. Maybe but against weak opponents.
yoga:OK:
I killed already 4 pair of worms.
And new appeared! Rats!! Some said they're 15 pairs!!!
Mama mia..
But my provision decreased even I eat only at yellow color of my meter.
I hope to find some Screamers for food.
To be fair I have some reserve in the boxes in the beginning of the level. Maybe now is the moment to back to water supply to level 2 and use my last food.
My water meters show about inch (2.54mm) water only.
Where are my good German advisers? Kmonster, twillight and other boys?
starving yoga
Actually in real life a yoga is possible to live with very small quantity of food.
Yes, I know.
Sadly my warriors are not yogi.
This game is not easy of all..
What easy was feeding in Ultima II! Take a fishing rod and goto near water. Voila!! 10-12 fishes without problem.
Keine Problem.
I have pleasure to announce that brave yoga finished level 4.
My God, what a fight with billion Magenta Worms.
Oh, this game is absolutely though.
The main factors are two: Light and food (water).
At last I am able to start direct duel with Rockpile.
But Worms are very, very hard opponents. God bless the doors. Without door I am unable at this stage to win against violet worms.
Q: If I back to level 4 Screamers room have I find again Screamers for foot?
TY, Danke sehr, Sposibo.

:oh: :omg:
There are rooms that regenerate Screamers and other enemies. Now would be a good time to find a water source that is nearby. Kill Screamers, eat, drink, sleep, kill more Screamers.
Now is also a good time to move Gothmog and Elisha to the front to fight and gain experience. It would also be a good time for everyone to practice spells.
With time, comes experience, as is true in life. The more time you spend building your party when you have resources, the less time you will spend dying in the future.

Yes, but time said me non stop: Yoga do not forget that food and light decreased every second. So I am forced as You before to be faster and faster and faster...
In Ultima II I was able to stop, to do order in my boxes end cetera. There time is very, very important factor..
..Yes, I know the Screamers room but before minute I visited it, and NO any Screamers? How, if, to start regeneration process?

Great advices!..Yes, I know the Screamers room but before minute I visited it, and NO any Screamers? How, if, to start regeneration process? You have to wait. If you want to know how long to wait, kill your last Screamer, save the game, start your timer and go to sleep (in the game). The Screamers will wake you up:doh:. That's what I did, anyway. Then I restored the game, found myself a water source, came back to the Screamer area and waited. Hmmm... did you ever try to fill your wineskin from a puddle on the ground? I can't remember if that works or not.
Last news: I passed 2 of 4 places in level 5. You'll have to remember, I am replaying this mostly from memory, so I don't really remember everything by level numbers. Level one is the level with the Hall of Champions, right? Or did you start counting when you went down one level?Q: I need some directions what monster with what spell to be beat. Now I dully use Fireball and from 2 minutes Poison cloud.I think there were over 20 monsters in the game. I don't remember how to kill every single one. Fireball, poison and lightning seemed to be the most effective, but not everything dies using just those three spells.PS: Is it possible constant light all the game?I think there are some magic amulets or necklaces that provide light if worn. Practice casting stronger light spells. Even if you fail at things, fighting or magic use, you still gain experience.
I see in Youtube some gay using 6 (!) save slots? How is possible?I don't know about 6 save games, but I do know that every time you save the game, it creates a BAK file of your save.:dunno: So you actually have two save games: The one you just saved and the point you just saved a game from.

I found how to start regeneration process for Screamers room. I passed the room in question and make 4-5 steps aside. Then back and voila.. 4 Screamers waited to be sliced. OK. I did 3 times when...yes..same f....d worms suddenly attacked me from aside. Now I panically escaped but prepare to back and kill the worms and cont. my slicing work, because I suspect that there will be no food, no much Screamers on levels forward. I plan to fill up 2 boxes with me for reserve.
...Yes, for me Hall of Champions is level 1. Now I am at level 5 (this one with many water wall resources), after level 4 with Screamers room. To clear more the things, there is a room with 30-40 teleporters. Remember? I will check yr idea for ground puddle for water and report.
I know that you help not playing the game and memory some time can not recall corectly the events. So my thanks are very thankful. I may say: Danke Sehr Gnadige Ohne Mitleid, of course.:hihihi:
Q: OK, now we have Screamers room. But after 2-3 levels I suppose will be not so handy to back to this 4 level. New similar rooms? If not how will yoga provide the group with food supply? Ummoglich!
This game is a big challenge for me, because 3 years ago I failed in Level 3, when 2 rockpiles beated me down. Now I am able to enter direct duel with rockpile and kill it.
Q2: This is principal Q. I did collect many stuff. Which is to keep and which is to throw out? New and new stuff appeared. Any direction?
What is this Rabbit foot for? Some AB member tell me - yoga this is for luck! True or he is kidding me? I have 2 already.
I am patient gamer, who do not advance fast as idiot. I evaluate the situation, save, and step by step try to overcome. Many times I battle with some opponent looooooooooooooooooong hours. I enjoyed to crash the enemy with more attempts. Still I use the tactic: Hit, run back and restore.
This is because I am still weak relatively...
I remember my long battle with bad Lord Xeem in saga Words of Xeen. Amazing!!

Oh, Mein Gott! Oh, Mein Gott! What a game!!
Can You imagine, dear Ohne Mileid, my last minutes before end of level 5?
Thanks to yr advice for save.bak file I resumed the lost game. Danke Sehr, noch ein mal!!
Well, brave yoga started the last road to West. Imagine mine field and yoga, carefully walking up-down surrounded by mines (actually traps). In this very hard moment.. yes.. but no one, nor 2 but 3 Snakes attacked me. They attacked my right line warrior Sonja and killed her 1-2-3 times. Well, I understand that Snake solution is 3 Clouds of Poison. Ok.
Yoga makes full strength columns, give Sonja the best armor, prepared 2 potions of Anti Poison and 2 potions of Health restore, prepared Elija and Gothmog with ready Clouds of poison spells and..started my road of hero. First Snake appeared - 2 spells - wipe out. Very fast I prepared new Clouds of Poison potions. Same story. At the same time I advanced to West. Entered. 3-th Snake followed me. Es gibt keine Problem. I am prepared, at stable ground and snake is kaput..
Note: As I promised I checked to take water by ground. Nein.
..Then new snake appeared and some strange green opponents (like green walking trunk). Eliminated. Mission accomplished.
.Now I am in the beginning of level 6. A skeleton wanted to tell me Hello with saber, but I politely sent it to a better world.
Very important note for the beginners:
At any cost close the door after Screamers room this way preventing polite visits of regenerated violet worms.

I'm glad I could be of some help. I really liked this game too.:woot:
Now, for your other questions:
For which equipment to keep and not to keep, sometimes that is hard to say. Some items are magic, some offer better protection and then you have to consider how much everything weighs on top of it all! I know you have Gothmog in your party (he was in mine too). I don't know if you still have it, but he was wearing something on his chest with a moon or something on it. He was the first one I used to figure out about magic items. Wear the shirt (or whatever it is), check his stats, take off the shirt, check his stats and something changes. It was one of his stats being less without the shirt than with it. The same method applies with items that are cursed. If you wear the cursed item, your stats will go down, not up, if the item is worn.
The rabbit's foot is supposed to boost your luck. I could never figure out if it was just luck for hitting things or for spells too. I could also never figure out if your character had to have it in their hand or just in inventory. The theory is, every character has a certain amount of luck. Let's say your luck is 100. You try to hit an opponent and would ordinarily miss, but your luck helps you and you hit instead. Your luck would then decrease. So if you rely on luck to hit (or cast spells?) and your luck score goes to zero? As the saying goes, you are out of luck or your luck just ran out. At some point during the game, I decided I was going to rely on skill rather than luck, then threw the rabbit's foot away.
Sorry about the water on the ground, but it was worth a try. The snakes and the traps:sick:. Now I guess you know why the snakes have wings near their heads. I think the green walking trunks are supposed to be some kind of slime monster. I thought they were the second worst drawn monster in the game. At least you have the worst drawn monster in the game to look forward to!
I'm glad I could be of some help. I really liked this game too.:woot:

Yes, I increase my experience but still I have no feeling I control the game. No, this game suprised me every moment. Every new step ahead brings me new and new opponents and new quiz.
OK. Time for more detailed situation:
Location - level 6.
Battle layout:
First line right warrior - Sonja (Fighter)
First line left warrior - Hisssa (Fighter)
Second line right warrior - Gothmog (Wizard)
Second line left warrior - Elija (Priest)
Weapon:
Sonja - Staff of Clans
Hisssa - Axe (my best weapon for now)
Gothmog - Compass
Elija - 2 throwing knives, star
Armor and weights:
Sonja- Large shield - 47 kg
Hisssa - Small shield - 49 kg
Gothmog - Buckler - 33 kg
Elija - Torch - 56 kg
Health + Stamina + Mana
So - 112, 80, 6
Hi - 185, 87, 5
Go- 90, 65, 56
El - 140, 96, 74
I do have 3 Magic boxes, 4 ordinary boxes, 8 glass bottles, some magic potions in glasses, 2 rabbit foots, 4 water skins, golden key, 4 gold coins, silver coin, 2 new torches, 1 RA key and other stuff.
Situation: I enter level 6 but in wrong place. Have to enter again level 5 and goto South to find correct place in level 6.
But I started giant supply operation assuming than in the future the food and water will very small and even nothing. So I will fill 3 x 8 = 24 Screamers slices in the boxes as reserve. The 4-th box will carry up these special ready MA, VI, Ku, Ya and Dain potions.
I will fill 4 waterskins and 8 glass bottles with water. The supply operation is about to end.
Note: Never in my life I learn so much game DM info. Even in the university!
I think this reserve will be enough for next 1-2 levels and hope to have chance to back again to my stock - Screamers room.
Would be so kind informing me is some similar room acting like Screamers room in next levels?
How to use VEN potions with Poison cloud?
And who is my last enemy?

Would be so kind informing me is some similar room acting like Screamers room in next levels?
How to use VEN potions with Poison cloud?
And who is my last enemy?
- There are more enemies that will supply you with future food. I think there are more regeneration rooms, but some of them are not only for the food providers.
- You use a VEN potion by throwing it. You click on the potion, hold it over the screen where you want it to go (like when you put items on the floor) and throw (click). Is that what you needed to know?
Oh, here's a tip. Some of the enemies you would want to throw potion bombs or cast fireballs, lightning or poison spells on are too short. The spells/bombs just pass right over them. If you want to use those spells/bombs against those enemies, try to position the enemy so they have a wall against their back (corners work really well). I remember this from when I cast my very first fireball ever against a Rockpile and watched it fly away into the darkness. Then I probably died.:headslap:
- I'm sorry, I can't tell you who the last enemy in the game is going to be. Trust me though, you will know when you see it/him/her/them.:omg: If you want to know more, download and read the manual. The main reason I won't give it away is because it is the only part of the game that actually involves a plot element. Otherwise, you fight, solve puzzles, sleep, eat, fight, sleep, eat...etc.
OK. Merci.
Yes, that is want to know for bombs and their usage.
Good. I will see my last enemy anyway. :3:
Now:
Heavy fighting in Level 6 with battalions of Skeletons and Wizard Eye-the last are very though opponents. They are some round yellow flying things (they attacked me at pair) and their hits are very strong - some like yellow fog before me - about 50 HP is every hit.
But I killed many of them with good old slam door tactic.
Otherwise You know our tactic Hit and Run to restore and back again.
4 of 5 iron keys required are found.
I"ll follow yr way and get off both rabbit foots and some panic horn (no enemy panic from it).
Please, excuse me I disturb You but You are the only Master of DM.
Moreover I know that German gamers are extremely good fighters and respect Them.
For example my best guru Gnadige Kmonster is excellent gamer also ....and German of course.
He is only man who passed Wizardry 6!!!
The game is so nice that I forget to eat and drink as my champions did.

Yoga? Now for TWO big surprises!
The first: There are alternate endings to the game. :yahoo:
The second: I'm American. :omg: I come from German blood, but born American.
Ohne Mitleid is a nickname given to me years ago because in high pressure situations, I can act without emotion, even if the outcome may be damaging to myself.
I hope you were lying down when you read that.
A couple more things... I noticed you listed Gothmog as only carrying a compass. That's another tip: don't leave hands empty. An empty hand can always carry a club, stone or boulder (or anything else) that you can grab and throw at an enemy.
This is something I tried, but I wasn't fast enough with the mouse. When you swing your weapon, you have to wait until the character is ready to swing again. But if you are quick enough, strike with your weapon, quickly grab their weapon out of their hand and drop it back in again and viola! They are ready to strike again immediately.

But if you are quick enough, strike with your weapon, quickly grab their weapon out of their hand and drop it back in again and viola! They are ready to strike again immediately.
Wow! I lay down. LoL.
Pls, excuse my German words. Poor yoga. The world is full with surplices, waiting around the corner. Anyway a quart or two of your blood is German. BTW You're the first American I meet in AB.
- Different game endings. Its normal. But I am asking You very politely is my last enemy human-like, animal, ghost, machine or not of all or all of before mentioned?
-Yoga, why you asking me every day same question?
Because, dear friend, knowing now who or what is the final boss I will better prepare mentally and physically for forth coming battle. For example in my gaming with Fallout 2 I know that Frank Horrigan will wait me. He has 1000 HP and 2 machine guns in his hands. So I evaluate my power and bought 25 special restoration potions and about hundred ordinary ones. This way the battle was piece of cake. My commandos and my alley 7 wall mounted machine guns fired again poor Frank. My role was to check HP of my commandos and heal them and even near injured machine guns. But 4-men army of Sergeant appeared. No problem, welcome. 3 rockets politely sent by yoga and voila. Soon Frank was eliminated and others opponents also. Note I have limited time period to finish Frank and Sergeant after that the area exploded.. You know this nice game FO2 or FO1?
That's why yoga ask for Boss info.
OK. Last battleground news:
Level 6. About half of area cleared. Mainly zone of battalions Skeletons and Wizard eye. Now I progress to west side.
-Wait, wait brave yoga. How about provisions in this looooooooooooooong battles.
-Dont worry, mate. My champions entered battle fully supplied with water and food. When these ones going to end yoga back to Screamers room and start massacre. Note that I have 5 x 8 = 40 pieces of food reliable laid in my boxes.
New important note:
-Yoga, I visited the room in question but is is empty.
Dont cry.
Very easy to start regeneration of beasts.
..Face door of the room. Nice.3 steps left. Very nice. Now 2 steps ahead. Excellent. Back to door.Ready. Open door and start massacre.
Water is no problem.
You are right about throwing some items against enemy. No more empty hand. I will throw shuricane, stones, knives, starts and like. Hmmm, but I am lazy to collect after battle. Yes, very lazy gamer I am.

He is only man who passed Wizardry 6!!!
WHAT? Kmonster was probably still in diapers when some of us ol'gamers finished that one.
Now yeah, maybe he was already out of diapers.... but "He is only man who passed Wizardry 6" ... come on, get serious, will ya?

Hmmm, my theory is correct. But....

Your final opponent is the Chaos Lord. Since the dungeon is currently being ruled by this entity, you will just have to imagine all of the powers of all of the enemies you have fought so far placed into one really tough opponent. Hmm...:mhh:. To put it bluntly, if you were to kidney punch a god, how do you think that would work out for you?
Shields, weapons and armor, whether they give you bonuses or not, are only a part of the game. You are going to have to start relying on magic, potions and your wits to survive now.
Relax and enjoy it. Although this game may be replayable to some, I didn't find it as alluring to finish a second time.

Hmm.. there is no much to do here.
I opened one door with RA key, but there is new closed door and I have no key. So I will direct my army to level 8 but before I will do usually preparation knowing that every new level is more and more hard..
I am careful leader. Because there are surprises around every corner. Usually they are bad.
It is a good news that there is a Rebirth alcove before stairs to level 7.
A friend of mine informed me that in level 9 is located Rats room similar to Screamers room (level 4).
But I do not know the situation with water. In this case I presume that no water at all and react accordingly.
So I will restore my stocks before entering lvl 8.
My principle here is to enter 200% equipped in unknown levels.
Because the game strikes back my every even little mistake.
Even in level 30 Doom2 I was more confident...
Y'now Doom 2 of course.
Maybe in this level 6 I have feeling I have a little control on the situation. For first time.

-Why, brave yoga?
Because:
1. I am totally disoriented.
The compass is going crazy.
Now Left is Right and North is South??
2. Chaotic teleports.
3. Someone or somewhat steals our Armour.
4. Hordes of Gnosts
5. Fireballs from nothing hit us mercilessly.
Actually nothing of above will stop the brave if my Compass is correct.
Now like an idiot I go up-down with no direction in my mind till merciless fireballs stopped my agony.:(

You kidding me, dear Dosraider.:3:
I am a very humble member of AB. You know me.
"Don't die!". Easy to tell, hard to do. Y'now this game?
Without of kind help of well respected Ohne Mitleid, poor yoga will be out in level 3..
But now, now is big problem howto..?
Well, I have some variants:
1. Step by step with lots of patience (I do have it) to clear all area from Ghosts, Skeletons, Mummies and then the only enemies will be f....d fireballs. Anyway they are not so big threads for me. This way I will find the good weapons and treasures.
I have time and provisions. I know and traced nice the road to level 4 - my stock.
2. Aggressively fast to find above stuff and the entrance to level 9. Here a question starts: Will I meet again fireballs in big central empty area?
3. Or to find the level 9 entrance only and later back here more powerful and bring revenge.
My hearth tell me to follow 1 way. ? Dunno..
Your suggestions?
Better way or decision?
Where are YOU dear Scatty, Kmonster, Capo and other DM gurus?

Fireballs: Now that you know that the dungeon is also your enemy, use extra caution. If you can, when you enter an area, look around for holes in the walls. Then determine which squares the fireballs would affect and try to avoid them if possible. For future reference, only one set of fireballs per wall can be active at any given time. You'll know why this is important...later...
Compass going crazy: There are areas you step on that spin the entire party in a different direction. Just face a direction you want to go and stick with it. Example: You are heading north, according to the compass. One step forward, now you are facing west. Turn back north and proceed. Very slow process, but if you consider this and the fireballs, maybe it's time to do some detailed mapping?
The thief (that annoying, giggling cartoon character): Remember when I said slime monster was the second most poorly drawn game enemy? Well, this dude it the first. It looks like a running raisin or small hunk of poo, if I remember correctly. The trick is to empty your hands and kill it with spells. I don't remember if it has a limit to the number of items it can carry/steal. In some areas, you will be able to trap it in a dead end. At that point, I would just beat it to death with punches and kicks instead of wasting spell mana. Don't get me wrong, it's clever in its intention. Steal your stuff, you give chase to get your stuff and end up getting lost in the process.
I think that covers it all. Nice to see you have opened your own channel.:smile2:

I follow the Bible rule: If one your cheek is beaten, offer another also.:smile2:
Simply I wanna play game here in AB, not alone in my garden as Shao-Lin monk. Well respected boss of AB Paco the Great allows me to play another games in one thread: Fallout 1 and FO2. I am preparing for FO3.
Well, to be fair I have fails also:
First is Ultima 8 Pagan. I am very tenacious player and started the game 7 times. And every time -failed?? Very strange: I reached Pit of Dead and tuto la finito.
Second my fail was saga of Twinsen Odyssey. Not my fail. So stupid save system I never seen in my gamer life. I give up after 2 days.
OK. All your kind and prompt directions are very carefully written then printed for future reference.
Especially is nice advise for nasty thief. So these ones were reason to disappear my armor and weapons from hands..I killed 2 of them but I think they have regeneration somewhere.
The situation:
After I was crying all the day, fallen in the floor I stand up and said:
"Cheer up, the brave. Stand up and fight."
The last 4 word are from Book of the books when God Krishna helped the young King before forth coming battle.
Maybe my God helped me but I did little progress:
-I found the both keys required - Solid and Skeleton ones.
- I found the good weapons Mace of Order, Staff of Manar and Ful bombs.
- I lured around thief, Mummies, Ghosts and opened door with above key. Then with my fireballs crashed 10-12 Skeletons and reached Central Stairway which directly connects level 7 to level 13.
Anyway I am unable to find down-stair to level 9 ?
:smile2:
Well, even the brave is tired. Moreover in small, sunny and lovely Bulgaria ( goto European map, find Black Sea and voila -west of Sea is Bulgaria ) is time to go bed.

This is where the game gets kind of crazy and confusing. I know that, to this day, it still bothers me in a small way that there was a lock I was never able to find the key for.
Teleporters: Did you know that some of them are invisible? The same goes for those plates on the floor. And I think you are at the point where almost everything regenerates.
One of the ways I was handling teleporters was to either set something I didn't really care if I lost, a stone perhaps, in the teleporter to see where it ended up. I figured this out after I cast a fireball into a blue teleporter only to have it come up from behind me and almost kill my entire party. Great idea! :p
Three games I have shrieked out loud while playing. Dungeon Master, Bioshock and Dead Space. And I don't scare easily. Ask my mirror.

When it comes to actual maps or how to get to a certain place, I really don't remember that game that well. Some things and enemies, traps and puzzles, I do remember. Locations based on level number? Pffft!

- There are more enemies that will supply you with future food. I think there are more regeneration rooms, but some of them are not only for the food providers. But I don't ever recall saying anything about how hard it was going to be to get the food.:oh:Q: My two champions hands's fingers are badly wounded.
Some way to heal them?I don't think sleep heals your wounds, only raises your health. I know you have healing potions, but they only work if the potion is strong enough or maybe if you drink enough of them. Probably not quantity. I think it was sort of like the difference between medicine you buy in the store and medicine you get prescribed by the doctor. I know there was also a magic item or two that healed, a wand or a staff or something.I guess You're teacher of some sort?

Thank You for direction concerning wounded hands of my champions.
BTW I changed the locations of first line warriors; Sonja and Hisssa. The last is some type of green lizard. But my strongest warrior.
Details:
My gang is before some closed gate with chest behind it. There is a lever. Using level the chest is dropping down to a chamber on next level.
There are two solutions of the quiz and I will try both..
I realized with distress that some staffs have limited period of usage. Rats! I thought they are for ever...
:headslap:
Progress:
I solved the closed door quiz. Easy.
I visited Rat's room and killed 2 rats at once. Very easy with good old slam door tactic.

Okay, use your head! Imagine if you were a big floating eye with a bunch of little baby eyes growing out the top of your head, floating around in a very dark dungeon, what would you be attracted to? Noise? Probably not. But if half of one side of your spherical body were an eye, I am sure if you noticed something you could see was different, you would be all over it really quick.
It's time to take some dance lessons. Dance lesson number one: get behind someone and try to move and turn so you are still right behind them, but they are never able to turn and face you. It's time to teach your party those dance steps. :monkey::dance:
And no, I don't dance (or very rarely, anyway), but I can be very quick on my feet if need be >hint<

Dear Ohne Mitleid, would You be so kind helping me again. I meet big problem, which can not overcome:
- I am at the stair down of lvl 11. I did some tests in these terrible Teleporters. More than 2 hours I tested and tested again Teleporters. .and at the last moment was beat to dead by some terrible blue octopus-like monster. The brave fights as a lion directly because the monster can not be stop by closed doors! It oozes under the doors and attack again.
But this is not so important problem. Hmmm..
For me is vital the answer - May I return to initial point at the beginning of level 11 because in this point is all my equipment and food and water. Moreover using nearby teleporter I am able to go to level 9 which provides water and drumsticks from Pain Rats.
Your prompt answer will be highly appreciated.

You can't slice it, you can't smash it, you could try bathing in it, but I don't think that would help. I actually tried using my wineskin on it when I played, hoping to suck it into the skin. If that worked, I don't know if I would drink it or not. Oh, if only you had the heat of the sun at your fingertips to dry it up...
I think this needs repeating: I know some stuff - objects, the fact that Gothmog was my favorite, etc., but when it comes to maps and such, no way! When you get to the point in your life when your underwear lasts longer than your memory, you'll understand.
I know two things for certain though. One is that you're in the point in the dungeon where everything is aimed at not allowing you to progress forward. The second thing is at least you are still in the easy part of the dungeon.
My first encounter where I shrieked was when I turned around to see a scorpion filling the screen. Nothing else was ever that big before. Also a disappoint, if I remember. Isn't it's attack noise the same as the Screaming mushroom bushes?
Hey, dear Ohne Mitleid I'm glad You're OK,
because in my last night dream I see how a big
yellow scorpion was after you!
But the brave find the weak point of Scorpion. Yes, I did.
- Really, the brave? Explain yourself.
OK. They are located (about 3-4 pcs) in north area of level 10, near the Central Stairway, after 2 transparent doors. Well, I discovered that my spell Poison cloud transfered through the door(s) and hit them. So with big patience one can kill all 3-4 scorpions being in save.
About yr advices for Water Elemental. Ha ha ha they are so odd! To drink this power monster? Actually I avoided battle with this one, but in a mean time I will try yr clever advices..:hihihi:
Some info about the brave army:

(sry, cant use Excel here)
Location: Entrance of lvl 12
My task is to reach lvl 13, then using Cental Stairway to enter lvl 9, to restock my food and water reserves and with your help and Good's will to crash down Lord Chaos.
:OK:
the humble brave
Bloody fighting with superior enemies:
some Black Flames, Oitus and Materializers.
Worst is still to come.
Good, support my right-hand!

:OK:
The name of worst is Animated Armour.
I have to kill a Oitu and 4 AA more to reach lvl 13!!
Wish me luck!
:whistling:
Important note for newbies:
- The Materializes can not be stop by closed door. They (as Water Elemental) oozes under door and attack!
Last minute communique from battleground:
-The victorious army of the brave just landed successfully level 13.
:whistling:
How many levels there are ?
How many levels there are ?
They are 14 levels, but strange, the boss Lord Chaos is located at lvl 13.
And to beat the boss the protagonist have revisit lvl 7 for an important Staff and back again.
Some more details about my level 12.
- Ok, yoga , how to pass this level?
Oh, it is not easy at all. Here is my tactic:
-Enemy - Oitu - I entered direct duel. Use Hardcleve (Berserk) and 6-8 spells Poison cloud.
- Animated Armor - Door tactic and Hardcleve
- Materializer - Vorpal blade at Stop points.
Recommendations:
1. Evaluate yr condition and avoid second tasks (some breads, apple and armor). You have no much time.
2. In the last hall you will find Materializer generator. Yoga lured around both monsters and very fast entered very last room with 4 moving traps. If you are lucky man there will be no chasing monsters after you. Anyway timing needed to pass this last barrier. If you failed, dont panic. There is field to back. I failed 7 times.
3. Well, you passed traps and grabbed Master key. Beware! Make step right and save. Do not start sleeping right now because yoga was surprised by monster who materializes from nothing and attacked. You may enter lvl 13 and sleep.
4. NEVER goto to left corridor and use last Skeleton key to open Central Stairway! This key is needed for final skeleton lock and will open the Central Stairway for yr raid to lvl 9 (level with water!)
Be very concentrated, careful and brave! And very, very, very fast because yr water reserves decreased rapidly.
To be fair I was very good equipped with water and do not have trouble.

:whistling:
PS: Caro Capo, I do my best.
OK.
I have access to level 7 through level 8. I visited again lvl 7 with 3 RA keys , opened the doors, took the Winged key and Firestaff.
I avoided battle with 5 strong Stone Golems and back to level 13, preparing for the last upcoming battle.
I have about 70-80 slices of food, 4 full waterskins + 10 full bottles with water, many Magical Green and Blue boxes, Poison bombs, magical staffs, stormring and like.
Water meters of champions are in their far right positions.
I have some small injures of the hand and leg fingers.
-Yoga, do you have a feeling of dread of bad Lord Chaos?
Hard question. Yes, I am brave warrior but not careless. So, I am feeling now let say little upset. But this is normal for every human being. Hope I will win.
Let the show begin!

Last minute communique from battleground:
-The victorious army of the brave just landed successfully level 14.
:whistling:
Very last minute news from battleground:
The red Dragon out.
About 100 Poison clouds and 15-20 Darkcleve (Berserk) hits. Hit and run. No face to face duel.
I know the right procedure to update Firestaff, but because the completion closes the Central Stairway I planned to kill first last 6 dragons and then again equipped to meet Lord.
...Fierce fighting with the first of 6 Dragons before mad Lord.
the brave:hihihi:
After many hours of fire bombardment the Supreme Commander of the brave army is pleased to inform that:
- The brave army eliminated the last one of 6 Dragons.
About 30-40 Fireballs and Poison clouds for every monster.
Use short passage for elimination.
Now the Lord of Chaos is alone against powerful yoga.
Meanwhile the brave army make passage between the line of Blake Flames for save maneuver.
Sadly in lovely BG is time to go to the bed.
The story cont..
:hihihi:
:3:
Starving to finish, I did lapse:
-The word "Dragon(s)" in the above notes to be read "Demon(s)".
Sorry, both words are similar and I was so tired.
Even the brave can do mistake.
:hihihi:
The army of brave is fighting with the final boss - the bad Lord.
We tried some battle techniques as usually.
The Lord is very quick and I am still unable to fluxcave the monster.
Still....
:hihihi:
Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
I did it and wipe out the Lord.
First I wanna thank all helping mates and especially to
DEAR MASTER OHNE MITLEID for his kind, sincere and prompt help!
God bless YOU!

Those games are no match for Yoga the great :kosta:, defeater of Chaos, who could beat them with eyes blindfolded and both arms tied behind the back. They can be a relaxing change.

Ha ha ha ha,
Kmonster, I appreciate your sense of humor!
Ha ha ha,
Nice kidding! I like good jesters because I am one of them..
You speak this for me, YOU, who 5 years before told stupid yoga to wear, not carry the weapons and armors
this way making dead of Lord Xeen peace of cake!
Ha ha ha
LOL:lol:
No, I will stop writing because.. ha ha ha
:bleh1:
OK. Now I am serious.
(This jolly pirate Kmonster :D)
.....
Well.
If You don't mind I will do some analysis of the game Dungeon master:
Difficulty the game is quite impossible. This is not Super Mario or War craft 1. There are 14 levels. The boss is located level 13.!?!
Technical - the game is very stable. I am using DosBox 0.74 and Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit OS. No lagging, no problems. I am using 1.5GB Ram and nice video card. My monitor is 22 inches. I am using mouse for game play, no keyboard.
Initial setting 1,2,1. You will understand what I mean when starting the game.
Champions completion First line fighter and ninja, second line wizard and priest.
Water and food This is vital components of the game and careless gamer soon will be defeated. Try to withstand to level 4 and find Screamers room. CLOSE the door before the room or violet worms will attack you. Start massacre of the poor Screamers. This room was my main stock for food. I used to hit with 4 members Fireballs and then weapons or door slam way. During the game I completed giant logistic operation with 9 boxes X 7 foods = 63 pcs foods. I think is easier to backtrack to level 4 instead of bloody fighting with strong Pain Rats for food at level 9. Water: Fill your 4 water-skins (1 water-skin = 3 drinks) immediately when see water fountain. I used empty glass bottles also. Note that some heroes used more water than others.
Weapon and armor The best weapons are Delta and Darkcleave. Do not forget Vorpal blades the only weapon against Non material opponents. Armor use the armor from higher level.
Tactic because the protagonist is pressed non stop by rapidly decreased food and water s(he) have to be very fast in mind and action. Do not be greedy for every chest. Do not waste your valuable time for some more apple or bread. Do not collect every stuff you just find. The only important thing is a ordinary bow and some golden coins to keep, when... Larger part of gems are useless. Concentrate on the main task (usually some keys) only and wisely process with enemies. Avoid battles with Water Elemental and Stone Golems. You will waste too much time and resources for nothing. Lure when meet dangerous Materializers. Keep in mind that many monster have Re generators! Be very, very concentrated, careful and brave, not careless. Read your breakthrough 3-5 levels forward to be prepared for upcoming battles and evaluate the situation. Foreseen the game behavior. Be very, very fast with the mouse. Avoid direct duel when possible. I used spells Fireball and Poison cloud non stop. Auto your strikes.
--But, yoga, I was defeated.. Do not cry. There are 3-4 Altars of Vi, where you may resurrect the dead champion(s). Just put his bones in altar. I used them only one time in the beginning. Do not forget very good and true slam door tactic!
Support http://dmweb.free.fr (http://dmweb.free.fr/). Nice maps and walk through. I have so happy to find dear and well respected Master Ohne Mitleid, who directed me during my adventure. Well, in the last levels I printed the maps, then with red pens I make markers where and what monsters will await me. Plan your operation like Napoleon. Knowledge is sure advance.
Tricks no many. Do not hurry to update your Firestaff before you finished 6 Demons and one Black Flame. This way you will closed the Central Stairway. No, first out the Demons, prepare more food and water and then upgrade your Staff. BTW, if you toss your staff on the place after the door then mentioned Stairway does not close. I did it once but later failed.
Remarks: No music at all. Only one save slot. Remember that the file Dmsave.bak (in your DM directory is save moment before present one). I used the next way: When I met dilemma or strong enemy I stop the game at nearby save point (click on a hero, then click on diskette symbol), then Alt+Tab, leave the game, but not really, find the DM game directory, open it and copy both files Dmsave.dat and Dmsave.bak. So the gamer will have 4 save moments. Handy!
My impression This is the best RPG in my life. I enjoyed playing this remarkable game. For me, gamer, who do not know Dungeon Master is not praiseworthy. So?
Easy. DL DM and start!
:D
Battle tactic:
Even the first line fighter and ninja are not original spell casters try their rising spell casting ability after level 3 and they soon will be valuable casting helpers.
Hmm.. I will politely do not agree with some suggestion that is a good idea to change first line fighters with second line casters to fight and increase their fighting abilities. No, I do not used same tactic.
- But yoga, if they (second line members) are attacked from behind?
Yoga not allows similar action during all game. I carefully advanced in semi dark corridors, not hurry like Mortal Combat warriors. In this case, if any, I turn back like a tiger and meet danger with same front strong heroes.
My humble opinion is that all game play is based mainly on spell casting. Not Doom 2-like shooting. So train magic martial skills.
Final battle with Lord Chaos:
The Lord is very strong...and... a little stupid. Yes. He may overcome my party with one fire hit only. But he may stay near you without reaction. Not long.
--Yoga, problem! The Lord is before me and closes the road ahead?
-Do not panic. Face the lord fast with bare hand and use 3-4 times option War cry. He will move aside.
The only place to kill this monster is small room North with 2 doors. Beware! There is a Demon inside. Kill it as you killed another 5 ones (hiding in short corridor and cast Fireballs or Poison cloud). Now enter this room and prepare. If you close both doors you may even sleep. Some "specialists" said that this action will invoke monster. I did it and no one interrupt my sleep. Ready? OK. Let start. Open one door (I opened west door). Leave the room and use your Firestaff option Invoke. Place out all your weapon, food and like to be not overweight because your speed is vital. You have to be with all armors, bare hand, just Firestaff in one hero's hand. Soon Lord will approached this room. Be fast as snake. Enter the room and prepare for very fast maneuvers. Your task is to pawl poor lord to corner and very fast to use 2 times Staff Fluxcage on it. Lord is very quick. Doing that you have to use option Fuse and..voila!!! Yes, You win.
-How long time you did it, yoga?
About 3-4 hours. And 2 of my champions were dead. Never mind. I am gamer with big patience. (I shot the sheriff - sry not sheriff:D but Fallout boss machine -like with 63 rifle shoots).
Last note: Maybe I am crazy, but after 12 level my compass is crazy. In normal places it shows correct North and South and wrong West and East. Maybe it is virused.
I am serious now.
:3:
OK, my short addition is one page already.
Nice game I recommend You, Caro Capo.
Do not worry, I will be with You through all the game. Just after corner and will help from all my hearth.
:D

This sentence in the review makes no sense at all:
The 3D first person perspective was still rather unheard of in those days, as most games were side- or topview.
Whereas the vast majority of famous RPGs that came before was in 1st person; Wizardry, Might and Magic, The Bard's Tale, even friggin' Ultima (in the dungeons).

True, but when you compare Dungeon Master to those other games, the old titles were pretty much your standard dungeon crawls where you go around, kill things and find loot in a generic labyrinths (Feel free to correct me, as its been a while since I've played any of those), while Dungeon Master offered interesting puzzles and more interactivity which would later be seen in likes of Ultima Underworld. I think the reviewer was trying to say that or meant it.
Of course Im probably completely wrong and he just got caught up in nostalgia. Then again, he was only writing a review, not a well-research HG101 article.

I'm not implying that one should do extensive research to write a review, but if you make a statement about a game's position in the greater context, you should actually know at least something about that context.
It's not like any of the series I listed are obscure; those were literally the four most famous RPG series before Dungeon Master. In fact, it's the exclusively top-down view RPGs that are kind of obscure and forgotten (Dunjonquest, Phantasie).

Now i started Skyrim but this game hmmm...

I think that the very modern games loose the charisma of RPG.
Yes, nice graphic, sound, music but there is no soul.
Humble opinion. No base for dispute.

Both games DL but they have very good Copy protection..

Concerning our old competition about who is played more games i give up.
Capo - more than 200 games finished.
yoga - less that 100 games finished (to be fair 90)
Ready to post the names of these games.
Maybe Caro Capo is N 1 in the game world and humble yoga is N 99.
Caro Capo, You very clever:
1. You told me - yoga, BAK is shit. True/false. -True
2. You told me - yoga, Skyrim is nothing without mods. True/false -True

Well, well, now i am serious.
I want to play Chaos strikes back.
I DL the game but can not start the game.
Details:
I am choosing the 4 champions but then i am unable to
compose and start the game from Utility floppy disk!?
Gladly i have Floppy disk device.
Maybe some soul with good hearth will support poor yoga?

Note:
Dear Mod, i know the rules, i know that have to start new
thread but i do not want to start thread for CSB and then fall to
start game.
Thank You.
:whistling:
Mates,
i started the game Chaos Strikes Back and want to share some thoughts about the game.
CSB may started as:
- new start
- using save file from Dungeon Master.
The game is clone of DM.
I failed in my attempt to use save file from DM, namely DMsave
I started with new champions.
I played the game 100 days to find out that it is terrible hard game.
I think DM is a hard game, i think DM 2 is more hard game but CSB is - impossible.
Can You imagine after 100 days period i just killed the Red Dragon only!
This is about 4-5% of whole game.
Price: Wounded, with small resources of food and water.
More dangerous battles wait me.
The reason: I think i am not so bad RPG player. But real RPG follow the principle- step by step build your champions, gradually increasing yr experience and battle strategy.
No such situation with CSB: Constant absence of food and water make me to cry and cry.
No, Caro Capo i do not complain of CSB, just share it.
Maybe some one of AB know and played this game?

Hello All,
I originally played Dungeon Master on the Amiga 500 and it is a ground breaking game. The game mechanics, graphics and sound effects were amazing.
I recently stumbled on a game called Dungeon Guild which is a science fiction based, colonial marine rogue like dungeon master type game. It was written by a couple guys in their spare time and is really challenging! Once you choose your character, you are transported to the planet surface and begin your mission. There is a time component, mini games, secret areas, scoring, it is over he top and i don't want to spoil it for you.
Suffice to say, if you enjoy EOB and Dungeon Master type games, check out Dungeon Guild. It is free to play. The game is over at dungeontreasure dot com
All the best,
Commander Brody
