Hey guys, I just downloaded Firefight from HOTU, an' its packed with a .ARJ file and files .A01- .A27
Seems similiar to a .ACE file, but I dunno what program to use to unpack them. Any suggestions on free spyware-free programs to unpack ARJ files?

I haven't encountered arj files for a long time now but my guess is that Winrar has no problem.

If you can't manage to unpack them send me the files along with ARJ.exe and I'll give you the exact command to unpack all those files at once.
I remember using ARJ all the time on my old 486. :D

Used it on my 486 also..
Either WinRAR or PowerArchiver should solve those problems.

ARJ software (http://www.arjsoftware.com/files.htm)
after you download and install it, you will have to use a command (in a DOS window  ) like this:
c:\arj\arj.exe x c:\games\firefight.arj /v
c:\arj and c:\games\ represent the folders where the arj and the game are supposed to be located. the /v switch will allow you to prossess multiple files (a01, etc.) and when it jumps from the arj file to the following, it will prompt you if you want to proceed; if you type "y", it will prompt you the same everytime it jumps to the next volume, but if you type "a" it will process all volumes from there.
i hope this helps you :ok:

if i remeber it correctly from my "old days" when i used to use it, the -x extracts the files with full path, which means that if there are compressed files inside folders, those folders will be created and the files extracted inside them. if you use the -e, it will extract all files to the same folder. you can try both ways and see what happens :max:

Thanks for all the help guys! Heheh, im glad I could give you guys some nostalja there by mentioning the .arj files. It worked. WinRAR didn't recognise it when I tried to run it just from the arj file, so when i saw you mentioned WinRAR, I decided to go in and open them manually. It worked

Maybe you should change the filetype association for ARJ to associate it permamanetly with WinRar?
