Looking For An Old Game

i can't remember the name of an old game ...

in the game u get "kidnapped" and u travel in and alternate? other? gallaxy and you task is to get back ... or somthing like this .. its a loooong time since i played this game :P ..

u have to grow a civilisation to make them intelligent enought to help u to complete your ship with the missing parts to get back home .....

u can travel forward and back in time .... and sometimes u need to fight against your alter ego ...

u can beam down some key inventions to your civilisation if they are inteligent enought...

hmm i cant remember more .. i think ....

did it have about three races, a fourth you fought and fly-by's of suns to recharge your batteries?
