Eh... Here we go again:

all u need is to have ur father-daughter relations = 95+. AND to nurse her through illness AT LEAST ONCE. Does the trick every time...

Dunno nothing 'bout morality and faith. Guess it isn't important
Ahhh... there's my problem... my daugther never get's sick. I guess it's the diet meal for the girl in the first couple of months. :P

Now... I heard that your daughter can't be that extraordinary... can't be a good fighter or whatever. Is that bunk? Can she be anything (minus social endings) and still marry dad?

Thanks for the info, regardless.

Now that's one very FUNNY part but, nonetheless, very much thought upon.

The limitations that make ur daughter "unmarriable" to father
are as follows:

1. ANY social ending (countess, concubine, e.t.c)
2. "religious" endings (Nun and Archbishop)
3. "far and away" endings (mercenary, for instance)
4. "darkside" endings (bandit and so on)
5. Warrior Hero ending kills the daughter-father marriage event, but the Magic Hero ending does not. I can't really understand why but I rechecked this 3 times.

As for PM3, PM4 and others, I actually AM studying Japaneese at the moment with the sole purpose to be able to play them. Sad story... :tai:

Some foes have magic resistance and it's better to hit them with ordinary attack.
Adventuring is also a much better way to get money than jobs. Just as a sidenote. :)

Sorry, I'm new with this game. My daughter is a skilled magician.
But she just has 5 Mana. Does somebody know how to raise it?

Mana? In Princess Maker? As far as I know, you have magical skill, attack and defence. You can practise those in Magic School.

And then there's mana, yes. You spend it to cast spells.

Though I don't think it was called Mana, maybe it was MP.

Try raising your intelligence. I think MP corresponds directly to Intelligence, just as HP corresponds to constitution.

I think that strengh has something to do with the HP and the magic defence, skill or attack change the MP.
No. HP is Constitution, MP is Intelligence.

Agree on HP but i am sure that magic lessons give you some MP well now 80% sure.

No, they don't, any more than Fighting class improves HP. MP is straight-equal to Int.

Alright, I've read them all. And after reading them all, I, the Magekind, am going to die.

Yes, that's right. When I am finished with this post, what's-'is, 5th Hossman's-a gonna kill me.

Because I'm going to start out with everybody's favorite: How do I download the game?
...
...
...

Roit. So now we've done some random klikking, we've found - Oh, my patron deity, a .ZIP file called PM2! Agh! Someone get some blood pressure meds. I'm gonna pop.

Yesh.

Now, we have PM2. Now I can't get it to run. We are not going to state the fact that it ran excellently under WinXP, because like all other nOObs, I don't know what an executable file is, remember? I just use .lnk files. Oh, right. They don't know what those are either. Desktop icons. There. Now we're speaking the same language. Almost. I need to work on misspelling things though.

Okay, so I guess I need to find the executable file. That works. It says something like "PM2" on it. and it just shows this window-thingy.

But that's not good enough. I have to get DOSBox. How do I do that, after I've been using it to play OMF2097 for hours on end, in an effort to write a fanfic about OMF? Oh, right, I get it. You have to, like... run the program or something. Yyyeeaahh....

So, we're DOSBoxing happily. A left hook, a quick right jab, step back and come in for... what? Oh, right. "Mount c [your-directory-list-in-eight-letter-steps-here]"

I think I get that. Okay, so now we're playing PM2, and I CHEATED. Sue me. I shouldn't have. I regret it thoroughly. Venus didn't like it anyway. Meh, who cares about the goddess of love? Not me, that's for sure. I've got a fairly good Magic Performer who married an intelligent wizard. Now we play for reals.

A little about myself. I hate simulations. I can't drive, I can't play football, soccer, whatever-it-was-you-were-going-to-suggest-ball. I used to play C&C, but I've lost my taste for that. Now we play Red Faction, UT, Soldier of Fortune, and the like. We also play Tekken and OMF. OMF because it's so freakin' awesome.

Back to PM2. I'm a twisted weirdo. Not a sicko, I like to think I'm fairly normal that way. I tend to play as females when I have the option, but partly because all the gamers around here are guys and nine out of eight of them are playing male characters; so I be different. I also like to be in the action, not pointing-and-clicking the action. So when I downloaded PM2... it might have been the dirty old man thing. But not quite in that way. ...

All in all I'm very pleased with the Game. I regret how Aueniteri(there's a mouthful for you!) turned out, but I swear I will do better with Niamh, who's a fighter by nature. Let's see you get that girl into "high society".

Also, anybody here do anime? Apparently, GAINAX is also the publishers of Petite Princess Yucie, so all you who're dying to play the other games, satisfy yourself by renting the anime DVDs. And please, oh please do not start asking where to get them. I am not going to say "Netflix" once. Okay, maybe not more than once.

Also, I laugh at all the internet scum so eagerly trying to play this game, obviously because they heard about the cheat where you can get the girl naked. Of course, they're going to keep her at 10.

This is for all the people having problems with the "Unable to locate file LIBINDEX.DIR" system error.

I'm only using win98se so don't ask me about XP or DOSBOX or anything like that.

Go to what ever file you extracted the game files to, look for some things named Pm2 (there are more than one), right click and go to Properties and find the one that is

Type: Shortcut to MS-DOS program
MS-DOS name: PM2.PIF

If it helps, for me it had the icon of the paper with the win symbol on it and in the lower left it has the square with the arrow just like with the shortcuts on your desktop.

anyway... when you've found it go to the Program tab and change the Cmd line: to where ever you have PM2.EXE

For example: Cmd line: C:\somefilename\pm2\PM2.EXE

Now click the "Advanced..." button, uncheck the "MS-DOS mode" box.

Click OK, Apply or OK or whatever else and whoop-de-fricken'-doo, now that icon is your shortcut to play Princess Maker 2 in windoze although without sound. Now raise your digi-pet-daughter and please, for the sake of the greater good, don't have real children.

Joo har velkomm.

Personally, I find the game to be much more interesting without the cheat, as was proved with Niamh. She ended up as a martial arts instructor, who failed because of her inability to communicate with others. I will also note that she made a horrid mother, but an excellent wife. It's the statistics they don't show you that will matter the most in the end.

She was a powerful warrioress, fairly intelligent, but it's practically impossible to keep both refinement and strength at high levels. The same goes for constitution and charisma, although later in the game that works itself out. (Intentionally fails to say "Dance Classes" out loud.)

I found the fairies in the lake, but haven't found them in the forest. Any tips?

Also, sound(music) hasn't yet worked for me, any way I go about it. I have yet to try D-Fend, so if that works for me, I'll get back with you. If it doesn't... it isn't your problem anyway.

faireis in forest: under the clock and under the medium tree of the area with the banner about dragons. You need to be sensitive to see them. In the forest is also an elf under in the big tree and a bandit inside the circle of rocks near the exit area.

Constitution can be earned by a robust diet or you can get 50 for each egg. Refinement comes from protocol lessons. Also Lucifer in the desert map can change some faith for anything that you need. :ok:

The Fifth Horseman

Also, sound(music) hasn't yet worked for me, any way I go about it. Have you tried the game's own sound configuration? That's the usual problem, since many people (sometimes even those who should know better about it) forget that setting the emulated soundcard in DosBox does not automatically set it for the games.
First, I'd suggest you try and change the soundcard emulation to Sound Blaster Pro 2 (from the default Sound Blaster 16).
Second, run the game's setup program (it's a separate executable in the game directory) and configure it to use Sound Blaster, IRQ 5 DMA 1 220 h.
Has that worked?

Oh, and as for Constitution, IIRC it can be raised by some of the jobs... farm and lumbering, I think. Don't remember clearly, since it's been a year and a half since I last played the game.

Well I can't say I didn;t enjoy this game, it really is time-devouring and most important thing, replayalable. I like replayable games... But I still don;t know how to raise communication.

Whats up people. Ive played this game quite a few times and for some reason the first time i played i managed to get her to become queen everytime after that no dice LOL

Anyhow as for her marrying her father or youself which ever you prefer alot of people consider it sick (trust me im not all for the idea myself) but if you think about it they arent related in any way other then one of the goddess'/gods saying "Here take this kid"

As for one of my favorite endings would have to be the first one i had when she become queen and then she didnt get married because no body shared her beliefs or something of that nature.....not a very long monarcy eh? ^_^

That's cool!
My first daughter became a street performer. I diden't know why she became a street performer bacause she had 100 in all magic skils so I tried again. The second one was a stret magician. A little improovment.
Then I found out that she also needs reputation.
My third one bacame a good general and maried the prince.
The last one became court magician and maried Dragonboy.

I wonder whether it's actually obtainable somewhere. It would be great if it could be posted up here. I've been looking around myself, but all I came up with was on p2p and those are probably asian versions. Such a pity they didn;t release it in English. It;s a very absorbing game.A guaranteed time killer. Up till now I have managed to turn her into an artist, a princess writer, a princess general, "a woman of light manners", an adventurer and a martial arts teacher (not quite succesful because of low conversational skills).

Well, I just decided to pop in here and ask a question, just to see if anyone could be of help, as this isn't a popular game and it's extremely difficult to find good help for it...

Is it possible for the daughter to become a Ruling Queen and marry the butler/ father/ dragon youth? I've tried it a numerous amount of times, but in the end, she never gets married at all. >.< Her morals are high and she has a relationship with the chosen person of 100. It's making me rip my hair out!

Hahahah very fun game!My first daughter became a martial arts teacher, but she was unsuccesful cuz she wasn´t very communicative; she married an intelligent knight and wans´t a good mother, again cuz she didn´t had enough skill... :whistling: ...not sooooo bad, considering that it was my first time playing :wallbash: ...

This game is really semi-hentai game, but there´s nothing to worry about this, kids...I guess... :sneaky:

Anyway, does anyone knows if the undress item you can buy at Mad Eddy´s have any use???That´s very cruel, leaving the poor girl with no clothes.....

Gosh, I'm addicted!! Have played this game 3 times so far and got, in order: a soldier who became captain of forest patrol, married to a wizard; second one went into domestic training and married a wizard (hmm I can't really remember who she married), and last one became a royal concubine! I forgot to visit the prince a few times, and I do wonder now if I'd visited him every single time she'd have married him instead. The dragon youth and some older fella did come proposing but I sent them all away. She kept saying she wanted to marry me though. :P

Played the last one using the cheat, though, cos' I was finding it really hard to earn money to raise her stats. With an infinite resource of cash, I was able to max out most of her stats. Or at least those associated with dancing, magic and combat.

I spent a really long time completing my third game though, because, yes, I think it was the cheat - my game hung 3 times! And I'd had to start all over again because I'd forgotten to save. Urgh. And I tried playing with a B blood type girl but she was so unstable (being a Gemini as well and having high sensitivity to start with), she kept running away! Even IF I brought her on vacations and let her go out to town with money and all that. Infuriating. Anyway, I kept the birthdate but changed her blood type to O and I didn't have such problems anymore.

One good tip I learnt with regard to using the cheat - get all the items and money you need from Mad Eddy first, save, and then start the game without using the cheat again. This way, the buggy cheat doesn't affect you and you still get everything you need!

I didn't realise that it was the perfume that brought all those proposals though!

And I like to keep my girl decently dressed, because I find it's quite disturbing to put her in those skimy outfits (or naked!)! I always seem to get girls who want to be taller/have bigger boobs/have a nicer figure. LOL.

Greetings! I just love this site and the games it offers, esp. PM2.

My question regards the few gaps in the endings. I'm wondering if there is ANY way to fix those. It seems that some .txt files are missing but the question is how to add them to the compressed Data. I am already desperate that every fan-translation of the other PM games usually stops in its tracks (Except the PM1 one) but I wonder, if huge Morrowind Mods can be created and translated etc. etc. why not PM? Any thoughts?

Are you running the game through Dosbox, or directly in Windows?

1. Using the default sound settings in Dosbox I got sound (though every few minutes there would be a minor glitch).
2. As for the non-full screen setting: this can also be done by using Dosbox though I don't remember the command or hotkey from the top of my head, I hope someone else will remember :)

Use DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net).
You can download it here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1).

If you have any problems with it, try having a look at the official FAQ (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php) on the DosBox site.
Basic Setup and Installation (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Basic+Setup+and+Installation+of+Dos Box)
Command Line (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=CommandLine)
Z instead of C at the command prompt (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=FAQ%2FI+have+got+a+Z)
Internal Programs (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Internal+Programs) (important, especially MOUNT)
Most of the stuff in there is not really needed, but you would do best to familiarize yourself with the specific topics I linked to.
The mounting of your DosBox games directory, switching the promt to the emulated C: drive and clearing the screen from previous commands can all be executed from the [autoexec] section of dosbox.conf (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=dosbox.conf), so you won't have to re-type them every time round.
Frontend programs (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=DOSBoxFrontends) can help running DosBox with varying configurations for different games.

2. Is there any way to make the game non-full screen? The text is cut off...[/b]
Use DosBox, it can be ran in a window - but also you can adjust the fullscreen mode to suit your preferences. For this purpose, enter dosbox conf and set the following: fullscreen=true, fullfixed=true, fullresolution=640x480.

Screenshots? I've edited the PM2.CNF file with the Camera=1 $ Press F5 thing, but I have no idea how to convert the files to normal .jpgs. They are all .B1, .G1, or .R1, which are filetypes I know nothing about. Dur?

I suppose I'll try to DosBox thinger so that the game isn't full screen and so I can click over to my graphics editor...But I still want to know if there's a way to convert the other file types, just for the sake of knowing...

There's also an attempted rape scene in the game iirc, you can access it by adventuring and fighting a reputable bandit... losing results in the scene. It's pretty good because Cube wails on everyone and saves her behind...

Once again, Gamefaqs has all the details and information regarding the game should you require more knowledge of everything that you can access. Personally I never adventure, until late in the game if at all...

How can my girl earn money from works? My girl worked as a babysitter and at the inn and restaurant, but she sucked at the works and could never earned any money. She could only earn money from working at the church. I believe there must be some requirements (stat-wise) for her to earn money from those works. What are the requirements? What are the other ways to get money, a lot and fast?
[/b]
here's the requirements (remember, the less the stress the better):
housework: nothing
church: strengh*
babysitting: strengh
restoraunt: cooking skill
inn: sensitivity
farm: strengh, constitution
lumberjack:**
salon: art
masonry: constitution, strengh
tutor: intelligence, morals
inn:**
graveyard: no sensitivity, fighter and/or magic reputation
sleazy bar: charisma*
cabaret:**
adventure: fighting and/or magic reputation, good weapon and armor

adventure is best way, otherwise start doing salon or masonry and if you're lucky, work at graveyard, if grave robber's come's and you beat them, you could get about 2300$.

requirement's for harvest festival:
fighting contest: fighting and/or magic reputation
art festival: picture (could be drawn at art lesson's) with much art
cooking festival: cooking skill, sensitivity
dance contest:** go to dance lessons to win dance contest

legend: ** i don't know, * i'm not sure.

I am honestly addicted to PM2. I can finish it in about three or four hours of nonstop play - I haven't been keeping track of the endings I've achieved, but I do remember that my 'daughter' has ended up as a knight, a prostitute, a dancer, a nun, and a bandit. She's also married the prince at least once. It's definitely a good way to waste a few hours.

Most of the games on Abandonia do not require installing. They may need configuring to suit your system, though.

Remember to use DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net) to run theis game (you need to use it in order to have sound). You can download it here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1).

Ah I love how they just throw random English on the beginning to taunt all us poor Americans who will never be able to play the game because they'll never translate it into English and sell it in the other countries. You are a lucky person being able to read Japanese...or being able to tolerate not understanding anything the game says. :) They just need to understand that there really is a good market over here for those kinds of games now.

So i need to learn japanese. It isnt just another language, its another alphabet. Plus when we study frech, italian, romanian or even german, there are points in common, similar sintaxis and grammar. So in few months with a good dictionary and some dedication you can be reading any of them. But jap is just too different, its like the senseless writting of a 4 ages kid.

Ok, here is my question. I heard that you can become someone's mistress while she's still under 18 and he'll pay her every month for her "services." I thought this would be fun, so I put my girl with already 800+ Charisma in the sleazy bars and cabaret when she was 16. By the time she became 17, yes, she became someone's mistress.
Then, in May of her last year (Her birthday was in October, so 7 months before she grew up), after working in the cabaret, some young guy approached her and asked if she wanted to go to dinner. She said yes, and it said they went off together or something, and then... you know those little icons that have like, her weapon, her armor, if she's sick and if she's delinquent? There's one more, and it's on the far right, and after she went to dinner with this guy, it turned into a heart and said "love."
This icon stayed until the start of September (her second to last month).
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, getting the little heart.
And also, if it has, has it lasted anyone to the day where she did grow up, and if so, does it affect her marraige at all?

All right. I've babbled long enough, me thinks. :) Hope I answered someone's question, and maybe someone has an answer for one of my own. :)

So, I recently came across information that says one can turn on screen capture capabilities. Thing is, it does not write them to a common (or known by me) format.

I did use a hex editor and a webpage on the BMP format, to add a BMP header to the *A.B1, *A.G1, and *A.R1 files (the E1 files are mostly null with some non-null bytes strewn through out. No idea what kind of info might be in here.) The *B.?1 are all 7kb so too small to be a screenshot, and not sure what kind of info per channel it could be, yet.

Playing around with the height, width, and color depth bytes of the BMP header (and copying in a color table from a 8-bit grayscale BMP) has lead me to actually see an image. So I am confident that each file is just a raw dump with nothing extra (ie palette info, hieght, width info, etc.). I am guessing that this feature was just to help debug (?) and so the programmers knew what the palette was, what the size is (seems to be based on 320 by 200, but I'll get to that) etc so they just needed the raw data and their program took care of displaying it.

At 320 by 200, 4bit color (16 colors) I can see 2 side by side pics. Changing it to 160 by 400 makes it one image wide (but since the two lines are light and dark it looks interleaved) and has it look all squished (160 by 400 is too narrow and long looking). using Gimp to then scale to 320 by 200 makes it look nice. I suspect though, that each line is first the odd pixels then the even pixels (or vice versa) and the gimp's scaling was more of a lucky break (things getting blurred hiding the disrepencies). I might try, another time, just having gimp keep just the odd lines or even (at the 160 width) and play with that a bit. I been using the 320, 2 image side by side, to try to recompose the 3 bitmaps into a colored picture (instead of 3 greyscales that probably represent red, blue, and green) but the pictures don't look well colored (or just as nice in general as the in-game screens). I might need to play around with learning to program (Hmm, maybe I can find an old C++ compiler to run on dos-box) so I can try playing with that odd / even pixel idea to see if that helps resolution (basically a custom viewer where I can tweak on the fly height, width, non-sequential reading, etc). Also, I'll need to find or figure out the palette info for these files, maybe the main program has it built in, but that'll be alot of work. (Remember, that's 16 colors per channel, or 12bits total. Not exactly high-color but I don't thinkl there was very many 15/16 bit colors used in the early 90's. So, 4bit per channel instead of 8 probably does the job for storing a vga display. I think, not sure, that the game was 320 by 200, and maybe 256 colors? more? At best it would be 640 by 480 but that is too big for these files unless teh screen capture function lowered the resolution upon capture. Not like it's an official feature.)

Now, this is just an excersize for me, cause I find it a pleasing challenge to puzzle out. After all, Dos-box does have its own screen capture feature, so this is not really necessary if I really cared about getting a screen cap. I just notice people mentioning it's strange format and I wonder how much of it could be figured out with some plugging about. I was wondering if anyone else has looked into this and what you might have found. (Also, it's a pleasant diversion from using my hex editor to figure out how to hack the save games. Which is a fun puzzle in its own right.) But any helpful info would be nice. Color Tables, viewers, format specs, etc can be very useful.

I also wonder if anyone is working on things like Total Conversion (or at least having fun hacking the items, fashion, school, work, etc.) I know the LBX files are basically archives, and I can unpack them if I wanted, but the txt files are not ascii / plain text (must be in some format specific to the game, I'd try unicode but I don't know if it was around back then) and the pt1 files are confusing. I am guessing, regardless if it was a graphic, a music, or what, it all got called pt1 and the game engine knows which is which and how to read them, but I'm not going to go through all of them just to see if they could be image or sound raw data. Also, they could be compressed with RLE or LZW or something.) So, anyone else have luck figuring out how to work with all of that game data?

Thanks, and I hope none of this is too annoying to read.

Me again. Played around some more. The 'B' files are image data. I turned them into BMP and they fit nicely after the 'A' file (cutting and pasting in Paint), so the image is broken up into 2 A/B files (as well as the 4 B1/E1/G1/R1 files).

I use the Hex Editor to just paste the B onto the end of A and reset the height vaule to 240 and it comes out nice. The E1 files are also images (mostly black in my first test example) when I do the same to them. So the screen is broken into 4 parts, each 4 bits(?). Maybe its a hi-color (15/16bit) representation of the screen, and each file is suppose to be packed into it's repsective bits? No idea.

Hope my little experiments is amusing to you, hate to waste space here if no one is interested in the screen capture files this game makes. I might take a capture of a different screen to see if the E1 files are still mostly black ... could be a clue, like it represents the most significant values for 16 bit color data, maybe?

For the adventurous type, I'll paste below the BMP file header with the color table for 16 colors. The Red Green and Blue values are equal in the table so it makes gray. Once I figure out what the proper palette could be, I could change that later. Just stick the header up front, then the content of the A file then the B file for each B1, E1, G1, R1. That is for XX00000A.B1 and XX00000B.B1 you need to make 1 file with a bmp header and the 2 concatenated. Repeat for XX00000A.G1, XX00000B.G1, etc etc until all of the XX00000? are processed. Also, BMP are funny in that the image is stored upside down in it normally, so a right side up image like this one will display upside down. Just flip it in an image editor or photo editing program. Also, you should get 2 side by side images. I suspect the even and odd fields for each line are seperate adn non-sequential (ie all odd pixels for the line, followed by all the even pixels). Anyone know of a common graphic format that does this?

I still wonder how the 4 files encode the color information. Any ideas?

Okay, here's the hex code for displaying the A + B raw data as a grayscale bmp. This needs to be the very first thing in your file (as far as I know). (If you don't put the B after the A, then change the first F0 into C8 to display the A file alone or 28 to display the B file alone.) If this seems confusing, just play around with it. Also note, this is displayed Little Endian, so you should have your hex editor in little endian mode.

Ahh, tired of me yet? I recently examineded a screen capture from Dos-Box (Ctrl-F5). It was 640 by 480 and 16 colors. The data in each of the files (When A and B are chained together) is enough for 640 by 480 at 1bit color depth. The 4 files would be enough to reconstitute 16 colors if 1bit from each are used to make the 4bits for the 16 colors (in other words, 4 bitplanes of data.) Maybe you all knew that already. Also, from looking at the dos-box screen capture, I know what the 16 diffferent colors are, now.

So, I guess all that is left is for me to learn enough c programing to make a little utility to reshuffle the bits back together again, and write a more common image file. It would be nice to know which bits originally went where, and the original ordering of the colors, but since combining them in any fashion will make 16 unique numbers, I just might at first make a greyscale version. Then comparing to an identical dos-box capture, figure out which number should be which color and make a color table that works. (in other words, being willing enough to make a new color map, I should not be hindered by not knowing any original details. Doing one thing with one (which bit where) is offset by compensating with another (changing the colormap)). Figureing that out, will be easy. Writing a program to automate the process, well I don't know if I can. But I am willing to share what I find. I'm thinking of using EBGR as the order of bits in the nibble (most significant bit being E). Right now, all I'm going to do is change the bmp header to make it 640 by 480 by 1bit, and have the 2 colors in the colortable be black (00 00 00) and some kind of grey (for the R file (10 10 10), G(20 20 20), B(40 40 40), and E(80 80 80)) so that I can use gimp to put them all as layers in an RGB mode image with addition (all layers add up). Then convert that image to 16 color indexed, and save as a bmp, just to see what kind of image I get, and have something to try to map the 16 colors to. Probably will work, but I don't think its what most people want to do by hand each time they take a screen capture (though dos-box has a nice screen capture so this is all moot anyways, but a fun project.)

Anyone try to figure out how to access the data files, like the music, to play with? Not unlike how people like to edit their Quake data and change things up in the game.

anonymous
07-08-2007, 05:24 PM
Ok, I tried that. I made the E layer most significant (bits were either 0 or 80). Then G (40), R(20), and finally B(10) was least significant.

I opened all 4 bitmaps in GIMP. I made a new image, 640 x 480 and RGB mode. I made new layers, so I had 4 in total. All were set to addition (instead of normal). I copy and pasted each bmp image into the new window. I flattened the image, and then saved it as a 16 color bitmap.

Then a long story in a nutshell, colors from a dos-box screenshot was extracted, applied to the greyscale image, and rearranged as neccesary. The new pallet, when applied to the image, works great and I get the original screen back. Next, I just need to figure out a way (got some ideas) and write a C program to automate this. Take the 4 bitplanes (EGRB order most significant first), convert into chunks and write a run of the mill BMP and use the pallet I just worked out for the color map. For those who are interested I'll list the RGB values of the pallet in the order I have them in.

That's about it. I think I found all the info I can, and listed what a person needs for looking at the strange screen captures PM2 makes. That said, I instead advise just using Dos-Box to take screenshots. Press Ctrl-F5 to take a capture. All images are stored in the Capture folder in your Dos-Box folder in the Program Files where it gets installed. I probably won't get started on learning to code right away (I know a little already), but maybe some day I'll try to make a little DOS utility to process those 8 files. I hope you found all of these info to be of some use. (If you are confused about BMP files, a web search will turn up what you need to know.)

Need a bit of help with the game, since I've not seen this anywhere else.

For everybody who's managed to get a Queen - how do you get the travelling salesman to appear? He tends to appear once for me early in life, and then disappears for the rest of the game even though I have oodles of cash. All the guides I've read manage to have him appear every November. For everybody who's managed to get a Queen - how do you get the travelling salesman to appear? He tends to appear once for me early in life, and then disappears for the rest of the game even though I have oodles of cash. All the guides I've read manage to have him appear every November. What am I doing wrong?[/b]

The salesman only visit three times/game. He only appears If you have over 1000$.

Looks like I sucked. My first child became a normal housewife and married a regular merchant. I wonder if being a bit fat changed anything, because I couldnt change to make her thiner by the time the game ended.

Anyone has any tips on making her tiner? Also, does it change the end result? I got her to meet the young ofiver for 5 straight years, yet only got 60 relationship with him.

Btw, I got 324 points, yet I dont know how good/bad it is. I guess the max must be like 1000 points.

Here's an useful tip: Go to the beach at summer time. This, for some weird reason, makes your daughter lose weight.

I don't think weight affects anything but the ability to wear some unimportant dresses, so I wouldn't bother much.
Drinking some kind of special milk you can get from random encounters with certain birds in the desert area if you are lucky can also make her loose weight (IIRC).
You can also change her diet.

But the thing with the travelling salesman is that I have oddles of cash, and still he doesn't appear? Do I have to have less than 4000 gp? *confused*

What really gives me a bit of a warm fuzzy is if I use my own birthday, my own bloodtype, and the birthday of my oldest daughter, I can get the warrior princess ending (she gets skilled enough to defeat the war god and marries the prince).

Father love must be at the maximum (but the only way you can even see that hidden meter is by cheating). Also you shouldn't visit the Prince too mush (the young officer at the castle every January), the charisma shouldn't be too high (or she'll become a royal courtesan) and the morals should be somewhat low (otherwise she'd feel uncomfortable.

also make sure you talk to her every month and don't send her to have free time on her own (with or without money), because that lovers the father love meter.

You should take as many vacations together and you should listen to her wishes (she might want to learn more of one thing, or be taller or something) - and try to make them come true (if she wants to be taller, you need the Cat's Eye - you can get it by cheat or by defeating the cat creatures in the eastern forest adventure (but rarely).

This should help, but it's not really something all that special (still you should try).

Anyone know how to increase Social Rep. without the reference to events? Like maybe a course or work that can increase it?

It gets better if you improve on some other things that influence it (like decorum), but it's not really fast and you can't work on it directly.

The fastest advance is through the work at the bar (also increases the conversation skills, but lowers the intelligence dramatically).

How do you get her to marry the prince? Is the prince the young official that only appears during january?

And the warrior princess must be quite hard (not to mention you must get extremely lucky).

And also by winning the dance competition at the fair.

I´m not sure, but I think you can win the points by winning the painting competition too.

Sebatianos
13-10-2007, 06:57 AM
You get them yes, both by dance and art contests (but the question was with which work or classes can you do it - that's why I didn't mention it).

The art contest contributes less social points, but there are some to be had, where the dance also (if you win) gets you the Lady Ring which also boosts you refinement (further increasing the social points).

Also by sending her to many poetry classes (just be careful - everything that raises her sensitivity may turn her away from fighting).

Guest
13-10-2007, 09:21 PM
Dont even mention it. I got a girl who got to the salon to work all the time and her sensitivity went to 999. I thought it was good, but it definitaly sucks because the woman runs away all the time and becomes delinquent all the time too.

My favorite child was the one with something like 50 sensitivity that could get 200 stress and keep on working.

The prince is that young officer that shows up at the palace, in January. Every other month, you try to work your way up the social ladder, starting with the guard

Warrior princess was a bit of a misnomer-- she became a general in the army that married the prince. The start is by paying for training by working at the farm (builds up strength and constitution), and then doing all of the adventuring.

I have not played in years, so I cannot give any details. However, do not accept the demon's offer to exchange purity for magical ability. Having the girl end up marrying the demon is not good for your final score.

Guest

Oh, I got the general ending. I thought I did pretty good, but I thought there could be a higher "military" ending, like the "Xen warrior princess" ending or something

Yet, in my ending, she ended up marrying the "genius knight" or something.

Btw, I did trade a lot of sin for points. I did it 5 or 6 times I guess, and yes, it was a pain in the behind because her sin went to 300 or so. Fortunaly I had so much money by then (getting money from adventuring is WAY too easy, I could get 2000-4000 every time I went out) that I payed the church to get rid of the sins (it takes 1000 to get rid of 100 sin points, which is very easy).

Btw, is there any other way besides adventuring to get so much money? Adventuring and killing the skeletons in the graveyard in the desert is what I did to get the money (it gives you 350-500 gold by skeleton).

Anyone can give step-by-step instructions on how to make the game work in DOS box? I keep getting an error that says it's an executable that can't be run on dos mode.

On another note, It's hella hard to become ruling queen. I tried and tried and always wound up becoming Warrior hero or Mage hero :tai: . It's just annoying that there's so many factors that can affect the game's outcome and some of them can be as small as getting sick or so which can be easily missed in an entire playthrough. :tai:

Mad Eddy's and the Beta Shop
Go to town.
Press and hold, all at the same time: F12, R, N, and Q.
hit 'Cancel' to go back to your house.
When you go back to town, there should be two new shops: Mad Eddy's and the Beta Shop.

Mad Eddy gives you free money, and lets you buy very rare items, among other things.

The Beta Shop lets you select the ENDing, among other things.

you can look at this page for usefull tips http://princessmaker.maison-otaku.net/princess.htm

Now, 'bout that game:
1) Create a c:\oldgames\ (we're in Windows here)
2) Drag and drop \pm2\ to c:\oldgames (The WHOLE folder).
3) Run dosbox and input:

mount c c:\oldgames\

Nope, sorry. This game used to be available for download a year or two ago, but then the site was threatened with all sort of legal nastiness if it wasn't taken down. The site policy is to keep the review in place without the download so as not to throw away the work that went into it.

You can almost certainly get the game illegally somehow (torrents, dodgy Eastern European sites, etc) but the forum is kept free of such links (and words to type into google) as the site could still get into trouble for stuff held on the forum.

It's logical that the files are either encrypted or compressed, the latter being more likely.

Goet

I thought the program was able to extract and decrypt too, but it does only extract, that's what they says the program does indeed. I believe "inners" files are encrypted, but it's just a guess deducted by my little experience in translating illusion games (why do you think they're compressed instead?). by the way, my account can't (still?) send pm's nor edit post. I'd like to contact Natso, had the feeling he could help me somehow, maybe doing a encrypting/decrypting (or compress/decompress) tool, but of course if any of you can (and want eheh!) help me i would really appreciate :)

Age of game has nothing to do with whether it's abandonware, or not. Some games from the 1980s are still being sold. It's a matter of who owns the rights to a given title, and whether they're willing to turn a blind eye to people downloading it. So some games, like Betrayal at Krondor, began with a cost, then were offered for free, then were offered for a charge, again, when the rights changed hands.

I've had this on disk since its US release," which I think was halted because the distributor went suddenly bellyup. I got quite a few things in alpha and beta for possible magazine preview that never made it(Frog City's Odyssey was one of the most interesting), but this title was the only one I recall that ever made it to full, final code without hitting the stands.

Well, this, and Where's Fat Lou? But that was such a horrendous piece of junk that I'm not surprised its release remained limited to Italy. And I did review it, for CNET. Princess Maker 2? By the time I got around to it, it was dead in the water. Shame, though at least it has a successor alive and well.

Second one i decided to make her ultra evil, and she ended up killing the demon and replacing him as Queen of the Underworld. Was quite different...

My old compy crashed on the third attempt though, and born under the birthsign of Mars she was at 5 ft 8 somewhere around age 13, or 14. Definitely had the potential to break 6 ft there...

Anyone have some tips on making a lot of money without adventuring? I dont want to have to cheat.

Anyone have some tips on making a lot of money without adventuring? I dont want to have to cheat. One way is to make her really good at cooking at the beggining by helping with the housework - this way she will also score temperament. after getting at least 100 in cooking, get her to raise sensitivity with babysitting. This way she will score the cooking contest (a 50-50 chance, always re-try if you don't win), get 3000G and you can concentrate in other areas.

Btw, I'm very frustrated. I got her a real good reputation in basically everything, a popularity of 1000 and she became... a writer? what? She defeated the war God and she becomes a writer! She never had a class of poetry in the entire game! Where did she even get the idea? O_o

That's the typical career of a writer. One is good at everything but can't decide. Suddenly he gets a kiss from the muse (perhaps your princess is the other way round), and that's it. Or the popularity annoys him. But popularity can be good for becoming a writer as well. The requirements for being a writer are underestimated anyway.

I guess she did get the kiss of the muse after all. At least she did marry the prince. But still! She might become the next J.K. Rowling and make a lot of money, but I wish she'd become a Prime Minister or something.

You don't need her to win every festival to make her a princess! You don't even need her to win a festival at all. All you need is her to marry the prince. And that only needs dedication ;)

Winning the first competition isn't too hard. Simply select a birth date which gives her nearly 12 months before the first contest happens. The cooking contest can be won easily if you're evil enough to torture her with housework all the time.

But the game is not about reaching a "highscore".

That was nothing but our best guess to why it was made non-downloadable. Despite a very thorough search we found no record of who or why changed the game's status.

If we actually received a C&D, there would have to have been a mention of that somewhere in the staff forums.

so everytime i start the game via pm2.exe the dos screen just minimizes to the task bar. i can klick on the thing (or tab) again, the game continues, but after 1 or 2 seconds it minimizes again.

are there any settings to change so it can work right finally?

Hello,

I am able to play this game by clicking on the PM2.exe but I have a really unfortunate problem which I'm wondering if anyone could give me some advice for.

I'd like to know if there's any way to make the game run in a window rather than full screen. Or if there's any other ideas, they are much appreciated.

Here's the background:

In a horrible accident, my laptop's screen display was damaged. Luckily everything works BUT all the colours are negative (i.e. black is white, red is blue etc.)...

So I remedied this situation by using a magnifying program (DesktopZoom3) which has an option to invert colour.

This turned out alright but the only problem now is in order to see a game run in normal colour the game has to be in a window because desktopzoom (or the other colour inversion programs I've tried) can't run games full screen.

I don't really care that I have to play them in a window (although Princess Maker has such nice graphics) but I can't seem to get pm to run in a window.

Any comments or suggestions are wholeheartedly welcomed.

Ian.

This has already been covered but the best way to "win" easily is to pick a November birthday. November 1st if you are really cheesy. So far I have only got one "artistic" ending. I thought I was going to get a second but got Queen by Marriage instead.

I tend not to aim at winning the first festival. If I am lucky I win the second. But I usually am dead certain to win the third.

My cycle tends to be Farm and dance until Dance advances to the next stage. It's up to you whether or not to throw in a class or two of poetry here. But either way it's Art until I get Advent of Angels. If I need money, a farm cycle. Then Housework until temperance caps. I gain sensitivity at the Salon rather than Babysitting, because I don't aim at the cooking contest first (Be warned Salon requires more stress management, because the salon owner does not hire delinquents). Save the egg, and I can see the fairies in the forest. Only 150 sensitivity needed for that. After that you can reliably win two high earning contests. Sell the stuff you used to gain high sensitivity. Of all characteristics, this one always comes back. Using this however, you will get the most boring of the rivals. Without fail.

To avoid the artist endings. Sell those master brushes Advent is a static value painting and it's point value will always be high enough to win, and once you've got it you don't need art anymore.

Of all the items the merchant orc sells these two are the most important. The Venus Charm, or whatever it is, and the demon pendant. The reason why the Demon pendant is so good is if you use it early enough, you can easily get back the ten or so morals that you lose. For that you get something like +10 to +20 to a random magic stat, and +100 refinement and charisma.

The Spirit Ring is a good third.

To avoid stress and behaviour related problems, High Temperance, High Constitution and about 100-150 morals will cover you.

An alternative to getting Temperance is to jump straight into the various combat trainings, which will get you a different rival.

I have only ever once bothered getting conversation it took me near enough 18 months, with free time and vacations to max it Sometimes you only get 2 points in a 10 day cycle, but you can't afford block months because the stress+ is so high. Which left me with barely two years to do everything else. Thank you Science class, which is easily the most efficient schooling in the game (You gain intelligence) but you do lose Magic Defence.

Other important statistic values (Other than whatever you're trying to raise)

To beat the war god, it is helpful to have approximately 400+ hp. You want a combat defense score of approximately 72 (I tried 70, and even that minimal difference and he thumped me) Magic is more efficient than combat unless you have neglected your magic training, but you need 200mp+ to beat him reliably, otherwise you run out too soon.

To aim more socially I started with my normal cycle, but I aimed to max Protocol sooner which allowed me to start the long cycle of queen visits earlier. (She only cares about temperance).

Weight loss for fun and profit. Switch to a weight loss diet during the months of June July and August. Get at least one seaside vacation in per month in these three months.
Ancient milk is also (very occasionally) dropped by Giant Crows near the first mountain entrance inside the cave. It is usually more difficult to defeat the crows than it is to get them to drop the milk, but it is based on luck. Wildcats in the forest very very infrequently drop a cats eye which can be traded to cait sith in the glacier and the Desert, and he will give you the option to decrease your weight. In 8 completions I've only ever got the Cats Eye once.

Stress management: See above. Other useful points. Never ever forget that gaining a rival reduces your stress to 0. I forget this every time and schedule an uneccessary free time or vacation. Ice shards in the glacier reduce stress by 10. If you are working in high stress conditions, dolly's at the pawn shop reduce stress by 40.

Other information: Unless you are going for a really high social reputation character Conversation is NOT worth it, ever.

I think that's everything. The ending I have most recently been getting is Court Magician, but I have received General once, Princess of Darkness twice
Writer once, and Sorceress once, and one Queen by Marriage.

Solved the config file thing, the file wasn't listed as a config file, I started up notepad and used it to open the "speed dial" application, which oddly enough turned out to be the config

As far as what I was trying to achieve, with the dresses is that if someone could figure out how they wouldn't show up, they could (I thought) they might be able to figure out how to make the internal perameters point to different things, like perhaps a file of my own making...

Some question no walkthroughs explain:
- what are all the stats for? (like constitution gives hp. But moral? And all the others?)
- what are requirements to gain money from the jobs? (With other words what causes the girl to not work/work badly, and because of that be sad and run away?)
- what are the stats to wear the different clothes?
- how does adventuring works? (I never went adventuring. How does time pass there? How you gain back health and mana? What is the combat-system? How you find monsters to kill and how much gold you can get from adventuring?)
- which protector-gods (after you beat the War God) boost which stat?
- in every festival you can take the same challenge, or you have to do a different-one?
- how you get social reputation (to talk with people)?
- what does the father-daughter conversation options used for?

It's hard to say something either way about this game...

On the pro side, it's definitely an original. The anime graphics and sequences are really fun and great-looking. The gameplay is simple enough, and the RPG elements are well-ingrained. The characters are memorable, the story is OK for something that's from Japan. Gainax is always sure to please, I guess.

On the con side is the difficulty/learning curve. The time limit is troublesome to get used to, taking into consideration the fact some jobs only become available at certain ages. The whole "father" thing was strange, to say the least. On the plus side, I felt real pride at seeing my daughter become a great writer. On the negative side... Incest. They should have just made the player character the princess and the whole time issue could have been wholly eliminated, giving the game more replay value. The adventuring stuff (combat included) is shallow and short-lived, as my daughter was 16 when she could actually defeat a monster. Money is always effin' tight, and a simple increase (Srsly, 500 bucks? I get the feeling asking the king for six would require some serious begging on my part) or a way to increase the salary would have been good, and would have made managing the work aspects easier.

My daughter was a little run-away. Apparently, she fucking hated working in the Salon. She ran away a total of 7 times (two weeks in a monastery? GR8! two weeks in a salon? DAD IS A NAZI). It doesn't help that the stats are not explained and that there's no manual to explain them. I had to constantly refer to walkthroughs to check if I was doing everything right. Still, I educated her thoroughly in Science, Painting, Dance, etc. She won the Art festival 3 times before some bitch encouraged her to join the dance competition, which pays 1000 bucks less than the art competition.

The difficulty is a bit hard to get over, and will turn off people who want a casual experience (like me). I've only played it twice, and each time was an uphill battle with my patience. But I guess it's for people who have time to kill. Hell, most RPGs are. It's overall pretty good, but not for me.

As has been said she isn't your daughter but a gift from the Gods to humanity, the father was chosen for being a great war hero, she isn't even given to him as a baby. So while a case for incest could be made it would be missing the whole being a blood relative thing...which pretty mich means it isn't.

Your daughter has a lot of different possible endings, from marrying a Prince to becoming a Master of a martial arts school all the way to being a normal house wife. I never knew she could marry the father, there doesn't seem to be anyway of getting her to love him like that to me.....maybe there is and I missed it. But it's a game you only get out what you put in.

I like to go "against the grain" at times, and don't want to take the easy route of adventuring and being a warrior to get money, nor do I want to use Mad Eddy. But I'm not going for any particular route, I just want to experiment.

Is it possible to get enough money when you don't do adventuring or cheating? And what is the best way to do that?

To get the stress level down scold your daughter, this way also the father-daughter relationship gets better.

How does telling her off make her less stressed and like the dad more.

Scolding is normally something you use on a naughty child not a overworked one. And people don't normally end up liking the person who just told them off more.

Maybe you meant one of the other options?

kmonster
04-09-2011, 11:25 AM
No I meant this option. The stress level doesn't show how tired she is, it shows how rebellious she is. If you don't guide your child and ignore its misbehavior it will fall into bad ways and it will be hard to get it back to the path of virtue (or at least the game developers seem to think so).

Jdb1984
04-09-2011, 04:54 PM
But doesn't time off have the same effect on her stress?

Luchsen
04-09-2011, 05:58 PM
Delinquency shows how rebellious she is, as the word says. I recommend to give her one free-time a month, best the last slot. If she has 0 Stress at the month's end/the next one's beginning, she will have a happy face - I think that is on of the requirements for her giving you a birthday present.

Working can bring only little money for a longer time. After working at a job for a certain number of times she will get a raise, and then a second and perhaps a third. You have to get up the perks that she needs for the respective work and keep her stress down to have her doing well on many days. If she does well on all days, she will get her pay doubled.

- in every festival you can take the same challenge, or you have to do a different-one?
- how you get social reputation (to talk with people)?
- what does the father-daughter conversation options used for?

No one answered these so I thought I would.
1. CON - HP; STR - Damage potential/armor breaking; INT - MP; Charm/Charimsa (relabeled from Sex Appeal) - related to competitions, class, work. Sensitivity - Relates to fleeing and talking to monsters chance. Certain amounts let you find fairies and elves. Can cause daughter to find random items and gold during adventures, but can also cause daughter to run away. If Sensitivity is higher than any stat, she can run away. MORALITY - one of the most underated stats. Morality is the top cap of stress. If stress goes over morality, then daughter becomes delinquent. FAITH/SIN - Determines the top cap of stress/delinquency. Even if your daughter goes over the morality cap, she won't necessarily become delinquent if her Faith is higher than stress, or she will still listen to you *despite* delinquency if her Sin is higher.
2. You can get social rep by doing social jobs, training, or winning dance/art contests.
3. Father/Daughter conversations are important to keeping father daughter relations high or low. Talking to her raises relation ship by one point. Giving her pocket money reduces stress by 20 (very important to do this early on). Scolding while she is delinquent raises relationship and reduces stress.
Note: Time off is only good for mass bombing stress with pocket money. It reduces father daughter relationship (because you are basically letting her go off on her own). Vacation raises relationship and either increases sensitivity and weight (mountains) or reduces weight (sea during the summer months). For best results, give her high morality and faith/sin, and reduce stress with vacations/pocket money chat options.

So...you can only raise the level of your charisma if you're a hooker?

I read that somewhere. Is it true? I did play the game and notice that nothing I did made the charisma go up.

No, Dance school conveniently raises Constitution, Charisma. Also Art.

There used to be a PM2 editor but the link is dead. Can someone upload the stats editor again or send me a working link? Thanks.

PS : not talking about any hex editor. Here it's a trainer made in C++ which is much easier to use than editing hex files.

I managed to find an older version of it.
Also dusted off another editor for this game I've collaborated on with Natso (I think that was the nick at least?) a few years ago.
Enjoy.

been replaying this again, after i found a roland mt-32 8MB soundfont for general midi. this game sounds wonderful with it. though roland purists would still say it's glitchy without a real roland soundboard or emulator box w/rom. also the guitars sound rockin' with a more modern steel pedal soundfont on top of the roland soundfont.

Hey-

I played this about a year ago, then my computer crashed. I just got around to downloading DOSbox and this game again. LOVE IT! But, I can't get the cheat to work this time around. Is it my new computer? Windows 7? Or did the game change in some way? Anyone else having this issue?

Okay, never mind, problem solved. I feel really stupid. To any future person who has an HP laptop with f keys that control brightness, volume, wireless connection, etc.: You have to hold down the fn key as well as the f12, r, n, and q keys in order to get the cheat to work.

FINALLY I can enjoy this game again!....it only took me 3 hours to figure it out. :palm:LOL

there's an easier ,permanent way to access the cheat/debug shops.

- enter in "MOPI = 1" into the config file(should be a *.CNF file).
- press F10 while playing.
- save the game after the shops show up and you should be able to use them anytime without pressing F10 again.
