LEGEND.... I LOVE THIS GAME. I have a tiny little statue that I used to hold for good luck whilst playing it on my mac (no it wasn't to stop the computer crashing) I stopped playing the game cos I chewed the top of the statue and the varnished made me ill and I didn't want to play without it.

I remember the days and nights played with friends or my sister. The first one was a real blast when it was released, but had only one map. So the second with random maps, scenarii and such!!!

Me again. I downloaded the game and it works just fine. Ah ! The memories when I hear "Greetings warlord". Now, a couple of years after releasing this game, SSG released a Deluxe edition which contained a scenario editor and lots of new armies. That was way cool. You could design your own armies and terrain types for the maps (like caves or lava). I don't wanna ask for the moon, but if you guys could upload it... I would go to nearest shrine and bless you !!!

I downloaded this and it works in xp but no music, even after settup of soundcard, but has voice. In both VDM and Dosbox I also get just a picture of a head and it don't go away, and no pointer. But I do get the music this way. How can I solve this? I REALLY want to play with the music. Help please. This is the best strategy game site on the web. Surely someone can solve this problem who is more of a computer wiz than I.

I have the same problem as the poster earlier. The game starts and says "Greeting Warlord" and then the head just stays there and you can't do anything else.

Ok so yea im using dos box and im having the same problem as the other guy. Runs great a bitch chopy but not to bad untill intro screen then when the head pops up and says "Greetings warlord" my mouse disapears and i cant click anything an dhte head does not go away. THe game does not freez, the guys eyes keep blinking. ANyone know how to fix this? I would love some help, this and Castle II siege and conquest were my first games EVER so iwould really like to get a working copy of this.

:ok: Well, I have come up with a solution to the no curser, face won't go away problem that is a sure winner. It is to play WARLORDS IV 4 Heroes Of Etheria instead! A far better game than 2 and it has gone back to it's turn based roots from Real Time. I purchased a NEW copy on Ebay for under $9:00 and $5:00 shipping and handling. It is done in oldstyle 2D graphics yet! Hope this idea helps someone. Yeah, I know still can't play 2 but sometimes it's best to take the easy way out. IN SPITE OF THE OCCASIONAL GLITCH IN GAME PLAY THIS SITE STILL HAS THE BEST DOWNLOADS ON THE WEB! I NEVER WOULD HAVE FOUND WARLORDS IV 4 Heroes Of Etheria IF NOT FOR TRYING TO RUN 2.

I'm having the same problem with the talking head. Running the game with the 'V' and 'N' args gets me past the head, but on my first turn, no controls respond.

I used to have Warlords, (the original one), a while ago (from gamebird). It's an awesome game, though of course less developed than Warlords II. I got Warlords II a while ago as well, certainly better in most points, but I missed the map in Warlords I. Most of II's maps are almost completely islands, but the game's okay. II has got great music, too.

well i got the link to an existing download for warlords 2 for PC, not pocket pc, on some foreign site (poland or bulgaria, or hungary? forgot it...). here on abandonia we can only get the pocket pc version, which is not only commercial, but also unusable with a normal desktop pc.

does anybody know where to get additional warlords 2 scenarios and the v1.11 patch? they should be available for free, but i cannot find the...

i would want these for additional maps to crush my enemies into the ground... hehehe!

goto options and turn off the Speech.
I had a trouble with that head too.

If you wan't to buy it, I would recommend Warlords III instead (not Warlords IV!) - it's the same game - improved graphichs (though not very much, and they still stay true to the original(s)), some very shallow RPG-elements, and Warlords all the way :ok:

And there's a big disbalance between Dark and Light forces: A SuperMegaMighty Dark lords produces in 3 turns but a weak little knight with 3 hobbits produces in 4-5 turns.
This make impossible to win the game on the last stage.

And 1 thing I hate a lot : When you capture an enemy city it turns all units that can be produced into your race.

I hate that there's no cool allies.

Yes . it was in 1998 when i bought this disk. Warlords 3 "Reign of Heroes" AND THERE'S NO HEROES IN THE GAME!!!(sorry . there's only 1 hero, but he is you, sitting in front of your monitor) I will post a photo of this disk later 11 hours after time of this post.
Yes you enemies have a different units but you cannot build their units. You cannot build a production of new units.
only 4: kakapult,heavy infantry, cavalry,knight (may be i forgot 1 or 2 weak units.).
The rest units is available to your enemies. 10 races each have 5 or 6 units.

In Warlord 2 when you capture a city you can build almost every unit in the game. In Warlord 3 you can build only those 5 or 6 units of your race. I understand that this is reasonable that light forces will not build zombies or necromancers but this makes the game boring.

again:

Last stage in the caverns

Darks have 3 cities each producing 1 dark lord for each 3 turns.
Lights have also 3 cities each producing 1 knight for each 5 turns.
each darklord equal or stronger then knight.

after 15 turns they have a 5 darklords and you have a 3 knights. Obviously you lost.

So when I recently saw a disk with Warlords 4. I feel sick :vomit:

Well you must've got the game wrong or something there are 5-6 hero types (at least), and in scenario you can build your own sides, and you can choose between at least 50-60 different units, however darklords rising (expansion) offers much more...

I've got warlord III on CD, just wondering if it's abandonware - It's bloody good too and the music is sets the mood brilliantly. also the dude who pops up and gives you hollow threats (the evil warlord) is hilariuos to watch and makes you want to bash his skull face in - adding to the game :titan:

I've seen there was a screenshot of worlords III - reign of heroes here. Just wondering if you got it to work under windows XP. I've checked on the internet and used the -wincursor at the end of the shortcut but it doesnt stop the game freezing after you make the firt move. Any ideas how to fix this?

Holy sh*t!! Warlords 2 is still around?? This is the game that messed up my college years all those.. uh.. years ago (along with CM). This game is a true legend! I have all the later versions (except the realtime one, I couldn't even begin to countenance such a thing!) and they all suck. Warlords 2 forever!!

Warlords II, this has always been one of my favorites. Man, we spent countless nights on hot-seat battles with this game :)

There was a new version, Warlords II Deluxe, which featured improved graphics (256-color), a level- and campaign editor, as well as lots of new tilesets and maps.
However, the music was not as good as the original music. Too "soft".
Anyone knows if there's a wy to combine the good graphics of Warlords II Deluxe with the great adlib (XMidi-) music from the "normal" version?

That would be the perfect Warlords II experience IMHO...

Hello Dark Star - I am running Warlords II on Windows XP via the magic of DOS - the game runs perfect EXCEPT I don't get the wonderful music you are talking about. Do you know how to make this work? I'm just using the regular way to access DOS in XP. Should I be using DosBox?

My SOUND.BAT has this line:
SB16.COM SB16.ADV 1
which I set via INSTALL.EXE

I wasn't sure which option to select to match my laptop which is a SONY VAIO PCG-TR3

I've now upgraded to version 1.11 and changed the settings to: SB16.COM SC32MPU.ADV 1 by choosing Roland Sound Canvas in INSTALL.EXE.

The music is great!!! Are there just two songs? I heard one in setup and one in gameplay.

Either that or VDMSound (which might be a better in the circumstances). Windows XP' emulation of DOS leaves a lot to be desired - and problems with sound or music (or, more often, both) are not uncommon.

Configure the game to use Sound Blaster 16, IRQ 7, DMA 1, Adress 220. Those are the default values for sound emulation both in DOSBox and VDMSound.

I'm curious about Signposts in this game. There is a command Signpost x which is inactive while I was playing. When does this become active and what does it do? I read somewhere that you can change the text in the signposts during gameplay - I suspect that might be in the delux version? Anyway, just getting curious about some trivia.

Thanks veru much, yes that's correct, you need to stand on the signpost before you use the command.
Also, the game selects a random song to play, and a new song is randomly selected at the start of each turn, the songs are usually not repeated. The music is high quality and enjoyable!

I don't think Warlords 2 is built for mobile phones ;) You need a pc to run it.

Warlords 2 works just fine under DOSBox - I believe it's either the fault of the specific port of DOSBox for your platform or just your hardware can't handle it.

We absolutely loved it, but thought there were a few improvements that could be made.

If I remember right your army can't, you need a hero to explore them.

After the hero (best if backed up by an army, too) enters the ruins, you need to order him/her to explore (the keyboard shortcut is Z if I'm not mistaken). Note that ruins can only be explored once, so if an enemy player explored the ruins before you, you won't be able to explore it again (you can right-click on the ruins to see if they were explored or not).

One thing that always eluded me: what is the "enhance mode" available in options for players (both human/AI)? In Deluxe version it's even selectable on the scenario setup screen.

Enhanced Players have all their newly produced armies given a +2 Strenght Bonus.

You can check that by giving yourself the [x]enhanced option and then look at the armies you produce.

Note: The option only changes the strength of newly produced armies, not already existing ones. So if you "enhance" a warlord right from the start, he has always stronger units, if you enhance him via the "settings" menue at a later point, he produces stronger units from this point on and if you take the "enhance" away, he produces normal units from that point on.

A game against enhanced warlords can be quite challenging, especially if one of them gets really strong right from the start.

The most challenging option however is the "I am the Greatest" Checkbox, if you select it, after a few turns all NPC Players will declare war on you. Should they be enhanced and you are not, it is impossible to win since they just overrun you with sheer masses.

Umm... Warlords 2? Armies? Do you remember how exactly this armies looks? Reminder:

Actually, HoMM can have more units per hero, as they accumulated in one slot. In WL2 every unit is just that. No grouping, no accumulating, no too-big armies.

Actually, HoMM can have more units per hero, as they accumulated in one slot. In WL2 every unit is just that. No grouping, no accumulating, no too-big armies.

What I mean is to have the means to control lots of units, in Warlords 2 we can control a lot of individual units, that form an army.

I've been on a Warlords 2 gaming spree for the past week (again). Anyone else? :smile2:

Been playing WL2 for years since I found out about doxbox.
Only problem I ever had with the game is that unit limit is set for 999 and that usually becomes a problem when I play vs 7 coms "I am the greatest" and enhance the coms ingame.
Anyone know how to increase max units beyond 999?
