Okay, this post is actually for my cousin, who is way too lazy to register to the forum and ask the question himself, so he asked me to do it for him. Well, my cousin is a Star Wars maniac, and he has played a lot of Star Wars games, especially those involving lightsaber hack and slash, like Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, KotOR, KotOR 2, Episode III, Obi-wan, etc. Anyway, at this moment he wants to play something else, that may not be based on Star Wars, but is still a similar game. What I mean by a similar game is that he wants to play a futuristic 3D hack and slash action (with 3rd person perspective, not 1st person, and not FPS either). Also, he only wants the PC format at this moment 'cause he is having a problem with his Playstation lately. I am not aware of any such game, so I was wondering if anybody here can recommend this kind of game for him? Thanks in advance.

Can I recommend System Shock 1 & 2. These games can be set to concentrate on the fighting, and hack & slash elements :karate: :guns: :rifle: .

I know they are 1st person, but it's late, and I can't think of anything else right now. They are still excellent games.

Edit - I think there are a few Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King games that are hack and slash. :Titan:

But Lord of the Rings games are not futuristic, are they? :D

I told my cousin about System Shock, but I think he still prefers 3rd person perspective. Anyway, thanks. Anything else?

That's a fairly specific kind of game, basically sewn up by Star Wars - maybe he should try something a bit different for a change? There are a couple of mods for UT2004 which are third person fighting ones (Chaos UT features it for instance) but generally not especially futuristic.

Anachronox is a scifi RPG that really quite good and I second the System Shock. Also Deux Ex is good.

That's what I told him too, and he does want something else for a change... at least temporarily (yesterday right after I posted this thread he found out about Lego Star Wars videogame, I think he wants to hunt it down :D ).

I'll check Anachronox and Deus Ex. Thanks, guys!

Lego Star Wars is meant to be pretty good, if occasionally repetitive.

BAS -

Deus Ex is 1st person. Not third. But it is rather good, so I recommend it.

I suggest trying to ween him/her onto something more strategic. Like the Combat Mission games.

If you can find a copy, then Bioforge is awesome.

Well there is Scrapland, which is futuristic, third eprson and 3D, but I'm not sure about the hack and slahs part, it's more like a GTA game but with robots.

a game that is VERY similar to KOTOR and KOTOR2 is Nevewinter Nights, albeit that game is set in fantasy, not space setting. Still - it fits all other descriptions.

another game is Oni - a fantastic futuristic 3rd person fighter/shooter. It is such an underated game I can't even explain it, but it is so fun and good. This one is futuristic, but has nothing to do with space.

If he'd like to try a more strategic futuristic game, then any of the X-coms are good.

An old RPG game that is very similar to diablo, except in space, is cybermercs, although you 'll definatelly have trouble finding this one! It wasn't very popular, but it is a good game.

A solid shooter that is space-bound is Alien vs. Predator. Really fun, but kind of short.

Others... Mech warrior? project eden? gunman chronicles? mdk? shogo?

hmmm... im running dry on my futuristic games... Does he own Jedi Knights 2? That's a solid shooter for a star-wars fan. Oh, and also Republic Commando - that game is CRAZY good! You may have mentioned these in the start, I forget, but there just may be a pool of starwars games he hasn't tried yet.

OK - those are ALL the space/futuristic games me and my brother could think of. Some of them fit your description, others only somewhat. Hope this helps! Cheers

Thank you guys for all the recommendations given here, my cousin and I really appreciate them. Yes, he does have Dark Forces and Jedi Knight. He also does have Alien vs. Predator. Bioforge seems nice, except for the missing hack and slash if I'm not mistaken. That Oni game mentioned, it is Onimusha or something? Deus Ex also sounds great, again the problem would be finding a copy in here. I also suggested Nano Breaker to him, but as I mentioned before he is having trouble with his Playstation (he needs to send it for service repairment). Anyway, he seems to choose Lego Star Wars for the next game. He has contacted a store and confirmed a copy is reserved there, and he would get the game in a few days (although he needs to drive 3 hours to reach that store, since it is in another city).

Again, thanks a lot for all the recommendation! :ok:

no, oni is oni - check out this site:

great game, both for PC and for playstation! The game is really cool because, unlike KOTOR and many other 3rd person fighters, you actually have to execute moves like punching, kicking, jumping, combos, etc... like in a fighting game. One of my all-time favourites.
