I think it's great that the game is on the site, but I sorta thought we would look into the othere genres :D

Not that I don't mind having more Adventure games on the site.

Speaking for myself, I have never played any of the Quest for Glory games, so as soon as I have the time I will. This is gonna be great!

as long as the games aren't EGA games from the dawn of the computerage I'm happy.
Personally I love adventure games
besides that I'm looking forward to some Strategy games

Tom Henrik

It's a code for graphics.

CGA = 4 colours
EGA = 16 colours
VGA = 256 colours

It's a code for graphics.

CGA = 4 colours
EGA = 16 colours
VGA = 256 colours

at first glance it looks allright.
It's a bit incorrect though.
ega was technically capable of 64 colors :)

I could explain pages of difference between the different graphics adapters.
For a very short and more accurate table look here

I often met Tandy when choosing graphics mode or sound in old games, therefore I alway wondered what that might be...

You don't know what you are missing :P
I have a question by the way:
Is there a VGA remake of QG 2?
I have the game but it's EGA :x  I can't play that
Regarding QG 3, i think it's inferior in terms of quality, compared to QG 1(wich i think is the best adventure game ever made)

EGA:

Abbreviation of enhanced graphics adapter, a graphics display system for PCs introduced by IBM in 1984. EGA supports 16 colors from a palette of 64 and provides a resolution of 640 by 350.

totally 64 colors but only 16 active at one time

I agree, the game itself wasn't too complicated, and had a great story that was very enjoyable. Alas, like you said, I think most people, myself included, didn't enjoy the old dialogue based mechanic. The fact that you needed to use the exact phrase to do something can be really anoying. That's why I can't wait for the VGA of it to come out, the best of both worlds. :D

I think they're trying to remake it so it's still got the whole story intact, but the game itself will probably run a lot smoother, and for the most part will be somewhat different. Here's the link if you want to see it,

well the class was a pain in the ass (the forums are auto censoring me its not supposed to be pain the the behind) becuase it was so hard to become a paladin, in QFG2 u have to have a relly high honor stat to get upgraded form fighter to paladin

For QFG 3 I would highly reccomend playing the fighter for the first time, just cause this game has a lot of combat, as well as exploration. After you beat it, I reccommend you try the other classes. This game is a lot of fun, and like I said, if you were at all into King's Quest you should play it!!

[ :ot: ]About that QG2 remake, will they be including the X ray glasses? I have the original, but I could never get that far, mainly, as xndr already said, guesing the exact phrase was nearly impossible, and I got stuck in rasier, trying to climb into a window. I heard great things about those glasses, but never got to use them. [/ :ot: ]

http://www.agdinteractive.com/ says QFG2VGA will be released before mid-2005 and incorporates updated graphics, enhanced music, and mouse-based point & click icons, while maintaining the story, charm, and puzzles from the 1990 original.

Hey everyone. I am pumped that i found this site. I was bored and started thinking about King's Quest from back in the day and searched it and found this site. This led me to realize that i could finally play the old Quest For Glory series. I never finished the third one, or even saw the fourth one. So anyways, I started a fighter character and when i got to the initiation ceremony, my computer bombs. Everytime. Now I've tried some of the sugeestions from a Qeust For Gl0ory Site. Such as clicking on Yesofu(?)'s arm when he throws the spear or trying to run,(unsuccesfully, i think) MoSlo to stop the comp from crashing when this happens but have had no luck. I would hate to have to stop playing this game because this series was always one of my favs. I guess i could start again as a Magic User or Thief, but since i am a Paladin at this point, i would obviously prefer not to. Any suggestions guys?
P.S.- I am also super pumped at the fact that they are making a VGA version of number 2. That episode is my fav (so far) and the versions of the two King's Quest were amazing. My only other question is King's Quest 3, will it happen? That was the first adventure game i ever played and it has a special nostalgic feeling for me. Anyways. This site rocks. Ill be sticking around for sure.

If you are running it through windows, i would suggest you get a program similar to moslo but more effective for windows based systems it is called Turbo. You can find it at shareware.com. Change your CPU speed to about 70-40% based on your procceser speed. I found that this is most effective. Make sure though that your save isnt in the Initiation or it wont do any good. If this does not work find a save game file that is saved right after the crash.

no problem. Id just like to add, there is a similar problem in QFG4 but i found that Turbo didnt work for me and i had to download a save game file that was saved after the error.

Man, im tired of waiting for the QFG4 upload. I think its safe to say its abandonware. I lost my anthology disk when i moved and am have QFG withdrawles. I cant find quest for glory games anywhere. I have tried Game Crazy, Game Stop, and a few local game providers in Las Vegas.
Does anyone know of anywhere to purchase a copy of the Anthology or even the games seperate.

I'm trying to import my paladin from qfg2 to qfg3. When I click on my save game though, I get an error meessage "Sorry. Could not find hero file." I had this same problem trying to import from 1 to 2. What seems to be the problem here?

Darken

I think there was a patch for that problem but i could be wrong. But if there isnt one try saving your game again in a different directory and try once more just to make sure.

Yep, that's the way you're supposed to act.

But, for some reason, even if it was quite obvious WHAT to do, the HOW part was quite tricky. So tricky that, in fact, I managed to reach the "final boss" with the three main classes (alas, no Paladin for me...) and I ended the game with a gran total of NONE, I really don't know why. Years later, deleting some old files, I stumbled upon QFG3 again, resumed one of my old saved games out of curiosity and... managed to end the game with the thief with almost no effort, doing the EXACT SAME THINGS I tried a couple of years before!. Maybe I've developed opposable thumbs only with puberty, go figure.

Anyway, i loved the series, a very good mix of point-and-click and RPG. The combat part was not great, but funny at times. The savannah-egyptian setting was quite unusual, too...there are very few games who.
Loved the humor (were the usual Sierra wicked death messages in there? I can't remember...but I'm sure there were!), the characters (Sanford and son as merchants? LOL!) and, obviously, the multi-path storyline.
Almost better than number IV, IMHO.

So, I finished my QFG3 Paladin, and am now stuck at the dreaded Error 52 in Quest For GLory 4. Is there any chance that someone could give me a site to download a game after the swamp/tomb, preferably as a Paladin? I think this game is the best of all the series, but i have never seen past this point. It would be much appreciated. I know this is a little off topic, but...

It is possible to pass this part. Here is what I read on a site called Dave's Tavern (the guy is obsessed withh QFG) http://davestavern.iwarp.com/files/quest_for_glory_iv.txt

Q: Error 52! Error 52! *cries*

A: Yep. This is the biggest problem with the CD version. It doesn't
account that modern computers are too fast to accomodate the program.
It occurs when you reach the Mad Monk's Tomb in the swamp. There are
supposed to be two text windows that pop up, but they pop up at the same
time (screwing up the game). Now, how to alleviate it? Well, you can
use a Turbo switch if your computer has one. You could try to download
MOSLO to slow down your processor. Also, if you have the QfG
Collection, there are save game files on the CD. There's a folder
called Error 52, which has save games near the beginning of the game
for each of the three starting classes with everything you need up to
that point, including the Bone Ritual and all the points you'd get from
going into the swamp.

Thanks for the tips. I downloaded CPUKiller to slow my comp down and then opened as many programs as I could when entering the swamp. Surprisingly, it worked, and I managed to finish the game with my character. Thanks Again.

I would suggest to wait for the remake of QfG2 from AGD Interactive (http://www.agdinteractive.com/). It is supposed to be due sometime this year. It may not be the original, but I am sure it will be awesome, judging from their past experiences with remaking KQ1 and KQ2.

I haven't taken to much time to look, but are they going to allow you to upload your character from qfg1 to qfg2 (vga remake by agd) ? Or is it going to be a fresh start...if so I'd just rather have the original, as I never minded the typing based questing.

When Yesufu throws his spear at the ring, I get the message "Oops, you did something we weren't expecting" and the game shuts down. Boy, this game surely got the biggest number of merchant/merchandise in one adv game. Unique desert setting. Somehow it felt more adventurish if not for the combat because I think hero stats had little effect for progressing. QfG 3's a good game but certainly not my fave of the series.

Hi everyone. Actually I must say, since "Ive played the game, that it;s really good, real fun. BUT. There are faults in the whoe series and I"m not sure how to tacke them. In number three for instance when I install the patch and restart the game, something happens and I can't effectively fight and I end up dying (as fighter). also the game crashes when as a fighter I reach the end of th first stage of initiation. It says ooops you did something we weren;t expecting. Whatever it was, it wasn;t necessary for the game, and what i only did was not giving the chief the horn, since the bug (of the chief constantly repating what are you here for) would not let me!

Can you help?

Also with Shadows of Darkness...the patch wouldnlt work, the objects at the tomb where the Chernivs are would still be cloned and the game would crash. It didn;t help to install any of the slowing down programes either. Any suggestions?

Would be grateful for help.

Other than that the whole series is extremely playable and I would have enjpyed it, if it wasn;t for those blasted bugs.

If you are having problems with speed-related bugs in Quest for Glory I to IV, may I pass on the suggestion that you try running them using DosBox (a number of the QFG fan sites suggest it)

available here by clicking the Programs link, listed under Utilities, in the menu on the left
or Main Site: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

I found it pretty good, and have loaded a QFG4 save from just before the Swamp and finished it (due to some quirk or other, on the final screen, I had to put Speed slider to max., Detail slider to min. to finish it, but that is a known bug).

Winterleaf
28-06-2006, 08:18 AM
Alternatively, you could try third party patches (though you will have to decide for yourself if you are comfortable with that / can trust the party in question)

I personally used files from: http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/

I tested some of these seperately to DosBox and was also able to finish QFG4 (exact same save game from before swamp) this way.

Which means... yeah, you lucky dudes... Quest For Glory 3 is downloadable again, effective immediately.

I was hoping someone could help me. I have the dinosaur horn, and I want to give it to the Laibon so that I can go through the Simbani initiation and become a warrior, but he will not let me give him the horn, and I'm not getting the "Tell about dinosaur" option when I click the mouth icon on myself. Is this some strange sort of glitch? I've played this game many times and I don't recall running into this problem before?

TheChosen

I havent played this games for a long time, but I think you dont have to give him the horn. You will give him the horn during the warrior initation, whenever that happens.

MandrakeMousse
20-06-2008, 12:20 PM
I played this game just a couple of years ago and I remember it well. The Laibon needs the horn from the dinosaur as proof that you are worthy to undertake the initiation to become a warrior. You need to give it to him in order to do the initiation. I've never run into this problem before when playing GFG III so I'm unsure how to proceed. I have earlier save games I could try loading and try again, but I am reluctant to back track because I've been training my Paladin quite a bit and I'd hate to lose my high stats.

ETA: I finally gave up trying to figure this out and restored an older save game. I think what happened is you only get one chance to give the Laibon the horn of the running dinosaur. After you use the dispel potion on the Leopardman prisoner, the next time you visit the Laibon he will tell you the bride price for the dispelled Leopardwoman, and tell you that only a warrior of the Simbani can marry the woman, he will then ask you for the horn. If you do not give him the horn at this visit, he will refuse you at further visits, so this is your only chance to take part in the Simbani warrior initiation. So unless you're ready to take part in the initiation, do not visit the Laibon after using the dispel potion. This is the mistake that I made, I visited the Laibon, but did not show him the horn because I wanted to increase my stats a bit more before taking part in the initiation. D'oh!

You need to install DOSBox, then run it, then run the game from inside it.

Thanks for the advice regarding the dinosaur horn. I'm currently playing this game for the first time ever. I've returned to the series when AGD released their VGA remake of QfG 2. I'm in the village, practicing spear throwing, bridge jumping and playing awari. Does somebody tell me I need the dinosaur horn for the initiation, or do I just have to KNOW automatically I need to go out and find it? Also, I don't yet have the dispel potion. Can I get it when I need it or should I get it beforehand?

Hey, all! I have a new item to bring to the table with this game!

I have come across a rare event/easter egg.

When you go to dispel the leopardman lady, there appears to be a random chance of you oogling her when after she finishes changing. Your eyes pop out of your head, as does your tongue, and a "boing-oing!" sound plays. I've beaten this game 5+ times and haven't come across this before!

I've been trying to reproduce it so I can get a screenshot, but alas, it's very rare and I've been unable to do so.

Kimchi: Did you try to setup the sound differently at all in the install.exe?

I've done it!

Aw, man, I've been trying to get that screen :(

By the by, has anyone else found Arne the Aardvark (Earth Pig)? I feel like he's a reference from something else, but I have no idea what. I've only ever seen him when camping out on the first day (you gotta have a fire though, and I think you need to make camp before midnight. Not sure if you gotta do the meerbat thing first).

Also, is it just me, or is this version pretty buggy? I thought you ALWAYS had to get initiated into the Simbani to buy your wife, but I'm playing as a wizard, so I guess I don't hafta? Thing is, I think I remember playing as a wizard before, and I did the whole initiation thing... Weird.

Oh, and I got Manu comin' after me and inviting me to the monkey village when I never saved him from the cage.
"Who are you and why are you calling me man-friend?!!?!?! And for that matter...why are you the only monkey that can TALK!?!?! O_O"

Anyways... seems kinda jerky/laggy in Dosbox (I can play it without Dosbox, but battles are really funky, I can barely move my mouse). Are there any specific changes I should make to Dosbox's settings to make it run a little smoother?

Thanks, anybody.

Three is very different from the other games in the series, but I still enjoy it. The game can be buggy, and I think it was no where near finsihed when released but it's still fun to play, though I do find it to be very easy in the combat phases.

Besides that I am replaying this with an imported character from QFG1. I cheated a little and made him a Paladin, even though I did not play QFG2, but if I had I would have become a Paladin anyway so it's okay.

I am not sure what point you are trying to get across here. I know the story pretty well, the only game I havn't finsihed more then once is GFQ4, not counting 5, mainly because I can't get a copy of it.

I had the earth pig in almost all my playing, so I don't know if there is some prerequisites for it or not. The only thing I know for sure is that you must be alone and in the savanna.

QFG3 was always quite buggy :p In fact, I always got problems when trying some unexpected things (like my thief/mage "fetching" the drum of magic, because my sneak sucked :p) or even when doing things like it was supposed to be (like, running in the Simbani initiation :p). But they are playable, maybe some messing with the details and the speed sliders help.

And, as far as I remember, the mage doesn't do the simbani initiation. Mainly, because he lacks the skills necessary for some (if not most) of the trials! Like throwing, for example :p

And the Manu thing never happened to me, so I don't know.

And yes, I think it is the QFG that I liked less, although I think that 5 is worse. Although I only played it once. But V is really different from the others in gameplay, it almost doesn't have the adventure part of the game, most of the quest are finished by killing them all :( But yes, 3 is not the best by far. IT is far too serious and the poor thief only has two moments to really shine :( East Fricana is no place for thieves :(

I just checked out a version from an old Anthology collection. Compared to this, it seems that this version is missing some sound files. For example, there should be a guitar riff whenever you smoke some pipe at the apothecary.

Can anyone confirm this?

I have to say though, calling it buggy when compared to the horror show of bugs that QFG 4 was on release is funny :)

Yes, the game is still good but isn't at the level of the fist two chapters.
The combat in particular is very bad and extremely easy.

Which file?
What are you trying to extract it with?
What happens when you try to extract it?
If there's an error message shown, post a screenshot of it.

Its the red GET IT! button on Quest for Glory III - Wages of War Download page, trying to extract it with 7-zip. When I try two different ways to extract it two different boxes show up. Is the file only supposed to be 1.5mb?

DarthHelmet86

The zip file is 7.2mb to download. I just downloaded it and unzipped it using 7zip no problems at all. Since your file is not that large did you stop the download or for any reason lose connection to the download server? Try downloading it again and keep an eye on how much is downloading, it should not finish till 7.2mb.

Hello! Thanks for making this game available, Quest for Glory is quickly becoming one of my favorite Sierra series next to Space Quest.

I have a quick question - Whenever I start a new character all his stats and skills are already boosted to 100 or less. When I import a character from an earlier QFG game, only some of his stats are boosted.
I assume this is a side effect of the cracking used to get this game uploaded here.

Is this normal, and is there a way to start a character with more "normal" stats?

Don't get me wrong, sometimes it's fun to steamroll through the game with high stats, but I like challenges and would like to play the game the way it was meant to be played. =P

I'm encountering the same problem with the Quest for Glory 4 game available here, where stats are boosted up to 200 or less whether I make a new character or import one.

DarthHelmet86
16-02-2012, 02:39 AM
When you start a new game in 2/3/4 the stats for that class will be boosted to the max of the last game, 1 is 100, 2 is 200, 3 is 300 and 4 is 400. When you import a character it leaves the stats as they were if it is from the last game. If you are importing from a game that is not the one just before it, i.e. taking a character who only completed 1 and you import to 4 it will boost the stats up to 300 by pretty much adding 200 to any of the skills with points in it.

Either way doesn't matter since you will still need to remax the stats out anyway and neither is any more challenging. It isn't high stats to be starting out with the starting stats.

16-02-2012, 02:53 AM
I was starting to wonder if that was the case, thanks for clearing that up!

I guess I spent so much time playing both versions of QFG 1 that I assumed the other games in the series followed the same stat system. :headslap: Sorry about that.

DarthHelmet86
16-02-2012, 03:05 AM
The games are meant to be the one Hero becoming a proper Hero, each game he becomes better and better learning as he goes. But each game still has a 100 skill point range, so they really are the same as the first game in that sense...except you could have some skills below the starting amount if you didn't use them that much in the last game. I find that is normally only for off class skills, magic for a fighter and the like.

Capo
16-02-2012, 04:30 PM
There is not really need to max out every stats, play it without think too much about the stat system :hello:

Help, I'm stuck playing as a wizard!

The leopard in the cage was dispelled. The Laibon told me the bride price. I went to Tarna to buy the items he requested.

Well, now I want them to give the Laibon, but the guard won't let me enter. So I tried to give the gifts to the girl in the cage, but the other guard over there won't allow me to give her a dagger.
It's been a long time that I played QfG3 as warrior, who just had to do the initiation ritual race against Yesufu. But I'm wizard now, what do I have to do to get the girl pls?

Panthro
12-03-2012, 08:52 PM
From what I remember (it's been a while since I last played QFG3), I think there are certain days where you won't be allowed to see the Laibon. Try waiting a day or two (get some skills up, or explore some more).

Panthro

My last run through Qfg1-4, I did a wizard run (my fave class). Maxed out every spell in QFG1, and it makes things SO much easier later on. If you grind a bit in QFG2 as well, it makes 3&4 pretty easy.

I never bothered trying this before, because most quest-based uses of magic need less than 100 skill. The extra skill does make a lot of difference when playing Erasmus and Aziza at their magic games too.

DarthHelmet86
15-03-2012, 02:51 AM
The extra grinding of the spells is one thing I don't look forward too, but playing a Wizard all the way though should be fun.

First I'm going to answer, then I'm going to ask.

First, my answer, to the guy who had problems getting into the Laibon's hut with the horn:

Drop the horn, leave the screen with the huts and come back, then you can enter. Do so, talk to the Laibon until he kicks you out, then reenter, greet him, ask him everything (should be 2 options and no Goodbye option) then simply walk out of the hut. Now go kill another dino and get its horn, go back to the village and you should be able to get in now. I know the guy's not here anymore after 4 YEARS, and he's already left anyway, but I finally know, so I decided to share.

Now for my question:

So after winning the initiation, I've gotten the drum, but when I try to go back into the Laibon's hut to give him the bride price, I'm denied entry. Doesn't matter how long I wait, or seemingly what I drop, I'm not allowed entry. So what do I do? I'm using DosBox .74, 13K cycles (tried turning them down to 3K, no dice), and I have 282 points (for some reason, didn't get the expected 10 for winning or 3 for talking about the initiation with Uhura after). Any help would be appreciated!

I’ve never played this game, but it is on my list of favorites.

One very funny thing I remember is that my brother was able to use the Game Wizard for this game. But... the Lioness (I do not remember her name) noticed that the character had become very powerful...

And another thing, the character was beginning to lose energy (HP?) mysteriously. The solution? To sleep! So if the character did not rest, he ran the risk of dying. As soon as the game started, the character woke up with his left foot. Maybe it is a punishment of the game for those who try to use cheats...

Hello everyone! Guys, I need your help.
According to the walkthrough, there should be a moment in the game when the survivor of the peace mission to the Leopardmen will visit the inn. Whatever I do, he doesn't show up. Are there any actions that trigger this?
Thanks beforehand.

Quest for Glory 3 - Wages of War remains a standout in the classic adventure-RPG genre. The African-inspired setting, strong storyline, and blend of puzzles with real-time combat make it unique even today. The transition to a more visual point-and-click interface is a welcome improvement from the earlier text-based commands.

Tips & Tricks:

Visit the Simbani village often; decisions there shape your ending.

Use the “Practice” option to boost combat skills daily.

Don’t overlook magical training, even if you're not a Wizard class.

Save before key dialogues—they can impact alliances.

Interestingly, I’ve been replaying the game on a retro handheld while tracking my play sessions using my smart watch ultra (https://pktechreviews.com/smart-watches/)—a fun mix of old-school gaming and modern tech! Anyone else blending classic games with today’s gadgets?

Share your tips, memories, or favorite character moments from Wages of War below!
