Great game, was wondering when it would be on site after I requested it long ago. Now Abandonia just needs Lords of the Realm 2.

Really fun, except for the part where I suck.

I'm gonna keep trying to figure out how to NOT have a revolt two turns in. In the meantime, any :help: would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi, wicked game, im loving it so far but seem to be struggling

Could anyone tell me why i can't seem to make any weapons or build my castle:
-i have wood and iron and men working as armourers who should be building spears, but alas! no spears are born of my craftmens' hands!
-also i seem to have a fair bit of stone and wood going on the red bars, but the builder's say they need more materials to make my castle (its smallish: 23 stone, 14 wood)

Perhaps I've missed something? :help:

aha! Ive just realised, the red bars next to the occupations represent your progress towards producing one unit of that resource - I thought they showed how many units you had (but wondered why there was no exact number given  ) anyway, don't worry about my query above

Back to forging my mighty realm :)

Terrible shame they took the title away from the original designers for LotR3, who turned it into a typical RTS clone. But that only reinforces the point: brand names don't matter. What matters are the people who make the brand names, and change from time to time.

Yeah, I own this one too. I loved it then, love it now. But this version has more multimedia....hmm?

As far as stopping revolts-----you need to have a health grain economy to feed your ppl lots. A massive grain economy allows for big castle and big army! = conquer

This is a VERY underrated game - my brother got hooked on it 7 years ago when he played it on my PC and still plays it. Damn fine game, although combat can be a bit silly.

This is a GREAT game! <3 I've got the CD version and have had it since it came out way back in... way back I guess :ok: It's great, and I'm glad to see Abandonia are finally hosting it! I have 2 & 3, and they are equally awesome. Maybe not so much 3... It's to confusing *h8 4 realtimeness* Thanks Abandonia for reminding me that I have this game, because I am off to play it now!

Yes, 3 will anger some although I personally liked it.

It was quite different, all of the regions were for one thing, so you had to sort of plan your attacks at one kind of province (there were loads of them) when resources were running low.

The combat was also quite good, with a knight bringing along a retinue of different soldiers etc. with him. You could also combine several knights' forces to make some kind of super-army.

Right, new question:
How do I put new fields under the plow - I always seem to start with most of my fields unused and can't seem to see how to put them to productive use. Do the serfs do it somehow?

ANother game that got me hooked for months. The battle system in the second part is one of the best I've ever seen! Much more realistic than most games employ. Enjoy!

sorry guys, i' ve been out of town for the weekend and i missed this thread from the begining. any way, even not being an "expert" (i just wrote some sort of review), let me see if i can help some of you :sneaky: :

Nature Boy: yes, thats exactly what serfs do; and when some of of fields are hit by flood or drought, some extra-serfs will increase the speed on recovering them.

also pay attention to miners, quarryers, forresters and armourers, as they follow a learning curve, which means in the first turns they skills are very poor. and another thing, if you un-assign them even for one season, they will lose what they previously learned...

enjoy it and if you have more questions, post them :ok:

I've had this game for years and have never been able to place flags in castle design. All my castle designs have to be based on one of the defaults with the flag left alone. Is the problem just with my version?

well, where are you trying to place your flag?

i ask this because there are only three kinds of places where you can put it: keeps, gatehouses or towers.

the flag represents some sort of "headquaters" inside your castle, which means you can (and need) to place just one. also i advise you to place it in a keep, surroudend by walls and moat, and with one single gatehouse. that will make your castle harder to be conquer by your enemies. :Titan:

You need to have some cattle/sheep in order to breed more.

The game is rather complex on economy level, it will take a while to figure everything out (I've read my manual like 8 time over and it did not help much).

Great game :ok: !
But I was wondering, if you multiplay this game using one computer, is it possible to form an aliance with other human players? I ask this because me and my brother can't seem to get it done, but we really want to work together to wipe out all of the computer players.

Nope, the alliance offers apply only to computer players.
You two can work together, though.

Thanks Shrek for a great game. Exactly as you said in the review, after spend 2 days playing my first game, I owned 12 counties and don't want to play anymore. All I need is to move the armies to siege the enemies' towers, then wait till they are out of food, while fending off other arising armies but it is too much anyway.

I will try to restart with harder settings, thinking it will be more challenging.

well the version presented here is the DOS version;

maybe there are some diferences between the DOS version and the Windows one.

I remember playing the DOS version of "pirates! gold" a couple of years ago and later i tryed the Windows version and there were some diferences - like controling the ships in a battle was much harder.

BTW, does your version have any kind of manual for this game (i think it doesn' t your you wouldn' t be posting these questions  but i just had to ask :max: )

How I can keep the morale of troops on fair or average ?

The Fifth Horseman
11-07-2005, 12:35 PM
1. Recruit them from a country with high morale. I usually don't recruit troops from those under 30 morale, and prefer to have 40 morale and a merchant (after I recruit, I buy ale for extra morale up).

2. Have them win a few battles. Note that you can fight to break your enemy, not kill them - this won me a few seemingly hopeless struggles.

also, keep them feed..... if you put an army in a county where the amount of food is short - remember 10 ppl will eat 1 unit of food, even in an army - they will starve, and starvation is a very good motive to low their morale.

Wool is actually the only good that is not directly useful to you. However, you can sell it to merchants for a fair sum.

WARNING! BUG/CHEAT - Cover your eyes if you don't want to see it.

Here's a bug/cheat I stumbled on years ago when I first played this game.

1. Build a castle with one small tower for the flag, one wall, one small hall/house and one moat.
2. Once the castle is built, go and redesign it and remove everything but the tower with the flag on it.
3. Assign a few builders to it and wait one turn.
4. Now destroy the whole castle.
5. Voila! You'll have an insane amount of wood and stone. Something like 65000+.

Notes: I'm not sure if the moat is needed, though I know the cheat works with it. I'm not sure if you have to assign builders to the redesigned castle, but I always have. Careful with how much wood or stone you sell at once, as selling too much will mess up the amount of gold you have. I've gotten "," gold before. Enjoy. :)

How the hell do I stop people from migrating into my county. I've got over 5000 inhabitants in Gwynedd and they grow all the time. Food supplies are running critical. I have 6 crop fields, lots of cattle, but this just isn't enough!
How would I even think of raising an army in such condition?

Ok, i found out that raising a lot of diary solves the problem. It's even possible to feed county's inhabitants purely with food generated by cows and lambs.

In this game, cows are the best thing to put on your fields. There are too many factors that reduce grain growth, while cows are pretty stable. This is the opposite of Lords of the Realm 2, in which cows were nerfed badly.

This game is pretty fun when you're struggling to feed your people, but once you take over half the map, it gets pretty boring. I didn't need to make very many weapons - I mostly used mercenaries. England is practically fully occupied by my hired Moors and Spaniards in my current game.

lowlylowlycook
27-08-2006, 04:31 AM
This is surely a classic stratagy game, as any game including both cows and sheep is bound to be. Just a few hint to any new players. It seems to me that the places you conquer are almost always is desperate straights as far as food on hand goes so you might want to wait until there is a merchant at the place you plan to take over. That way you can buy some food to save the peasants from starvation.

G'day. The game says that it can be run using windows XP, but when i extract it and double click on lords.exe i get a picture of several men lined up, all with trumpets (not really trumpets, those long brass intrsuments) and these instruments all pointed downwards. Nothing else happens, i just get this screen. I've also tried going into setup.exe (or whatever it it), and i get a screen that tells me that it will now set up (in a LOTR box style). It says to press return to continue, but pressing enter does nothing... either does any other key.
Any directions would be most appreciated

That a game ran at one person's XP system does not mean it will at anothers.
I suggest you use DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net) instead. You can download it here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1).
If you have any problems with it, have a look at the official FAQ (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php) on the DosBox site.

Still incredibly addictive, the economy depth was quite good for its time. Also fertility of the land actually played a part !

Chances are, if you download it from Abandonia. IT'S ALREADY INSTALLED.

The game comes in a zip file, there is no need to install it, the extracted files are the required game files, there is usually never a need to use a game's setup either. JUST RUN IT VIA THE EXECUTABLE, through DosBox or whatever your using to run the games.

The Fifth Horseman

Happiness usually increases by 1 per season. Higher than normal food rations can get it to rise faster (and help population growth). Some random events can decrease it or raise it as well.
You can also buy ale from the merchants to increase the happiness of people in the specific County.

This was one of the first games I had when I was given my PC. You will find its far better to recruit Mercs rather then wait to raise an army of your own. Also you don't need to capture all the provinces to win only destroy your opponents.

If I recall the knight is the hardest person to fight against, and the countess is rather vicious.

Didn't LotR have some kind of controversy when it was released? Maybe it was another game, or LotR2?

I was thinking there was a Sierra/Impressions fantasy RTS game that came out with tons of bugs, and they eventually had to come out with an SE (Special Edition) version of the game... but made everyone pay for it? It must not have been this game, but does anyone know which game I'm talking about?

And no, I don't mean Outpost!

Well, until I can get my account fully registered (bug) and get a scanner on hand, I'll just post up the short stats on the different soldiers.
Direct quote from reference card.

__________________________________________________ ___
Unit - Attack - Defense
Peasant - 1 - 0
Spear - 2 - 2
Archer - 1 - 0
Sword - 3 - 2
Mace - 3 - 1
Crossbow - 1 - 0
Axe - 4 - 1
Knight - 4 - 4

Notes:
1) The Different abilities of unit types are reflected in wages paid to maintain them after an army is raised.
2) When not in hand-to-hand combat, Archers and Crossbows are capable of ranged attacks. Archers can fire farther than Crossbows, while Crossbows inflict more damage.
__________________________________________________ ________

Hope this helps those that have been wondering. Guessing on the Crossbow and Archer classes that damage is greater than listed for range attack with Crossbow being higher. Guessing this is just melee counting.

*EDIT*
Replacement docs is down for awhile now with no update as to when it'll come back. Will check when it's back up and see if it's the complete manual (maps, reference cards, ect.). Just hope this helps those in need currently.

I'm fairly sure the stocks do replenish, but I believe they are replenished with food from the county the castle is built in.

Since the installation of Lords of the Realm 2 always was a bit of the pain in the ass I've found something useful for you.

It's an installer for Windows (dunno if it works with Vista and 7, XP Pro 32 is fine)

In my case the main cd is somewhat broken (it's 14/15 years old after all). But you can install the game from the Siege Pack CD as well. To play the main campaign from the original game, you need to insert the original cd or an image, though.

The installer takes care of the ini which was stored in the C:\Windows folder b4 and which you had to edit to get the game running. It's now stored in the install folder of the game.

Savegames are stored in your User Profile: C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Applications\Sierra\Lords of the Realm 2\

I don't run this game in win95 compatibility mode. Just 640x480 and visual designs deactivated. It runs very stable w/o any problems. :D

Isn't this topic about the first game of the series (http://www.mobygames.com/game/lords-of-the-realm)?

well, in the Royal Edition both of the games are included anyways...

and since I didn't find an adequate thread for Lords of the Realms 2 and also didn't want to start a new one...

Well, I don't wanna be a bore and all, but I'd suppose posting this in the Troubleshooting section (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=2661) (as a separate thread maybe) would make it more likely for the people who actually need this solution to find it :)

well, thx MrFlibble for pointing out that there already was a thread. I have to admit that I just browsed until the end of page 2 of the search results. And since I read "2005" there and wasn't allowed to post in other threads, too, I thought I post it here in this one.

Anyways, I posted my answer in the thread you've suggested to me and enhanced it with a bit more info.

It'd be nice if a moderator could delete my last posts here in this thread since it's about "Lords of the Realm" and not for the sequel to it.

Just to keep things organized you know. not that someone gets OCD breakdowns here or something

just kidding ^^

"Access denied"? All there is is a "buy it" button that will take you to where you can buy this game, because we can't make a download available if it's for sale elsewhere (that is, not abandoned).

Ooh I had no idea you could click on those icons and they produced this error. Apparently they're supposed to take you to a webpage with links to DOSBox, ScummVM, etc. Thanks for noticing.

Hmm at the hardest levels you are battling for survival. All abandoned lands and there is not enough cattles. The peasants have to eat sheep for breakfast

I play the game only EXPERT in economy as well war, and all my people are vegetarian never eat cow or sheep. And win in 2 days. It is not so difficult just do not make mistakes. Some starting lords are easier and some even more difficult accroding to geografical advantages.

I have devided counties for specific purposes, some are mostly for sheeps to get cash, some are mostly for large quantity of grains than distributing where is army or need, some for iron and some for weapons, BUT all countties have its own milk supply. The point is that by seasons passing the people get skilled in their work so it is good to not reasigne them.
