Pirates! Gold is only as short as you make it, I've had really long games before, just select proficency at medicine as your skill anddon't retire :D

i think monkey island is a great game with pirates. altough it's a adventure with no RPG elements. but swordfighting is cool. :ok:

Not the new Pirates of teh caribean!!! Bought that...what a waste, pretty much no fun at all, stupid AI (got stuck behind an NPC in a cave...so I couldn't continue in the game any more at all) and there are tons of graphics bugs, particularily with the shipe, like he said try Monkey Island, not dl-able, but it sells pretty cheap now anyways.

Actually, there is a pretty big mod community dedicated to PoTC and they already have released a huge collection of small mods which improve, fix and extend the game in quite of ways, making it actually really fun.

Check piratesahoy.net if you're interested...definitely worth a try, of course it won't change the overall game mechanics so if you didn't like them this won't help either.

Do you know Corsairs and Corsairs II? I think that's the name in English, because I only played the Portuguese version.

You can play Patrician II/III as a pirate, or engage in piratical activities while keeping a nice front as a merchant. I don't know if this feature is part of the original Patrician, however.

ACtualy Taipan was a succesful game at the time. It came before Sid's Pirates and it was a good game IMO. It was released for a number of systems, I think all of that time, like Commoder 64, Amiga, Atari series, Amstrad, Spectrum and though I do not know I presume also for the PC.

You could try Tortuga. Far from the greatest game ever made, but fair enough if you just get bored enough.

I've enjoyed Cutthroats a great deal, although it is extremely buggy even when patched. Port Royale 2 is good, although like Patrician games it is centered more on the economy then piracy.

Or maybe you could try Puzzle Pirates?

Have you got any pirate memory games, suitable for ages 5 to 8?
