I remember TheVoid wanting to add this game a long time ago, but he was stuck with the controls. I tried to help him by translating the controls from a Russian site, but we couldn't get the plot-line or anything togeter.

It's nice to see this game updated - it's a fun game once you get the hang of it! :ok:

I actually knew the controls, the problem was getting to know the plot-line a bit more. ;) Too bad I wasn't able to endure with it and write a review myself, but once again I promise I'll be more active when my exams have finished - I can hint I got a big surprise in progress :cheers:

I can't believe you found this game!!!!!

I remember at that time I was waiting for my birthday because my parents had promised me that they would buy me a Gameboy. And then I saw a review of Metal Mutant in a comic. I was amazed!!!! Unfortunately my parents could not afford to buy me a PC, so I had to wait one more year to have the PC (a 386DX 40MHz) and buy that game.

So, I come to this question: Is this version the full game? I don't have the original anymore but I remember very clearly that the game was in two 700KB disks. I see that this one is only 400KB.

Has anyone finished this version?


Hmmmm, I downloaded the file but for some reason the game cannot run in DOSBOX (v0.63). I try the metal.exe, but after the text messages nothing happens.

What are the proper settings in dosbox to run this game?

All I get are the text intros, then cga-vga choice and screen goes black.

Panther_512, MrL: Some games that don't work in 0.63 work right in 0.61,. Install Dosbox 0.61 separately and try running the game through it. Should work.

I didn't have any trouble whatsoever running the game in DosBox :blink:
That means that NO special settings were used.
I'm not much of a tech wizz, I'm affraid, but I'll try (accent on try) to look into this.

EDIT:Oh wait, The_Fifth_Horseman already posted what might be the answer. Hope this works for you!

I am wondering if someone is actually playing this game...
I am and I have found that there is a security code I don't have! After finishing the elevator part (by killing the boss) you are asked to provide a password. This is a word on the back of the original box (you are given the question more or less like "What is the third word in the second line on the back of the box?").
After three attempts you can go on... but you loose almost all your abilities. This means that you are unable to complete more than a couple of screens...
And now I am stuck... Can anyone help me?

Sorry for the double entry but, linked to the problem mentioned above, I have found out that this version is not cracked.
There is an update (of two of the files) available on the net that does the trick.
I don't know how to upload this here but if you (are able to) reach the point where the password is needed make a search or contact me.

the word the computer asked for was "metal", unless it has more than one word to ask for. it was funny cus this was my first guess and it worked! me and my bro used to rinse this game when we were a lot younger, we had a copy which always crashed part way through. i downloaded a rom of it and it still crashes in the same place! i hope this one doesn't! cheers, Az

First post here (though I know Marko River and frequently visit this site), I just couldn't left unanswered the topic on one of my favourite games. So, the answer:

I won't give you answer just like that. Go through all the screens, make the map of junctions and valves, (they are connected through screens), and you'll have a clue of what should you do, at least after a little examination...

Becaus in when you kill the robot in Level 0(I talk the "ultimate" robot, I dont remember the name right now)with the dino, on the other side of the elevator there is a "think"
and when you are up to the "think" its aske you to whrite some codes from the book of the metal mutant.

It is the full version. I think those are the old protection codes (just try anything - I'm quite sure the game is hacked).

It is a great game, of my favorites in which to Robots one talks about. He is very addictive, since the 3 personages have different arms and the graphs and music help to create a very good atmosphere. Personally it had described with 4 or 5.

The only thing that seemed to me too complicated is in the screen of the valves (I believe that they were 7, if my memory serves me right)

You need to go to the terminal at the end of Level 4. and activate the Stomach chamber

Then when you go to meet him at L0 (left hand side) use the shield and use the insect to fly behind him and activate the switch to the top left of the wall.

Here are also come of the codes needed to get past the terminal that asks for the passwords

I'm currently completely stuck at the 3rd Pyrimid. I just cant seem to get closer to that "thing" to shoot it under its arm at its heart. The second pyrimid is almost way too easy, though the first one with that sound listening idea is a real pain in the rear end... no way you can finish the game with out sound.. Playing on the pc system speaker is just a pain!

Hi all,
thank for codes you posted in this forum! I solved the pipes riddle, then I reached a second door. This door can be opened using a lever placed at the other side of the door. The only way to move this lever is the "fly" that exits from the dino robot.
After some HOURS :yawn: , I couldn't make the fly pass through the pipes to reach the other side.
There is no way I can do it.
Perhaps I'm missing something... a module to see through pipes?

Let me make a post which will make unhappy two persons at once:

billgates: There is no x-ray-vision-module; you just have to fly through blindly. It can be helpful to listen carefully, since you hear when you hit something. I did not find this so difficult, so I am pretty sure you have already solved the riddle before reading this post.

gbnogkfs: The way to kill the whip-guy is the old-fashioned brutal force... again there is no special kill-the-whip-robot-module. I don't remember precisely but the procedure is immediate: go as close as you can and hit hard - just be careful not to be pushed too far away since it can be painful.

I've found codes for a Computer in Metal Mutant.
They are:

After you kill the boss you have open way to get to the lowest level. Its a kind of factory or sometning when you meet zombies. In one of factorys rooms there is a flying something that i cant kill. Does anybody know howto kill this flying something?

hi just got started with the game.. its pretty cool..

quickie guide how to get started (what I went through). The version for download just plain sucks... I found a much better one metal.zip elsewhere, and also metmut.zip... these fixed that very very slow animation problem and dont have that stupid Joker reference.

F1 F2 F3 to change robots
shift+up, pgup, right, pgdwn, down, end, left, home
does function, depending on robot time.

ex: shift+right with dino does head a bite.

first enemy - tank bullets or cybork claw
green lizards - 2-3 dino bites works well
flying lizard - cyborg blade works good.. just get too close so they cant attack.
enemy tanks - use tank bullets...
bee hives - tank bullets aimed up.. dino fire breath for the wasps.

now im stuck at what seems to be the end of the swamp, where its two level, and there is enemy tank patroling at the top, and a eye/door thingie at bottom that only shoots once you start attacking it.

yay.. i made a lot of progress..
got to the elevator
went through level1 through the caves and got the bug thing
went through level2 and level3 and got the shields
went through level4 and opened the door to level0 left
level0 left and big BAD tall cyborg dude goes down the hole thanks to the little bee thingie from dyno.

but, now when need to enter word 4 on line 4 or similar, I cant continue.. I used the codes provided in this forum thread, it asks me to confirm but nothing happens after that.

maybe I dont have the full version

regarding your :sos:

the fish swiming back and forth, you have to jump on it as cyborg as its moving away.. then, when you get near the platform jump off.

other places could get stuck:
there is a big hole swamp, where you have to walk in until almost head is submerged as cyborg, and jump across.

bees:
use dyno fire breath on them, and shoot them as tank

quicksand:
dont worry the gap is too big to jump across, jump in, and as you start siniking use cyborg grappling hook.

hover robots going back and forth (after fish):
shoot in tank mode when they have their back turned.. the one at the end of the top platform, is luck of the draw.. might have to reaload save game several times to get it right before he shoots missle at you

eye on bottom platform:
once you get that "piece" you can shoot missle in tank mode.

big saw robots:
forget about tank, you need to use cyborg axe or fork. usually takes 6-8 hits.

mohawk robot:
before you go to elevator there is computer terminal where you get "radar" update for tank. use it WHEN IN ELEVATOR, to find out where mohawk robot dude is to avoid him.

caves:
level 1 on elevator, jump past lasers, shoot open the eye thingie, and use grappling hook to get up into caves. I used dyno bite and tail fire (while walking backwards) to take care of the spiders. For the bats you can use diny breath or cyborg axe. There are also missle thingies which you need to shoot with tank or use tank missle. At first intersection dont take the top path.. its just endless stream of spiders. At the end there is rocks blocking path.. blast them with tank missle, take care of bats, and you're home free.. there is savepoint soon ahead.

the laser door:
level 3 has that crazy lazer beams going left/right. Use your new dyno bee to fly between lasers and hit the switch to open door. Thereafterwards you get dyno shields

flying boots:
on 4th level, jump into that boot, and press fire (shift) rapidly while steering right. If you press shift too quickly you will rise too fast into lasers above. If too slowly, you will fall into lasers below. On following screens, use grappling hook, and tank mode to take care of the flying thingies. At the end you have to open the "stomac" room, or something like that. Also make sure teleporter is on.

level0:
ok you got alls the gear, so head on to level0 and go LEFT. immediately activate dino shields, activate dino bee, and fly it to the switch.. now just sit back and wait about a minute.

I'll try to make something once I get through the game myself... LOL

once you enter the right word on level 0, after taking out the boomerang throwing mohawk robot, you gain access to subterenean. its like a factory or something.

zombies: use cybork blade or fork

watchout for fire pits.. jump over them

there is a section where there is switch in upper left corner of screen.. fly the dino bee there and you will get the psyco wave ability for dino.

flying space ships that shoot psycho waves.. shoot psycho waves back!! you need to shoot them quickly though.

ok you eventually get to a save point.. hooray! Well, not really.. hard stuff coming up.

low rocket launcher: walk cybork forward jump.. switch to dino just as it fires next missle, and bite.
done correctly, 0 damage.

next room you need to get onto the flip in the middle and get the switch with dino bee.

when you get compacted and are a tiny can, just walk continuously back and forth to get minimal damage.

ok you got to the "elevators" (level 1, 3, 2, and say no to all 3 to continue on level0)

on level 1, there is a mean gravedigger.. cyborg blade him. The whip robot.. get in real close and cyborg blade or fork. It takes 12 or so hits. Most importantly, when shoved back, move back in, and continue hacking.. when you're done you will have very little health.. I haven't figured out better way.

on all the levels there are various other monsters, and all these valves.. haven't figures out which to turn on/off... the one at the end of level1 makes you explode!

oK, after many many tries, I finally made it through the pipes.
Start on level1 and take out the grave digger (cyborg blade) and whip robot (cyborg blade). Hopefully you still have half your health left!

leave all the level1 gates as they are for now.
go back to basement and go to level 3. take out the gravedigger and the flying shark. close the first valve, open the second.

go back to basement and go to level 2. take out the gravedigger. close both the first and second valve.

go back to basement, take out that flying psycho saucer with dino psycho eye, and open first valve, and close second.

now go back to level1 and close the first, and open the second.

here is gates initial setup:
3 O C
2 C O
1 C C
0 C O

and here is what you need:
3 C O
2 C C
1 C O
0 O C

make sure to close both level2 valves, and the first level1 valve before opening any others!!

next screen you have to fly your dino bee through the pipework (in the blind) to get to opposite end and flip the switch. having headphones to hear the bee hit a wall helps immensely.

a few more flying sharks, and you're at the teleporter and the new "purple world". Your health is probably virutally 0 so its good there is a save point here.

Some "yoga" sends you on quest through 5 pyramids.
The music one is tought, even with headphones. Not sure if the melodies are random, but here are the ones I've come across so far:
2 5 7 6 7, 6 7 6 2 6, 4 2 5 7 1 and 7 6 4 4 6
teleporter guardian robot with axe is easy.. just get in and cyborg blade it 4-5 times.

2nd pyramid you get on teleporter and a mirror image of you shows up. I used dyno bite. it worked well. DONT try tank missle.. you will blow BOTH yourself up. The teleporter guardian here causes lots of damage. get in quick and dyno bite or cyborg blade it.

Now, I'm stuck in the 3rd pyramid. Yoga asks if I like termiites... hmmm... never really tasted them, but I hate that giant bug.

we're both stuck in the same spot now.. I think we are the further into the game of anybody ;)

The sound fades in and out and its pretty poor.. perhaps my system is too weak: I'm running this game with Athlon64 @2.5Ghz and 2GB of Windbond BH5 @ 240Mh 2-2-2-5. I thinks it a little overkill for this game ;)

listen really carefully, so you lose very little health on the music puzzle. First guardian which pushes you away, step in and back out, and wait till it does the repeated shoving move. Then get in there and cyborg blade it. Mirror puzzle you lose no health. And the 2nd guardian just walk in close fast and 1 cyborg blade does the trick.

Now, if you have about half the health, you stand a chance against the termite. Walk in as cyborg, jump up close, immediately switch to tank as it tries to claw you, and start shootin diagonally up at the heart. YOU MUST BE POSITIONED AS CLOSE TO IT AS POSSIBLE TO HIT IT. Otherwise the bullets will fly close by but miss.

Yay, I passed the termite. 3rd guardian has a shield. Surprisingly easy. Use same tactic as for 1st guardian. Immediately if you see the sword come up, step back. Rinse and repeat. Ok, here it is afterwards:

Now, the 4th pyramid is a ghost you have to defeat. I got like 0.001 health left so didn't get far. Cybrog blade/fork doesnt hurt it. But, bullets do. Quickly move around in tank, and try to shoot it. You will need at least 3 direct shots. Becareful if it materializes right over you. Switch to cyborg and jump away.

Just finished this game this morning.. it was hell..

nevermind the music is scratchy, half the time, no sound comes out at all. I got really lucky a few times and solved it within 2-3 guesses.

1st guardian.. I hate it so much.. just as you're about to cyborg blade it, it pushes you away.. I got lucky this time.

mirror image.. easy.. use dino bite.
2nd guardian use dino shield and approach closer, and then while its still firing, switching to cyorg and blade it.

Oh the termite. you MUST get up as close as possible, or its breath will hurt you. only fire tank diagonaly when you're right up close.
3rd guardian is a joke. get up close next to it. if it pulls sword up, take a step back. if it lets down the shield, cyborg blade and take a step back.

The ghost.. OMG.. what a pain. Found best strategy is to jump to the right side of the room, switching to tank, and whenever the ghost is appearing, move backwards, to avoid its kicks/blows. when its at missle height level, shoot missle and puff its gone. And the 4th last guardian, you have to get the timing of the dino hypno eyes right. If you press keyboard too fast, dino will hypno eye slower. Need to get optimal rhythm.

FINALLY A SAVE POINT. I thought I would go insane with that music puzzle. AROD's guardian is a joke. Alternate dino shields and approach, until you are as close as possible. Then do the cyborg lighting move. Yay, the last upgrade.. hyper-speed... you definetly need it. Little icons show up of the moves you're supposed to do. Do them very quickly, or else AROD kills you with missles. The moves are:

DINO-FIRE
DINO-HYPNO-EYE
DINO-BITE
DINO-SHIELDS (you can rest in this state for a while, it pauses AROD. When turning off shields, change robot form... dont walk forwards.. it will prevent you in future from doing cyborg jump!)
DINO-BEE (looks like insect.. also pauses AROD)

CYBORG LIGHTNING
CYBORG FORK
CYBORG BLADE
CYBORG JUMP
CYBORG GRAPPLING HOOK (looks like a T)

TANK BULLET
TANK MISSLE
TANK RADAR (looks like a bubble)

when you do them all quickly enough you pass the game!!

Ok friends i had this game and i terminated when i was 10 in a disk and back then was working every zip file i had from the internet i been stuck in 3 level with the pipes im asking from the other who are in 3lvl pyramid and they say they are far from the others:pp after that pyramid3 YOU will meet arod 7 if i remember him correctly he will be a giant skull and he will have a hole witch gonna change in every action >>>example if he has a picture of the tridend shift...3 then you must do that and so going on by finishing quickly every action of the 3 robots you have and then he explodes and you are sitting in his throne holding his skull and looking at it .....BUT I MUST ASK HOW DID YOU PASS THE LVL3 WITH THE FIRES THE GAME IS GLOYCING IN THE FIRST ROOM !!!!!!!! This was the first game I ever knew. I found it quite interesting, but without Walkthrough, you did not know what to do to continue playing. The curious thing is that the robot was a kind of triple changer similar to the Transformers.

Looking at the earlier posts above, it seems that the game is more complex than I imagined. :o

After many years, I had forgotten the name of this game and fortunately the Eagle of Fire (aka Phoenix) answered my question.
