View Full Version : Riddle
I've wanted to find the answer to this riddle from "Crimson Crown", for 5 years:
I am, I'm not. I visit young and old,
Some I make timid and some I make bold,
Unwise is the one who pokes fun at me.
Beware, for I am a shadow of thee.
could someone :help: me?

or fear... that riddle can have alot of answers
I am and Idiot! 5 years...
HOTU has the walktrough (I got it from a friend, as a part of his apple ROM collection, so I've never been on HOTU page of this game before, and google turns up empty).
it's dream.
now, can anyone tell me how do dreams make people timid, and how are they our shadows? :ranting:
Маразм кепчал!
EDIT: fear, how interesting for you to mentoin it, because it's an answer to a more logical riddle:
Hands I do not have, yet I grasp so tight.
I love darkness, my enemy is light.
Both the mighty and low know me well,
For in the hearts of men do I dwell!

dreams are a reflection of our fears and hopes I guess, and our subconcious
apparently the designer of Crimson Crown thought more highly of his dreams than I do
Iron_Scarecrow
04-06-2005, 10:35 AM
I can understand that. After all it is our brain that conjurs up dreams, while sleeping we have no control over our brains and whether we dream of our fears or our hopes, our subconscience must be behind it.
But I don't believe that dreams have any meaning.

I'll try playing during the week and post next weekend.
Anyone else is free to post.
P.S. If I see the riddle chances are I'll remember the answer, so you just got to ask me if you can't get it. I could also check the answer in the cheats. :D (Don't worry, I'll be honest if I used the cheat)

Dreams have a meaning because they're your brain concerns displayed to when your superego is down. They might look screwed up since the way your brain views things might not be the same way that you do consciently. If you do try to understand your brain though, you'll find out a lot about yourself just by interpreting the dreams.

If you consider a dream as an answer to a issue that lies inside your mind, then there must be one question (trouble, concern, event) that is the source of the dream.

Hmmmmmm.
But anyway I was thinking more like, dreaming of something and it then comming true, I have friends who believe that, I think they're psychotic.
well yes it does. just a few days ago I dreamt up I would have an exam, guess what I faced in the morning? that's right, an Exam in computer science!
but then again, there was that dream about killer-bunny-solth-zombies, 'm still waiting for that to happen. :D
Iron_Scarecrow

But you knew an exam was comming, so it doesn't count. They see it more as seeing into the future to what they don't know is going to happen.

Doc Adrian
05-06-2005, 03:27 AM
Ah so you don't believe in dream premonitions but you do believe that the mind can reflect your subconcious thoughts in dreams but not nessecarily in a prophetic way?
yipes no short way to say it is there
it's a joke. in fact it's all a joke, the whole post.
but "prophetic" dreams do exist- they are the result of your subconcious processing the information you have, so there's no way way to predict you will be run over by a car, but if you read the news, you might excidentaly predict the next econimcal crisis. your subconcsiousness is a great power!

Doc Adrian
05-06-2005, 03:56 AM
lots of things... my first thought is.. a moment
er... no. this riddle has a different answer, allthough I could make some 5-10 on the spot that would fit also.
EDIT:it could prove a problem, since each riddle has a set answer, like the moon in the first one, and even though both log and a smiley would be answers, they aren't. so what do we do?
Mahar Vairo

Oh! I just remembered a riddle from Krondor. However, it's very common riddle and easy to get.
What runs but never walks,
and has a mouth but never talks.
BTW in Krondor you always know how many words there are in the answer.
So I'll also give you that.
the answer is five letters long.

The person who bought it, did not use it.

I met someone on KoL who liked riddle's he made his own ones that were google proof, cause he was sick of people googling for answers, and he made quite a good one, only one person got the right answer but it took him an hour or two to fully justify it. This is it. I think I remember it:
In an age unbecomming I am unwanted
I speak of elegance when on the neck adorned
In language I often feel forlorn
I think my wording is different but that should be it.
A fur scarf or maybe A diamond necklace :D
Iron_Scarecrow
05-06-2005, 11:24 AM
No it must fit all three parts, and the middle part is disputable, but the creator of it thinks this way and makes it a valid riddle.
Iron_Scarecrow
05-06-2005, 11:39 AM
No. Thinking about it the last line should say "When spoken I often feel forlorn"
So it should be:
In age unbecomming I am unwanted
I speak of elegance when on the neck adorned
When spoken I often feel forlorn
That makes it work a lot better.

I wouldn't really call Joan Aiken a girl's author. Unless having a girl as the main protagonist already makes a book a girls' book, which is nonsense, if you ask me. The Wolves of Willoughby Chase or Black Hearts at Battersea are good books to start with. Alternatively, if you like books with a historical setting, try her Bridle the Wind trilogy. I guess when iron is new, then it is black and people want it.

Iron ore is sought, then the iron is heated until red and smithed and when it has cooled down, the blacksmith flings it away and goes on to the next bit of iron. I suppose. Riddles are meant to be a bit cryptic, after all. :D

It's a tricky one - the second bit is "revered" so probably not a face - I was thinking God or something for the beard, but I'm not sure, because round vessels don't tend to contain God or keep him in good health.

I'll try a 17th century riddle, then (I'm not entirely sure about the spelling, though)
"A mate to a ****, and a corn tall as wheat
Is his Christian name, who is musick's compleat.
The second begins with the grace of a cat
And ends with the house of a hermit, mark that.
His skill and perfection each auditor wins,
But the poet deserves a good kick on the shins" (I think we may agree with that :D )

a mate to a **** is a hen.
corn as tall as wheat can only be a stalk.
Hence: henstalk
Music's compleat refers to a person who is proficient in what he does, therefore this "Henstalk" person is a proficient musician.
The grace of a cat could be slink(?)
the house of a hermit could be a ghetto, or a shack. Slinkshack? <chuckle>
An auditor is a listener. Therefore each listener recieves the gift of the person's skill. It is obvious from all this that this guy is a 17th composer. Unfortunetly there are no 17th century composers named Henstalk Slinkshack. :D
BeefontheBone
11-06-2005, 07:56 PM
What was the point of that post? Ruining the challenge for everyone else somewhat don't you think?
Also, the corn thing can't "only be a stalk" because Henstalk isn't a name! (Edit: Find me someone called Henstalk and I'll go buy a hat, then eat it. No deed polls allowed).

Well if its a composer you want I'll go with Mozart.
Granted I know nothing about Mozart except:
that he wrote his first symphony when 3 or 5, anyway before he was 10.
He was stone deaf when he died.
And I, of course, like some of his music. Just don't ask me to name them. Although, I can tell if the piece like is done by him or someone else.
Indignus IV
11-06-2005, 10:55 PM
Beef, don't you think you were a bit harsh? I was just stating some observations of mine. You didn't seriously belive I thought the answer was Henstalk Slinkshack, did you? Come on, I was joking! Don't get uptight! LOL

My last riddle for this weekend:
"He gets short when he gets old.
He goes out then it gets cold."

There are riddles which solutions are obvious for women and hard to find by men

Riddles seem to be a weekend thing.
I stand quite still even if I'm cold or hot
But to sometimes I tend to blow my top
Roaring makes people look up at me
For I am an amazing sight to see
When my rage flows forth people scream
What the hell it's a nightmarish dream.
To devastion I can lay claim
But even if people die I'm seldom blamed.
I started making this up while lying in bed last night after I saw no one posted anything here. :sneaky:
Not bad eh? :max:

The bit about "sometimes I blow my top", I think. I rather liked that. :D

Thanks
But to be honest I think I heard that line in another riddle with a volcano or at least someone, somewhere said it before.

Really ...hmm... maybe you are right.
Is there a riddle with the teapot as an answer?

That would have been my next guess, actually. Except that teapots rarely kill people and they can hardly be called an amazing sight. :D
Whose turn is it now?

Hmm, I'm running out of riddles as well, actually...
I tell the truth, but never speak
French or English, Latin or Greek
My face never smiles, my hands never hold
Though they may be made of silver or gold.
