I think that Tom, you mentioned that you used eMule. I decided to try it out, but it's really bugging me. I've found some things that I wouldn't have found otherwise, but they won't DL! Most of the files just say Waiting forever...I don't think I'm doing this right.

Can you explain to me how I could use eMule better and explain why it matters which server I chose, because I can search Global (server)?

In my opinion the servers with the most users are the best. Also you need to do quite a bit of uploading til you get to download at a good speed. Another thing that matters is how many sources per file you have. If you have less than +-100 sources the file will generally go quite slowly. The trick to emule is to leave it on for quite a while and you should see it starting to work quite well in a couple of hours.

Actually, another thing that's quite important is the connection settings. These would depend on which kind of connection you have so you might need to play with them a bit.

That is correct.

eMule is slow at the beginning, and then picks up speed. The reason for this is because eMule uses a sharing policy. Basically, the more files you have given to someone, the faster you will get the files you want.

I use this program because I have a locked monthly cost for internet surfing, so it doesn't matter if I leave my machine on all the time. If you pay for your internet connection per minute, then eMule is not something for you. Since you will have to close your connection after a while. Often this is when eMule is picking up speed.

And the configuration is also important if you want the highest possible speed.

Thanks for your help. Another thing was that I found a file I wanted, but only one user had it. I decided to leave it on overnight since I noticed that it would Wait forever until some undecided point . Then once I got up in the morning it didn't download any more...at all. It was still Waiting so it made me frustrated.

Yes... That happens sometimes. If possible you should always try to download several files with the same name. That way you have a bigger chance of getting at least one of them.

eMule is gambling

Try DC++ or Torrents of some sort..

IRC works well if the file you want is common.

You'll accuse me of cheating but eMule can be fooled by repeatedly downloading the same small file from yourself or via scripts avalible over the internet.

Might work pretty well...but I only have one file and it seems everyone wants it anyway.

Hurrah! I cancelled the download (even though it was pretty far before it froze waiting...) and I restarted it before I went to bed. This morning it was downloading! Although it still has a long way to go before catching up to where it was.

Edit: Alright well it went back to waiting before it even got to where it was before...time to play the waiting game again.
