I like making polls and topics, because I have an innate curiousity to see what people will say. So. Heres my poll. Please be polite towards games you dont like! :D :D

Favorite turn based strategy game it's either Civ2 or Colony.

Real time based, either UFO or Starcraft.

I'd probably be able to decide to one of them if I knew how much time I spent playing each one. Then again, they are probably very close in that chapter too (each of them around a couple months in game  )

Edit: And I forgot Dune2 :wall:

My favorite RTS is Netstorm, and my favorite TBS is probably Final Fantasy Tactics.

I voted Alpha Centauri, before I saw the others option. Alpha Centauri is definitely up there, but I think I'm gonna have to go with Europa Universalis 2 or Hearts of Iron 2.

I'd say for me it'd be Civilization 2.

Is this only TBS and Sim games? And I never actually considered sim games to be strategy games :P

Anyway, out of those games it is definetly Alpha Centauri, the best Sid Meier game there is! and the one of them I have played the most, it's just so damn good!

Otherwise, I'm more in to RTS's. Where my all time favorites are Outpost 2, Starcraft and Age of Empires 2. And ofcourse Red Alert 1, because that was the game that got me hooked on the whole RTS genre. *nostalgia*

My list of games is too narrow for you guys! :kosta:
But thanks for backing me up, Bernie. Alpha Centauri is the best strategy game ever made. And if you think about it, sim games like Simcity and simtower are strategy: build up your finances, get rich, etc.

It's all Alpha Centauri for my vote.

Myth II: Soulblighter, one of the best games i ever played

I voted Other, because personally it's a toss-up between UFO and Machines. That or Homeworld.

I like Alpha Centauri, but realisticly there are only really 3 factions that will win. The University, due to their awesome techonlogy, the Gaians due to their ability to control Mind Worms or the UN because they will pretty much always get to be the Planetary Govenor and win on diplomacy.

The others have very little chance. Maybe The Hive because their cities just don't die, but they're not really a good choice because of their weak tech.

*edits* Yeah, Myth II is a great game. Hehey as if a dwarf could hide. But there we are. It's the sad world we live in.

I voted Civilization 2, anyway i also played the demo of Civ 3 and i think it could be better because it's quite the same but with the animations!

In the RTS my ever favourite game is Warcraft 2: IMHO hardly will come something better!

EDIT: I forgot Metal Fatigue! I liked so much the idea of this game of playing on and under the ground and in the sky at the same time!

Oh yes, I have another point :

Why would Caesar be 'either' when there are 3. It should be 'The Impression Series (any)' so that we get Pharoah as well as Caesar 3 and Zeus and that one in China too. But I like Caesar 3 best of all.

I've heard of all these games you guys are saying, some I've played, some I havent. I didn't think of all of those when i made the poll, though. :D

Anyway: to those fans of CivIII: I like CivII more than CivIII because its EASY to get world domination in the second one. I have the third, but Its really hard! I get whupped every time.

Even Advance Wars for GBA is better then BI2. :)

It is hard to decide as there are many strategy games that I like.

Just to mention some of them I liked:

Civilization series (1, 2, 3, and waiting for 4, TOT)
Colonization
X-COm series (UFO, TFTD, X-COm appocalipse)
Settlers Series (1, 2, 3, haven't tried 4 yet)
Age of Empires 1 & 2 (#3 is comming soon)
Master of Orion 1 & 2 (3 is worst game ever)
Master of Magic (great game:))
Lords of Realms 1 & 2 (I haven't get #3 yet)
Battle Isle series
History Line
Fallout tactics
Total Annihilation
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms
Starcraft
Warcraft series
...

Lately I play more strategy games on GBA, including Advance Wars 1 & 2, Battle for the middle earth (which is kind of RPG with strategy elements), and Final Fantasy Tactics.

And yes, I woted for Civ3, as it contains all fixes I whished in Civ 1 & 2. :)

I'd have to go with Railroad Tycoon (http://www.abandonia.com/games/406/Railroad_Tycoon.htm)!
Although there arre many great strategies out there - unfortunately the best strategy game ever is not nearly as much fun against the computer then against a real person - I'm talking about CHESS!

The best ist off course CIVILIZATION II, Is there anybody to play it with me? :sneaky:

And Colonization, Sim- edition, Transport tycoon, Pizza Tycoon

faveorate rts , emporer of dune
faveorate tb, spellcross one of the most underated games ever. got dissed when the english version was released in 1997. what the reviewers failed to take into account is that the main bulk of the game was written in 1994. even if you dont take that into account it is still a good game (and was made by the people who made battle isle btw)

We should play it... Just played couple of games today, and it seems that I still know how to move chess pieces. :)

I was just thinking about this in the bath - is there a simple way of playing chess online with a specific opponent that anyone knows about, other than setting up a board and playing by email (though that might be fine using IM I suppose) - I'd be up for a few games with you guys. The only trohy I've ever won was for coming 2nd in the Lightning Chess section of the Richmondshire Chess Festival when I was about 15, but I've not gotten a great deal better since then :D

I use pogo, yahoo and msn chess. At the moment I can't use pogo, but I was able today to play couple of games at yahoo games.

You can create table, and create password for it, so that only person you select and invite can view/play game.

I usually play games around noon (estern US time).

Just remembered, tomorrow I will not be able to play, as I have to drive my inlaws to the airport.

Civ 2 for Turn Based

I like Age of Empires for real time, though I admit I don't play alot of real time. I like to read the map and think things over. but Civ also makes you have to change your plans at times from turn to turn. I just like 2 better because I like the interface and multiplayer ability.

I haven't tried 3 yet in truth, when I do I might change my vote

I haven't played much strategy games, but I feel that all strategy games have some good points to them which makes it impossible for me to decide on any one.

I have only played Age1, Red Alert, Civ1, Colinization, Lords of Magic*, Cyberstorm*.

Age1 and Red Alert were the first strategy games that got me interested in any computer games. Before I never even bother much about getting a computer(I.E. Anything beyond XT), much less games. I remember only wanting to go to a friend's house and play it for even a little.

Just when I got my first windows type computer I saw Andromida**(or was it Alpha Centauri) at my friend's place. It looked good and I promised myself to play it one day...sigh...

Sadly, I don't feel up to playing any type of games at the moment. I recently started Age of Empires II and I am still in Saladin. I hope I get round to playing it again...deeper sigh....

* I don't know if these are strategy games.

** I not sure it's spelled right.

My favourite RTS would have to be Age of Empires 2, but the greatest RTS would have to be StarCraft. I never really got into StarCraft, I played it, I liked it, it was just too fast for me :)

I do hope they make a StarCraft 2 though.
