If anyone is interest Battlecruiser Online has released it's games to the public for free.
I played the original quite a while back, and with all its bugs it was still a great game.
I'm actually downloading "Battlecruiser Millenium" right now, so i can't give any comments on it.
However, if it is anything like the original it's worth getting.
In my opinion Abandonia should add this game to there collection.

It'd be a fine addition to Reloaded guys, if anyone wants to write a review and get some screenies we can do it with a link to their download page.

Well, since my thread seems to be ignored I might as well type it here.

The game might be good. The problem is that it keeps crashing on me. I have already found a certain way to crash the game (always the same simple action), and apart from that it has crashed on very different occassions (no idea how to spell that).

I have other games to play now, but I will give it another go some time.

Recently I tried to play "BATTLECRUISER:3000AD v1.01D7C" again but it didn't work because my video card wasn't supported.

I than decided to download a game similar to it. I tried the Elite Club games and found that "Frontier:First Encounters" was quite good.

However, it just made me crave Battlecruiser some more.

So about two weekends ago I started searching for a place to download it but none of the links work for me.

I started searching again this weekend and was shocked/overjoyed to find that Battlecruiser Online had released for free.

I just had to tell someone about it and since I get my best games from Abandonia I registered at once and posted this topic

P.S Sorry efthimios I didn't even check if there was a post about it alreaady

Don't worry about it. You did the right thing trying to inform the people about the free game. :ok:

I forgot to mention that "BC3k v1.01D7C" works on dos-box...well... sort of.

It takes to long for me to run the game because... well to quote from the readme

8. To run resource-demanding games:
===================================

DOSBox emulates the CPU, the sound and graphic cards, and some other
stuff, all at the same time. You can overclock DOSBox by using CTRL+F12, but
you'll be limited by the power of your actual CPU. You can see how much free
time your true CPU has by looking at the Task Manager in Windows 2000/XP and
the System Monitor in Windows 95/98/ME. Once 100% of your real CPU time is
used there is no further way to speed up DOSBox unless you reduce the load
generated by the non-CPU parts of DOSBox.

So:

Close every program but DOSBox

Overclock DOSBox until 100% of your CPU is used (use the utilities above to
check)

Since VGA emulation is the most demanding part of DOSBox in terms of actual
CPU usage, we'll start here. Increase the number of frames skipped (in
increments of one) by pressing CRTL+F8. Your CPU usage should decrease.
Go back one step and repeat this until the game runs fast enough for you.
Please note that this is a trade off: you lose in fluidity of video what you
gain in speed

You can also try to disable the sound through the setup utility of the game
to further reduce load on your CPU.

I only got 1.7Ghz CPU speed.

P.S. Sorry for making you read this long thing. :D

btw do any of you guys know the maker of the game? Derek Smart?

He's been caught up in a flame war for over 10 years on several internet forums. LOL!

Hey, Derek is a great guy, I am in favour of him 100%. At least he is following his dream for making a great game. He has become a bit touchy over the years, but I don't blame him, it is normal with all that comments directed at him.

I don't know much about Derek Smart, but from what I've heard I always thought the guy sounded as a bit of a moron. But seeing as how he's releasing his old games as freeware, I'm gonna change my opinion of him. Anyone who releases quality freeware games should be hailed as heroes. :)

That said, does anybody know what the difference between the Battlestar games is? Are the newer games just better versions of the old ones, or is there some progressive storyline? Should I start with the first one or just take the latest one?

The way I see it, Millenium is just an improvement. Not an addition to a storyline or anything.
The original manual does contain more background info, though...

However, I'm not a BC specialist LOL

EDIT: Wait... 'the battlestar games'?
You really mean battlestar games, or do you mean Battlecruiser :D ?

I mean Battlecruiser, of course. A little mistake on my part. :)

I thought so :D
Just wanted to make sure.

efthimios

In terms of the quality of the games, the newer version, the better. But, try to avoid the first one anyhow.

BCM is good enough. The fact that you can do almost anything you like is very nice. I haven't tried the newer of the series yet.

All right, thanks guys. I'll try the millenium one.

I don't know if this is a stupid quetion, but how do I fire my guns when I'm in a fighter? This game is so frickin horrible to figure out.

Oh and about the new games, from what I've heard, their just prettier versions of the old games. Except I do believe you have less freedom in Universal Combat.

Press Enter. There is a .pdf of all of the controls.

On that note, the controls are total crap. There are like 900 functions or something. Oh well. At least it has Jetpacks.

Doubler
31-05-2005, 01:17 PM
I don't really mind all those functions, they add to the game.
Someone who doesn't like complex games, should just stay away from this one.

PrejudiceSucks
31-05-2005, 04:59 PM
Hehey I like complex games, I just don't like learning 6 bindings, all of which are on the letter 'E'

Bernie
31-05-2005, 08:38 PM
ehm... you know, making impossible controls does not make a complex game... It just makes a sucky game.

Complex games are games with a lot of stuff for the player to handle and work out. Controls do not count as complexity! (Atleast not to me)

There are many highly complex games out there, with easy to use controls and interface. Instead of learning controls, you spend more time learning the game! ;)

Anyway, I still like the idea behind this game, and I guess once I figure out to use the horrible interface and controls, I can actually start to enjoy this game.

Someone helllppp. :help:

When I first started downloading battlecruiser it got cut of when I reach about 200 and something MB.
Since then it didn't download.
I tried adding another link and just ended up deleting what I downloaded....AAARRGGHHH :wall:

No need to get worried I'll just start downloading again.

But now the virkakte thing :ranting: keeps cutting of after downloading a few megs.

And now none of the links in home page seem to work for me.

And I don't have a internet banking account(My mum won't let me have one. ) to join some of the sites that have it for download to its members.

So anyone can help me get it.

@The Admins it is free just check their download page Battlecruiser Online (http://www.3000ad.com/downloads/bcm.shtml)

Thnx

Hugs' and kisses for everyone.

Ok I check it out and its quite nice, but all I'm interested in now is playing battlecruiser and I didn't see it there.

@Prej.Sucks did you mean I should request the game there?
