Definitely not abandonware. In some ways, it's preferrable to the glitzier AofW 2. For one thing, the AI is almost decent.

It's still pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as the sequel. It's only worth it in multiplayer.

actualy multiplayer sucks , period . Unless you've got a good book that is :D

What are you talking about? AoW2 and Shadow Magic are the best thing that's happened to the genre since HOMM 3. :max:

OK, but it's not exactly the busiest genre, and the AI was pretty awful in HoMM too - the challenge lay in the construction of the maps rather than the enemies - ever play the random maps they added in the addon? Yuck!

True. The AI in the AoW series was so bad that the developers stack the deck against you right from the start. They provide enemy wizards with more selected perks than you have at your disposal, even at the lowest level of difficulty.

Well, I didn't think much of the AI in AoW, but I dearly love Maastricht and Leiden. :)
