I run WinXP Pro, and have a Pioneer 16X DVD-ROM drive I got in summer of 2003. Was able to watch DVD movies for a good while. Recently installed a X800XT AIW and a 24" Widescreen monitor, and noticed the movies I put in the drive aren't recognized. IT's as if nothing was in the drive at all. I've reinstalled the driver, deleted and reinstalled, and uninstalled and reinstalled media players, but no go. Any advice would be welcomed.

Have you tried reinstalling Windows?

it could be that you should de-install your old video card (software & driver)
or maybe reinstall your DVD viewing software (power/win DVD)

de-installing the software for your old video card should be easy, de-installing the driver could be a lot more difficult

do this.

open a command prompt.
and type.

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
start devmgmt.msc

go to "view" and enable "show hidden devices"

now you can see all the devices that have ever been in your computer

does the drive read "anything" you put in it. CD's etc..?

Well, there's an easy way to check if it's a region problem:

Download VLC (http://www.videolan.org/), it's a media player that doesn't care about region encoding. Install it, and try to play a video disk. If it works, then great! If not, I'd try something more drastic, like what's mentioned above.

(** I'm assuming that the drive will accept disks, and just won't play DVD-video disks)
