Man the last few updates have seen some total classics, this is a great game and a fantastic addition to the site
*dont read the rest if you dont want to know about a cheat*
Does the way to get 100 or more ppl on any given map whilst not diminishing your pool of ppl work on the PC version?
If u wanna know how to do this u basicly put as many ppl on the Island as you want then press the begin button (or start whatever it is) then before the game starts move as many ppl as possible back into the pool by clicking the put less ppl on the island button.
Reading over that has got to be the worst description of a cheat and how to impliment it in the world, if anyone wants me to rephrase it in a way that makes sense let me know

I didn't find this game all too exciting. I played one level and lost like a bitch. Similies aren't my strong point. LOL
Just wanted to give a little fact I have this game for genesis and it's called "Tyrants" not Mega Lo Mania. I could take a pic and post if needed.

This game is great! I used to spend days playing this on my trusty old Amiga 500 :-)
I have been playing it for some time now and i have some codes you can use:
Epoch 2: XEFABXIMHTZ (bonus=50)
Epoch 3: AXFBTGLPKBN (bonus=90)
Epoch 4: VEQDFNSZPHR (bonus=110)
Epoch 5: LPNCFBNYRHJ (bonus=120)
Epoch 6: TTLBRNBKVNT (bonus=130)
The "bonus" tells you how many men i have saved throughout the other epochs. This means for example that if you use the code for epoch 6 you will start this epoch with 230 men.

Hi,
Just curious,
Why is it that you can mine stuff thats useless?
e.g. Mining Parasite.
Whats the point, you can't build anything with it and it doesn't allow you to research anything...
Thanx,

Thanx,
I'll take a stab at this...
Yes, some minerals are red herrings in that they are not used in any tech recipes. However this only applies for the territory that you're in. In fact each territory has a different tech tree and minerals required for each tech, although the highest tech achievable in any territory is of course limited by the epoch.
With that in mind, personnel assignment is crucial. Mine them all at the start but if a mineral is not used in any recipe then one should assign less men to it. Reassign as soon as the mineral becomes useful if at all. It is not uncommon to have to restart an island due to inferior tech and minerals (ESC button LOL)

Yeah thats pretty much what I thought...
Thanx for confirming it for me.
I've noticed that even on the same island certain techs might require different resources...
eg. if you take over an adjacent section on the island you might require different resources to build a Pike than you would in your starting section.
Its pretty weird but still quite cool, keeps things different...
I was kinda hoping that you could modify your designs, like in one sector using stone for the tips of your arrows and in another using bone or something...
Now that would have bean REALLY cool...
Hhhmmm, maybe I should do a rewrite of this game in .NET... :max:

This game is absolutly quality, used to play it for days at a time.
TIP: if your having trouble with a particular map, try restarting a picking a different map placement because, as said above, some map tiles have far more technologies available then others. (On the harder maps, these are usually the ones taken by the computer before you can pick them).

I agree, Lintford, this game is a classic, and I would LOVE a remake!!

Is the sound configuration correct? A wrong IRQ setting may result in such sudden crashes.

Enter the game's sound configuration and change it to match that in DosBox.conf - Sound Blaster 1, Adress 220h, IRQ 7, DMA 1.

there is no sound configuration in the game. the only exe is the mega.exe and this one starts the game
and here i have the choice for Roland Adlib and Beeper Musiv. Nothing to configure Soundblaster IRQ and so on :(

Then try changing the setting to Adlib.
Another possible cause for freezes is that the game may be missing a file or one may be corrupted. Did you try redownloading the archive?

Also, I just remembered something. Using SB1 emulation sometimes causes problems when you try to use that one. SBPRO2 works better.

Hi,
Mega Lo Mania was one of my favourite Amiga games.
It runs fine under Dos Box but I there is NO music, which was great on the amiga version.
I've tried all the options presented when running the exe file but no joy. (there doesn't appear to be any soundblaster setup)
Anybody got the music working on this at all.
Have also tried running under VDMS (which runs) but still no sound.
HELP!!
Thanks,
Mac

ah Mega lo Mania, another classic game i used to have on my Amiga 500+
now here is a game i would stay up all night playing. although i must admit the final battle was the biggest let down ever. Nothing to build or research, just men with lasers & it was so unbelievably easy... *scowls*
such a shame you can't get sound with this downloadable version...
i recently bought mega lo mania for my brother as a christmas present, it plugs into the tv, you can get it at most electrical retail stores (thought you might like to know...)

Isn't there really any way to make the music work? Through Adlib or Roland? Has anyone succeeded?
Help appreciated...
Thanks,
Tomas

Hello.
I've downloaded this and am running it through DOSBox, but I've got quite a few glitches which are making it pretty much unplayable.
Could someone give me some settings tips to fix the following problems:
1. Mouse control is sketchy. When you click on things, it either clicks really quickly, or doesn't register at all.
2. When a sound effect happens, it kills the mouse movement. Meaning that once one of my towers goes critical, I'm done for because I can't move the mouse to sort it out...
Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I really want to play this game, but can't at the moment.
Many thanks!
Alex.

Increase or decrease the CPU cycles a bit and see if that changes anything.

EDIT : First of all, when under attack, immediatly slow down the game (right [or left] click on the man icon in the upperleft corner of screen), this because each time a structure is hit by enemy, able to harm it, you receive the infamous [trying to simulate the tone ****] TO-WER CRI-TICAL message and if armed enemies are many plus game velocity is set to max...
Next :
This is a fault of the game itself, infact also the Amiga version had this problem (much less). A solution can be the same suggested for 1) by Fifth Horseman and also increase sensitivity in .conf file of DOSBox.
Try various CPU cycles (more or less) and various sensitivity values (always more then 100). If, after that, you are unable to find an optimal setting, simply disable sound effect or music <_<

Honestly, the trauma I've been going through trying to play this game today! :D I even tried a few Amiga versions on WinUAE, but the only one that would work was in German!!! :'(
I'll let you know how I get on. :)

I loved thig game, but never discovered that you could keep some men from one epoch to the next one!!
I gave it a go once again and was able to get these codes:
Epoch 2: QHPCXEWGIHH (170)
Epoch 3: BEHCTOHHSBP (230)
Epoch 4: OBRBPYWKEIL (285)
Epoch 5: XGFCXMNQOOV (330)
Epoch 6: QANCHAQAACV (270)
Epoch 7: TJEBVHUJXNN (240)

Haha I love the nukes, if the computer players are too advanced in technology and no matter what you do you can´t seem to keep up, aim for the nuke, research it, build it and fire it at the most dangerous player.
Computer players tend to nuke empty squares just for the hell of it :P
May I perchance humbly request a manual to be added for this fairly unique gem?
I only found Amiga manual aber in Deutsch... Mann, das gibt mir Kopfschmerz...

Here's English text only version, not much of an improvement...

Hi everyone,
I play this DOS-Version using DOSBox, however, the only manual I managed to obtain is for SEGA Mega Drive, which is cool for game interna (I do not know it from my childhood...), but I do not know how to quit the game without closing the DOSBox (sometimes called "Return to DOS").
I tried some key shortcuts I remember as commonly used, like ALT+X, STRG+Q, etc. but neither worked.
Does anyone know?
Thank you in advance!

You do, F2 it is! Thanks man.
Other issues that I face at the moment are
1) When I need single clicks, like when trying to retreat with my army from a sector, I need to REALLY slow down the DosBox, much much slower than what seems to be the original speed of the game. Is that normal? With how many cycles do you run the game?
2) When I try to place defending soldiers into the towers of additional buildings like Deep Pit or Factory, they actually appear in the castle, replacing the unit that was placed their before. How do I defend my additional buildings? The Manual (Sega Mega Drive) suggests that this actually should not happen and one can easily place units there just like in the castle..?!
Thank you again

This was a brilliant little game on the Amiga 500. On the PC. Total dogshit I'm afraid.
Gone is the Holst "Mars" music, gone are the entertaining voice samples, (now replaced with barely audible 0.1kHz samples that would shame a Sinclair Spectrum - that only sound like "gfdhjkag**<crackle>fhj***<crackle><crackle>fdjkF")
This version is IMPOSSIBLE to control and play (see the post before this one).
Typical of late 80's early 90's PC games - utter shit compared to their Amiga counterparts.
And another example of the level of quality left around here after GOG.com have wiped out the abandonware scene with their neverending "game rights grabbing" of the past few years.

Its so bad one post isnt enough. There are also NO SFX WHATSOEVER in this version. And the pile of shit crashes back to dosbox at the drop of the hat. The piss poor (even on 256 color VGA mode) graphics glitch like a spasmodic squid having a fit.
If you have fond memories of the excellent Amiga 500 version - DO NOT TOUCH THIS WITH A 50 FT SHITTY STICK - it will destroy them all on you!

I would love to chat with passionated people about this game. I also have a series of developer video logs which explains more about my intentions :)
