Hey guys!

I know we've already got one contest going, but here's another great one for you to try your luck with!

Abandonia is venturing into the merchandise market, and we're giving you the opportunity to come up with the designs that will be available to buy!

We have seven items that need designs:

Men's T-shirts (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=111)
Babydoll Tees (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=6)
Black Caps (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=65)
Mugs (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=1)
Buttons (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=118)
Oval Stickers (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=51)
Rectangular Stickers (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=50)

Rules: Entries may be submitted in this thread up until the 1st of July. DO NOT post questions or comments here, another thread will be opened for contest discussion.

Each designer may submit as many designs as he/she wants. Please note which item each design is intended for in your submission posts.

Use of the Abandonia logo is NOT obligatory. You may use it in the original form, you may just write abandonia.com in small print... It doesn't matter, as long as the name is written somewhere.

A designer may think of his own slogan / sentence / graphic to go with the design.

Images submitted MUST conform to a 300dpi standard. Please refer to CafePress's Beginner's Image Workshop (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/images.aspx#dpi) for further information.

Images submitted that do not comply with quality standards will have to be disqualified from consideration :(
Please Note:

You may find it useful to use the "Create It!" link that will take you to the designer page of each particular item in order to find out how your image will look on the merchandise.

T-shirt designs may include both a front and back image, so if you use a two-sided design, please be sure to note which side is which in your submission!

Judging:

All acceptable entries will be judged by our beloved site owner, Kosta.

Prizes:

People whose designs are accepted will receive a free item from the product category the design was intended for!

Have fun, and good luck!

Legal Disclaimer:

ANY designs submitted for the purpose of this contest will become the property of abandonia.com. The original designer can NOT claim any part of future potential revenues, royalties, or other form of compensation. By submitting your entries, you agree that you relinquish all rights to the designs and their possible uses to abandonia.com.

If a winning design is selected that has been submitted by a contestant under the age of 16, parental consent must be provided before the design can be used, and a prize sent. If no parental consent can be aquired, then the contestant's design will be forfeit, and a new winning design will be selected.

Edit by Maikel:

The 'official Abandonia logo ™ © (etc.)' can be found at this url:
http://www.abandonia.com/~maikel/ab_logo.zip

It's in .eps format. which can be opened by a wide variety of different graphical programs. But best to open it in a vector-based one, like Illustrator. Because then it keeps the nice scaling feature :)

enjoy.

PNG found here: http://www.abandonia.com/~maikel/ablogo_png.zip

Please follow the instructions here (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/images.aspx#dpi) for help creating images for submission ;)

It looks great on the hat, Fawful, but it should be submitted as its own image, otherwise, it can't be used. :)

Please guys, SERIOUS submissions only, otherwise this topic will become a mess

Here we go, with some designs I came up with. Tai helped a bit :D

These jpegs are pretty crappy quality, but the actual PNG versions I have are all 10"x10" at 300 DPI as requested, and it'd be easy as pie to resize them to fit smaller things like mugs and stickers if better tshirt designs are submitted.

this second one is intended for the women's tshirt but could go on others too (apples provided by Tom Henrik - cheers!)

I should also thank Bobbin (I think) for the space invader logo thingy - it was taken from his wallpaper.

Where can we get Illustrator? Googling for it's no good...

here is a preview of my first attempt.
(sorry for the size of the basic file, but it's at 200dpi...)

edit: i changed the colours of this work a little bit...

adobe illustrator costs a bomb. and very few free programs cope with .eps format images.

frankly provide it in a .png format please and worry about scaling detail later. i can scale it up to a reasonable size and clear it up if needed.

Strobe
05-05-2005, 05:00 PM
vector programs like adobe illustrator or macromedia freehand are rather helpful
for such tasks, but as talon already stated they're not absolutely necessary...
i'm quite sure that cheap/free software is capable of handling .eps and the like, too.

ok, here's another approach...

I'll create a png version to in large format.

Gimp can handle EPS (and is free), but you need Ghostscript as well (also free). If anyone has trouble getting this to run, feel free to PM me for detailed instructions! :ok:

@Strobe: nice design! I was thinking pretty much along the same lines with my own... but. ow well... I'll upload it soon!

thanks a lot! :) i put up my designs in the required format, for the t-shirt 10"x10" (200dpi) that is, so that's why the image got that big...

06-05-2005, 02:32 AM
Yeah, but there's no need to put that version in here - mine are grotty little jpegs so you can see what it's about, but the actual file I have is of the proper quality, which I think was 300DPI.

Damn those are good. Well played, Strobe.

My attempts would probably seem childish compared to that stuff.

Anyway, do any of you have link to Gimp and that other program (due to me NOT searching for it on Google, for obvious reasons)?

Oh god, I just remembered that the plan is to use cafepress. The T-shirts they make are godawful. The logos are ironed on and the quality of the shirts themselves is rock bottom.

I actually had an idea going for a teeshirt, but my paint skills and graphic talent sucks, so I gave up. But for the record, here is my concept and so forth:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/indignus/untitled.gif

And on top of this picture would be a slogan like "Relive the good old days" or something like that (lame, I know, but I had a really good one but I didn't write it down and forgot it :( )

Underneath the pic would be "www.abandonia.com"

The pic would be on a black shirt.

Heres the killer:

on the back, in white lettering we list all the games on the site.

Whatever. I tried.
I think Strobes design is awesome. Really professional looking. I want one!

Things got a little crazy for all the admins, what with AR being unveiled, Kosta going on vacation, etc., so we sort of dropped the ball, and we're sorry.

Kosta's still really busy, as he's preparing to move soon, so it will have to wait a few more days, probably next week. However, we are still going ahead with it, just in a highly belated fashion.

Sorry about that, everyone :(

Sorry dudes. This contest has been closed due to mismanagement and confusion from our parts a while ago. It should have been locked.

However we are seriously thinking of putting Strobe's ''Retro revolution'' shirt into the making. To bad he's not around here anymore. The Design was very popular in this thread and looks pretty awesome. If someone still has contact with him, make sure he contacts me! :)

Maybe there will be a new, better managed competition when the new site is up. Can't promise anything yet though.

Again a well-meaned apology

Maikel
