Cleaning up my desktop, I thought about a new wallpaper. Then this came to my mind:

http://img163.echo.cx/img163/4871/wallpaper6kr.png

It is some sketch in which I tried to stay as close to the site's style as possible. I don't have the right font for the bottom line, however. And some finishing is also needed.

But I think it's a nice idea to have some wallpaper connected to our lovely site. Perhaps we could even have a wallpaper contest in which the winning picture gains some "official" status. But I don't know if that's possible...

If anyone has ideas or suggestions how to improve this wallpaper, I would appreciate them. Some more content would also be good, as the background looks a little empty, but I'm not sure what to place there.

Well, there are lots of "artists" on abandonia, let them modify the wallpaper.
Sadly I'm not one of them...

Well... maybe some screenshots of the most popular games (or personal favorites) could be added?
I know this isn't the best example, but you'll get the idea.

I think it's a good looking wallpaper, and maybe the addition of game screens wouldn't be a bad idea either.

What if the screenshots were in two lines, one top one bottom of the wallpaper, and the main red symbol that you have in the centre of the wallpaper was put in the background of the image? Like transparent or something so that it doesn't draw the eye so much.

cool approach, bobbin! up to now, we only have a single wallpaper available
in the fan art section so it would be very nice to add new ones from time to time!

as soon as all of you are pleased with this actual work, i will put it up on the fan
art section, and another one can be started.

note: just like with the art project, try to save your works as .png, please, to
avoid a loss of image quality. the final version will be put up as .jpg, then.

I think the original version is better, if you are going to add pictures:

1) Lower their opacity so they blend in with the background
2) Put them on the right hand side so they aren't obscured by desktop icons and muck up the entire desktop.

I don't know... I like clean wallpapers, and those screens are just in the way. I think it looks nice as it is, perhaps if you fix up the font a bit it will be better. But hey, kudos :ok:!

Off course they should be in more places then where I put them before...
The should be on both sides of the logo too and should not be in a place where they would overlap with icons, but I just wanted to give you the idea - I didn't feel like making it yet...
Excelet work with the wallpaper Bobbin!

I agree, but I am a fan of overly simplistic wallpapers.

Heck, this is really good. Love the film idea.

Awesome, Bobbin! :ok:

Personally not too fond of the tan and red combo (sorry Maikel) hehe. Maybe different colors? that would rock :ok:

Hell, that works :D! You can't use screens taken directly from a game, so you use screens from the more photorealistic moments. Great improvement :ok:

Great work, Bobbin! Continue on improving it, you have great ideas!

I've lowered the logo's opacity a bit to mould it with the background. Personally I like the brighter version more, but this one has some advantages.

As for the colours, I must say I like the tan colour much, as it implies some "dusty" feeling of old games. Actually the colour gave me the idea of using an old filmstrip for the screens. I even tried to apply some scratch effects on the screenshots, but they don't look as good as I thought.

@Tai: I have also been thinking about different colours, but it seems I've become sticked to the official theme. Do you have some suggestion what combinations might look good? I tried some blue / transparent glass effect scheme, but wasn't that satisfied with it, as it felt too "modern".

the lowered opacity is much nicer imo.

its perfect as it is now.

Thanks for listening!
Now it doesn't hurt my poor eyes. :borg:

BTW, I would love to see a wallpaper that has a "rust" background colour. Any idea if such exists?

OH, what if the current background image has such a background colour?

Chris

do you mean the background's or the logo's colour? i might get some trouble changing the background, as i used mainly transparent overlays and their colours would also change then.

I think that red-ish tone is waaay too much. I'd go for something browner.

taikara
16-04-2005, 05:46 PM
Use a blur tool to mesh the red with the tan, it'll look more like rust?

Sebatianos
16-04-2005, 06:08 PM
Nah, the original color is much easier on the eyes.

I also prefer the original colour, I'm only answering to the enquiry. Btw there are a lot kinds of rust. Making a paper out of the original tone by tattering the margin etc. would be cool.

Once again here are my Help Squad logos so we have an original colours collection :D :

Another idea is this (sketch):

http://img164.echo.cx/img164/2551/wp35xl.png

The white space is for 6x7 screenshots resized to 200x125 pixels. Btw 1280:320 is 4 so you could fill a wallpaper with screens and create a writing with 224 pixels height.

First of all thanks for trying!

Now, I had something more in line with these two photos for the colour.

I hate bringing old topics out of the ashes, but I was just wondering if I can add this to the art section? It's one hell of a wallpaper!!!
I mean - we already have two other abandonia walpapers (http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=art), but this one is even better!

I just resized it to 800X640 (hope you don't mind Bobbin - I hate it if it gets too big for the boards).

The last one is awesome. I'm not fully convinced by the letters, yet the central figure is absolutely neat.

It's nice, but I can barely read the letters...
And a few more details would be cool ;)

Yup, last one is very nice. Maybe only to make the letters a little bit more readable, otherwise great work!

i totally agree with void!

the letters' style is definitely not my cup of tea, but the space invader behind
the torned open 'canvas' is really cool! :ok:

I wonder if it was some kind of wave effect - The Void didnt like the letters so others did the same. Untill now I've been thinking that they were quite interesting and enigmatic. Now they look just ugly for me. Perhaps it's some kind of autosuggestion. Anyway I've made another wallpaper. I hope you'll like it even more.

The letters on the previous ones weren't ugly, but they were somewhat hard to read (although anyone could guess what they spell).
This one is much nicer.
