OK, so i learned that a cd image is basically one file you create on a blank cd which has ALL the files of the original cd copied into this single file. Thats great. But could anyone one tell me why people copy cd's like this? Why dont they just burn the cd as normal? What is the actual point to it??

cd images (a.k.a. ISO files) are a very valuable tool. Given that you have a reliable program to make them, you will be able to back up your CD's either on your computer or on other CD's so that in the event that one should loose the original copy, one will not have thoughts of jumping off a 20 stopry building becuase the disk for adobe photoshop cost you 500+ dollars to buy. (get my drift?)
They are also useful in emulating PS games as they reduce the time required to access the data and therefore reducing lag and stuttering in the game. They have many mroe uses, but too many to describe in full.

CD Image is a 1:1 copy of a CD made on Your HDD (in one - *.iso, two *.bin + *.cue or even three files - Clone CD's images...) Once You burn this image on a CD it's no longer an image.
Images are made usually to backup data.

Why not copy the files one by one? why put them into an image?
some games expect certain files to be on a certain place on the cdrom.
These are security checks.
if you simply copy the file this location infomation goes lost.
with an iso it doesn't

Different formats are for different things, as ISO for example does not support multi-track CDs.
There is also another reason to have a images instead of CD: easy access.
Programs such as Alcohol120% & DaemonTools will enable you to have virtual CD drives, where you can mount images, and access them like they are real CD roms. (in other words, you can have multiple CDs in the computer that phisicaly does not have one)

My largest configuration was like this:
A - no drive
B - no drive
C - harddisk 1 (system)
D - harddisk 1 (my documents)
E - harddisk 2 (storage)
F - harddisk 3 (temp drive - not organizaed)
G - hard disk 3 (emu stuff)
H - DVD rom
I - CD-RW rom
J - virtual cd1
K - virtual cd2
L - USB memory card
M - card reader (HP printer with card reader)
At work I got more drives, as we have shared drives, and as administrator I need to have access to all of them.

Think of an ISO like this...to have a reproduction of "My Room", you need all the furniture I have, AND have it all in the same place...If you simply take all my furniture, and put it in another room, it wouldn't be "My Room", but if you take a picture of my room, and arrange the furniture to the same exact places as they were in my room, you have an almost perfect working copy of "My Room". an ISO is like a box with all my furniture, and that photograph stored in it.

Anybody know how can I create CD-image file having all needed files on HD? I've downloaded many programs which are offering creating isos directly from cd-rom or DVD. None of them however, can process files from hard disk. If i have a cd-recorder i could just burn these files into cd and then create a cd-image unfortunately I dont have any. Any suggestions?

Recently I bought a game names "Singles - Flirt up your life" and I wanted to create a backup copy but been surprised to see that even an ISO is not enough to copy the game. There is a special security on the game which check the original CD everytime the game start. There is probably some random pieces of code written past the 530megs something CD that the ISO can't grab that the security program read on the original CD when it start.
I was wondering tough, doesn't that goes against some law which state that you have full right to have a backup copy for personnal purpose of any game you purchase?
i'm not sure that law really exists.
Anyway Usually a better ripping program will do the job. (or report the "bug" to the problem of the rip/emulating cdrom program).

For what do you need that image?
And, do you have already an image or just bunch of files?
