How about this idea: I post a quote from a pc game, whoever guesses what game it's from first posts the next quote.

I'm not sure whether this works, but why don't give it a try? :ok:

Here we go:

"The sanctity of this place has been fouled!"

(I hope this is a good start and not too hard. It shouldn't be, though. :D )

EDIT: RULES

So far we have agreed on the following rules: PC games only; you can post a console quote if you also post a PC quote; only one of the two quotes has to be guessed for the thread to go on
the quote has to be spoken, i.e. it has to be produced by the game as a sound; (there is some discussion about this rule; might be changed in the future)
please try to keep a moderate level of difficulty; we are all sort of video game freaks/experts and know all kinds of ancient and/or obscure games, but this shouldn't be a place for showing off how well played you are, but a fun game!
use of google is strictly forbidden! (we WILL check this! :D )
if three or more people say they don't know, the one who posted the quote has to post a second quote from the same game and/or give other clues.
if someones guesses correctly but doesn't post a new quote within 24 hours after the confirmation that he/she was right, the right to post a new quote is up for grabs (exceptions can be made if you add to your guess that you can only the check the thread again in xx hours/days, if xx is a reasonable period)
Rules can be altered democratically.

If you're referring to my quote you're incorrect. Well, you may be right but it isn't the game I'm thing of...wasn't the Duke Nuk'em one like this: "I'm here to chew bubble gum and kick behind, and I'm all out of gum"?

Excactlly. And I would like to point out that you're not supposed to post quotes unless you guessed one. The way this is going we're gonna have a hundred unguessed quotes.

Btw, I tried to google the ones I tried to guess (to verify them, mind you, after I guessed), amd came up blank. Apparantly computer game quotes aren't always easy to google, so cheating should minimal.

3. Confirmation by the poster of the quote (don't post next quote until your guess is confirmed).
4. Next quote by the first one who guessed the last one.

What part of Flop's post don't you understand? It's a GAME quote ORIGINALLY taken from a movie. If he said "Hail to the king, baby" people would have said "Duke Nukem, but it's originally from Evil Dead!"

Right now, we're waiting on Yobor's "May the water you find in the desert not shine at you in the dark". I guessed Quest for Glory 2. If anyone asks about any other quotes before that one is answered correctly, ignore them outright.

Fallout 2 it is! Although you're still a bit off. The quote is from one of the guards towards the end of the game (earlier in the game you have the oportunity to say "I'm here to kick behind and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum", which only makes it that more hilarious). Sorry if it was a bit too obscure, but it's simply my favourite game quote ever.

here you go: "in case of a water landing, you may be used as a floatation device". it's a spoken qoute accroding with the rules.

Ok then... I already answered in my previous post, but apparently you missed it... well nevermind. I believe we're now left only with my quote, so here it goes again:

"Nash is dead, you're on your own."
hint: it's the very beginning of the game...

To make it even easier, here's another spoken quote from that game, repeated a bit more often:
"Destruction imminent, locate exit."

Good luck. In case of trouble, I'll post more hints (like year of the first release etc.)
But I thought it would be really easy...

Hey, there are so many imminent destructions and exits to locate in computer games...

Is it Space Hulk?

bojster
17-04-2005, 08:26 PM
Zarkumo: nope, you were close in two aspects, one of them being (indirectly) mentioning FPS, and the other was about the title.

More hints:
The game in question is a part of a bigger series consisting of, I believe, six parts. The first four were top-down view, the last two were FPS. This game is the fourth one... however, it is the second and last part that was released for DOS, the rest were (if I'm not wrong) released only for Amiga and the series is often associated with that computer...

I hope that's enough, but if it isn't, I'll provide you with some more.

PS. It's not Space Hulk.

Is it Rambo? The quote is repeated several times in the game

bojster
17-04-2005, 08:54 PM
No, it's not Rambo. Keep in mind that the second quote is only additional, the first quote (which is spoken as soon as you begin the game in 1-player mode and I've always found it very characteristic) is more unique... The other guy's name is Jordan if it helps. Of course in 2-player mode Nash is still alive and thus the quote does not appear...

We should set up a rule for cases in which people don't post a new quote within a given time limit. I know that not everybody frequents this forum at the same rate, but those who are here often would really like this thread to stay alive.

So, shall we say, if a new quote isn't posted within 12 hours of the confirmation that the guess was correct, the thread is up for grabs?

I say no, because we all live in different time zones...what if he answered it just before he went to bed? That's punishing those people who don't live on the forums

Yobor
30-04-2005, 03:42 PM
Herm. Maybe ALL quotes have to be answered. No matter what.

omg
30-04-2005, 04:44 PM
maybe 24 hours tho, that gives time even if he is in a different time zone/ then if the person who int got it right dont post a new one within 24 hours / put it up for grabs. i think all quotes should be ansered 2, no posting a new one untill the old one is ansered, and again maybe we need an agreement on the part of people who post quotes / 2 check there thread within a certain time limit?

DeathDude

Those sound like good ideas,

ReamusLQ
30-04-2005, 06:58 PM
24 hours sounds reasonable

Zarkumo
30-04-2005, 07:02 PM
I agree, let's say 24 hours.

(It's always possible to make exceptions if someone makes a guess and adds that he/she can only check the thread again in XX hours/days, in that case we at least now the thread will not be forgotten and can wait until then.)

Edit: I updated the rules (see the first post).

a1s
02-05-2005, 02:43 PM
yes, and plenty of those (but they still speak english most of the time).

here's a clue:
it's an RPG, and, many would agree, a special Rpg.

Zarkumo

Gorky 17 ??

The Fifth Horseman
04-05-2005, 10:26 AM
Doubt that, AFAIK G17 was a Polish production.

a1s
05-05-2005, 11:32 AM
it was? yay poles! :w00t:

ok. It's an action RPG, set in a parallel world in the late 14th century (I think... but at least something close)
and it's far to new to be on abandonia.
sorry guys I'll post a qoute as soon as I get home (sadly I estimate that to be tommorow)

UnHoly

OK, I think that one is quite easy, I couldn't find anything better :wall: (empty mind):

"Come over here!"

a1s
06-05-2005, 09:20 PM
it's one of the Immortal Wombats :D

I would say MK2.

bojster
06-05-2005, 09:35 PM
It can't be MK2, in MK2 it was "Come here!" (by Scorpion).

a1s
06-05-2005, 09:51 PM
damn. I should really play that again (I can still remeber the crouds we used to have during lunch brakes in our computer class- all because of this game!)

does anyone know where I might get it?

DeathDude
06-05-2005, 09:59 PM
Yeah prob it's MK 2, cause In MK1 I believe it was get over here!

bojster
07-05-2005, 02:58 AM
Ah, so it might be MK1 then, I only played MK2...

Chuck the plant
07-05-2005, 03:51 AM

UnHoly
07-05-2005, 07:37 AM
:wall: DAMN :wall: DAMN :wall: DAMN

Of course it was "get over here"! Sorry for making that little mess.
So I think is DeathDude turn now, because he was first.

bojster
07-05-2005, 11:52 AM
So if it was 'get over here' in MK1 and 'come here' in MK2, maybe that quote comes from MK1.5? ;-)

:ot: Not to be rude by cutting in, I'll be brief. If you reffered to Scorpion in ANY MK game, than in would have been either "Get over here" or "Come here". So, you mispleled the quote, by mixing those two together. :ot:
