I got option to get one of these computers (or it might be more then one ;))

P90

P133

P166

All of them are Dell Dimension. Which one would you choose and why? (All of them with 16-32MB memory)

Depends what you want to use them for, surely.

Beef on the Bone's remark is fair enough but I would still recommend getting the fastest one. That way you can make a good Dual Boot system with Win98SE and Pure DOS so you can play either older Windows games (that will benefit from the extra Mhz) as well as DOS games that refuse to work under windows (which is, I think, what you want).

Picard has got the point... Fastest one would be the right choice...

I already have PCs that are faster and same as slow one.

I got 2 P90, so probably I don't need that one. (except it woudl be nice to have couple of spare parts :))

I got one P133 with 64MB of memory and 2GB hard disk (It's not Dell), but I'm using it for firewall.

I have one P200 with 5.4GB hard disk and 32MB memory and I got two of P233 (Compaq) which I dislike, as they got some propriatory stuff in them.

I will try to get at least one P133 and one P166. :)

I will use this PC with Win95/DOS combination.

Take the one running at 166, and use it solely for DOS applications, i know i have, and it works great :ok:

Rogue

I am not sure, but some old DOS games might already run way to fast on 166.

Omuletzu

Yes, but only the ones made before the '90s... so to sum up, if you want to play old games made from the 80s to the 90s, then go for the 90 Mhz one, else if you're only interested in the 90' titles, like i am, then go for the 166 one

Rogue

You right, and from older games, I'm interested only in Elite, but that can wait. (I believe it is too fast even on 486)

Will get P166, install DOS on it and I might add Win95, so that I can play Archimedian Dinasty, Privater 2 and Total Anihilation. :)

Archimendean dinasty, or however it is spelled, is also available for DOS... i think i got my dos version from the underdogs :ok:

Rogue

I own DOS CD, but I was not able to play it as it was way to fast even on P2 450 MHz.

Well, Dungeon Keeper needs at least P100 to run well in 320x200 (P166-200 for high resolution, 640x480 / 640x400). On another hand, Wizardry VII would need a slowdown program on the P100 or else be somewhat too fast for enjoyable playing. For Total Annihilation P166 isn't quite enough, though...

Rogue

Why do you think so FF?

I believe it's quite playable...

Here are specs from MobyGames:

Minimum CPU Class Required* Pentium
Minimum OS Class Required* Windows 95
Minimum RAM Required* 16 MB
Minimum CD/DVD Speed Required* 4X
Drivers/APIs Supported* DirectX 5
Input Devices Supported* Keyboard, Mouse
Multiplayer Options* Modem

You mean Total Annihilation? It was heck of slow - speak unplayable on my P100 when I tried to play it back then. Guess it would still not be perfect on P166, but who knows...

Rogue

I'll let you know ;)

Well, I got PCs today. :)

2 X P133 and 2 X P166.

Rest will be put for parts (I have already 2 P90).

PCs are very dirty, not all CD roms work (one even has working CDR), and they have anywhere between 16MB and 48MB. All of them have network card, but only one came with integrated sound card (Maestro).

Right now installing Win98 on one of P166. :)

thats good for you ;)
just one question - why need something like that for Total Annihilation? Its about the oldest game that runs on win XP fine. rally! I've had hour long multiplayer battles against my friend over the LAN on it, its that compatiable. Still got that massive strategy guide, too ^_^

It would be nice to have couple computers ready in the room and play against friends. ;)

And that game will play on 133MHz or faster computer.

Great deal.
I myself started gathering old components, as you never know when you will need one plus old components are hard to find.

Right now i have a spare motherboard, complete with a 166 6x86 Cyrrix + 1 spare processor(also Cyrrix), two video cards(one with 1024 Kb memory, and one with 512 Kb).I'm looking for an old soundcard...

If possible you should have got all three of the computers then you could setup lan for all of them and if you have a spare room where you live make it a mulir player gameing area

I could imagine games that would run on a i386 but not on a P166. However, I can't think of anything that would run on a P90 and wouldn't on a P166.
