:O
when I try to run the game, I type game.exe in DOS, then it says type AI to run the game. When I type AI, it gives me some information, but does not run the game :O :(

Looks a nice game! :ok: Never heard of it before!
However it should be good to learn new old games! :D

Game.exe isn't the right one to start the game. First you have to get into the directory where the file AI is, and then type AI to start the game. But before you can do this, you have to configure the game with setup.exe. I found that using dosbox, the soundblaster 16 option worked well. but I also made sure that the dosbox.conf is configured for soundblaster 16 as well.

Hmmm...that could mean you haven't configured dosbox properly.
Do you have this entry at the end of the dosbox.conf:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C C:\DOS\CDrive
mount D D:\ -t cdrom
C:
CLS
'D' being your CD rom drive.
I promise you that when properly configured this game works beautifully in dosbox.

I've no problem running the game (but then again I've added those lines in DOSBox some time ago).
Might be a different version of DOSBox (I've got .63), you can find the link on our site.
BTW Wendy - Excelent game and great work with updating (everything was prepared in such a short amount of time I couldn't have done it faster myself :ok: Great work!

Hey this brings up memories from my childhood!
I played this when i was a little kid. My uncle bought it one day and i played it through almost on the same day. The greatest thing was that it was translated to Finnish.
:tnx: :tnx:
To the point:
One of the greatest games i've ever played! I Love it.
Looks very good ill be sure to download!
Ill probably be in need of a review at some point.. i cant remember if the review links to one.. if not could somebody post/write one for lil ol magic? :w00t:
After I rescued the uncle and Yodle and got onto the escape pod, the screen goes "Please insert Alien Invasion CD back to drive and press enter." What should I do?

Type "intro cdrom" in DOSBox and follow the instruction there.

I am not fortunate enough to have a degree in computer science. Can SOMEONE explain to me, step by step, how to run this game? I downloaded DOSbox, but it gives you no clue as to what to type. Alien Incident looks like an awesome game...Unfortunately, I have no idea as to how to make it work. I don't know how to write LINES OF CODE. Abandonia is a great site, but not everyone is a computer nerd.

from the walkthru's i've seen, once you get to the escape pod with two old guys...you're done the game
i'm guessing the "Please insert Alien Invasion CD back to drive and press enter" message indicates the "outro" is missing or something.
Eep. Is that so? *sheepish smile* Then this is a pretty easy game to solve, isn't it? I wonder what about the saving the world bit...

Hi all,
Well 1st post here so better say that this is simply an awesome site ! thanks for all the great classic games !
Ok to the point,
After spending some time trying to get the damn intro to work I noticed that the intro file has a size of 0 same with the outro.. so im guessing these were ripped ?? :(
Bugga, kinda wrecks the idea of playing to the end :(
Or am I missing something to get the intro to play ?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers.

Indeed, the game was also published in Finnish, under the name "Muukalaisten yö" ("The night of the aliens"). This propably had something to do with the game being developed by Housemarque, a Finnish game studio better known for Suppreme Snowboarding and later Transworld Snowboarding.
Just in case somebody was interested

I'm afraid the opening movie has been ripped and, also, it appears that the closing movie has suffered the same fate to keep file sizes down.

Eerm. I don't know what's going on but when I get to the spaceship and the place where they're keeping Ben's uncle and Yodle, the game gets much slower than usual... as in everything moves much slower but I don't think it affects the music. I don't understand it and it makes me want to stop playing this game. Yep yep. :/

need a hint here- I've put the fuse in and I have rope, a walknman, a hammer, a western movie, growth potion, a crowbar, moldy bread, matches, a small key,a remote control, and a stehoscope. What next?

You could try using the growth potion on one of the indoor plants. Also have you found the battery? It might prove useful in the remote control. :sneaky:

Only the intro and the outro (Alintro.cda (70,8mb) and Aliend.cda(39,1mb)) are missing. Both are pretty important in order to understand what's going on with the story.

The glowing door will only open with the remote control and the control will only work with the battery. To get the battery is a big jump from where you and Guest are now and would involve a lot of spoilers. I'll cut and paste from a walkthrough...but don't read if you don't want a lot of the game revealed.
WARNING SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
}Library:
---------
Benjamin tries the big key he found from the lab to the library door
and
hurray, it works. He enters the library and finds a bookshelf that's
locked
to the wall. He uses the small key to open the lock and pushes the
shelf
aside, unveiling a secret safe. Having seen a lot of movies he uses his
knowledge and unlocks the safe using the stethoscope!? Ben finds
two
disks and a key from the safe.
Ben walks to the window and uses the hammer to break it. He then
picks
up the piece of glass from the floor.
Ben decides to go and try the key he found from the safe to the
bedroom
closet.
}Bedroom:
---------
Benjamin uses the key from the safe to open the closet door. Inside
the closet he finds piles of brand new clothes, still wrapped in plastic
covers, as if they weren't even ment to be used at all. Ben finds this
a little bit weird but decides to forget about it and head for the
laboratory to try out the disks he found from the safe.
}Laboratory:
------------
Benjamin uses the floppy disk he found from the safe with the
floppy
toaster and the program starts to load. The machine then asks for a
password and Ben cleverly uses the password note he found from
the
trashcan. The password works and the program appears on the
screen.
Benjamin clicks the elevator to go up, and the computer starts to
process...
Ben suddenly remembers the neatly ironed, firmly folded, still
covered in
plastic clothes in the bedroom closet and decides to go and have
another
look...
}Bedroom:
---------
To Ben's amazement, the clothes in the closet are gone, and there's an
elevator booth in the closet instead. Not hesitating for a moment, Ben
jumps into the closet and the elevator starts to descent...
}Basement:
----------
Ben finds himself in a secret basement and notices a strange looking
apparatus. He sees an open hatch with a battery beside the
apparatus
and picks the battery up. Ben places the battery inside the remote
control.
Ben sees a deep looking shaft, which might come in handy later on,
when it's time to escape from the mansion...
Ben goes back to the elevator and heads upstairs.

I'm running win2000pro and trying to get alien incident to work. Installed dosbox for the first time and changed the dosbox.conf lines like it said in the tutorial to mount the directory the game is in. Then I dragged the ai.com icon onto the dosbox icon. It starts ok and asks if I want english, english with subtitles, etc. I select one and then it crashes, giving the error "Runtime error 002 at 11ed:00fa", and "Thank you for playing alien incident"! Uh, you're not welcome. What am I doing wrong?

From the review:
"Before you can play the game, you must first configure it with setup.exe. I found choosing the sound blaster 16 option worked well with doxbox. Then when the game is configured properly, you start it by selecting a file called AI. The game should start and play smoothly from then on."
Did you run the setup?
dragonladyohio

Timpsi, yes, I did run the setup and chose the same option you did. Any other ideas?
Linda
*SPOILER*
I'm having a hard time understanding why there's laserbeams in the cemetary, and why the password is located on a runestone and is "Look, a blueberry!". I'm also wondering why there's an underground "village" behind the lasers...
Is this all explained in the intro????
Things just to be there for no apparent reason. :eeeeeh:
I'm not sure what to think of it. I think it's a good game for young newcomers to the genre, but I mainly just hung in there until the finish to see if it ever got better. Still Prisoner of Ice is a lot worse.

Well the game seems to have a slightly mixed up story...
There are some things that just seem sensless, but are actually fun. But this is a wicked game: I mean you have to... *SPOILERS*
- blow up your freind's house
- poison a parrot
and
- set free a terrible alien monster that eats other aleins...
That's evil  , poor parrot!

In case the D drive is not your CD-ROM drive: you did change the *second* D?
I.e. when F is your CD-ROM drive, it should read
mount D F:\ -t cdrom
Otherwise, I don't know. Typing "intro cdrom" may provide some clues.

By looking at the compatibility for the game, I see only DOS and DOSBox. Trying to play it directly from Windows won't work. If you don't take the time to learn these programs, then yes. You won't be able to play this game ever.

Hello all-
Having a great time with AI, but something...odd...happens after about 20-30 minutes of gameplay. Using DOSBox 0.63, game works fine, but after time the colors seem to go crazy for no apparent reason. Game continues to run just fine, but nothing is recognizable...changing locations doesn't help, I have to quit and reload. Not too annoying, but it seems odd. Anyone have any ideas?
BTW, I have run numerous other games on this system (using DOSBox) with no problems whatsoever.
Thanks in advance!

Just to let some of you who are having trouble with this game and getting it to run, I had the same problems...not finding the cdrom drive etc etc. I am also pretty much a dos dummy...i am not familar with it at all. So I was usung a windows front to run dosbox...(robydosbox) it just makes it easier for dos dummies like me to use dosbox...however with this game the windows front wouldn't work...so i had to go into a raw dosbox and use dos commands to get it to work and i also added the commands in the dosbox config file the ones for the cdrom and that fixed my problems..so all you people who say it on't run if your using a windows front on your dosbox..try without and if your a dos dummy...well read the tutorials on abandonia they help..hope this helps some of you out. iron_of_isle @hotmail.com

Hehe... I love game! :D
Did anyone else notice all the references to Starwars in the alien dialog sequences?
I also had a problem running the game with DOSbox.
Apparently, the solution is to mount the folder twice: once with "-t cdrom" extension to one drive (type intro cdrom for more info), and once with no extension to another drive.
then use the latter mount to run the game by typing "ai"
note: the alien incident version I used was the one I downloaded from Abandonia, and DOSbox 0.63.
Also bear in mind the game crashed a few times while playing. fortunately theres a system to save the position just the moment it crashes, so you can load it up easily.
Hope this helps. cya around

The walkthrough for the final part of the maze is wrong. When you are supposed to take a right after walking entering and walking "up, left, up, up, up" there is no right!! You can only go left, but to do that messes up the rest of the directions.
I am really frustrated now cause this is pretty much the only time I have needed to use the walkthrough and I have been stuck in this maze for an hour!
Has anyone got the REAL directions? It would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

Seriously, instead of being such a smartass, you might aswell just post a direct link.

I can't give you a direct link to the file, and I cannot link to that site because it hosts oldwarez (Duke 3D = textbook case), despite preaching otherwise (AW definition in their FAQ is more or less correct).
You might want to use Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) to translate this site to a readable form.

and make sure that you have created these directories:

Quite an enjoyable game, allthough most puzzles are a bit too easy. But i still managed to get stuck once i got aboard the spaceship. So I read the walkthrough (oh the shame!), and it mentions you need to disquise yourself. I have not done this and ended up in jail, in the cell next to my uncle and yodle. I still have 3 items in my inventory, but i just can't seem to figure out how to get out of jail, and since the walkthrough assumes you don't go there it doesn't mention how to get out.
So my question is wether it's actually possible to continue the game from there or if it's just a dead end. I just think i'm overlooking something, because afaik you can't get stuck in this game. I've got the scissors, the carved pumpkin and the note with the phone number btw.

Pity the intro and outro are missing. Was a fun game with logical puzzles.
btw here is the correct sequence for the second maze (wrong in the walkthrough):
U L U U R U U U U U U R R D
You end up in a dead end room. Walk back out and a new door will open.

The game needs a CDDrive, or it will not work.
Delete what you've done t'll now.
Start from scratch and do it the usual way:
Unzip the whole thing in (Also the subdirs!)
c:\oldgames\ai\
run dosbox and input:
mount c c:\oldgames\
mount d c:\oldgames\ -t cdrom
c:
cd ai
setup
Choose 'autodetect soundcard' , works fine.
Run game with ai
Next time you wanna play:
mount c c:\oldgames\
mount d c:\oldgames\ -t cdrom
c:
cd ai
ai

RUNNING THE GAME IN DOSBOX
Well, since I see that people keep asking about how to run the thing, here is a complete guide (thanks to the guys who wrote most of these things previously. Obviously some people don't like to read. Hope this solves all problems once and for all.
First you have to check the dosbox.config file. It can be found in the main folder (no subfolders!) of dosbox.Open the file with whatever text editor you have (Notepad for example under Win OS).At the end of all the text in there, there should be something like that:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
You just have to add the following, so that when DOSBox starts, it'll automatically detect your CD-ROM Drive, and you won't get this message about Missing CD-ROM drivers ;)
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C C:\DOS\CDrive
mount D D:\ -t cdrom
C:
CLS
Replace D:\ with the letter of your CD-ROM drive letter.
Now you have to mount the game. Mount a drive with the folder of the game. Then run the SETUP.EXE to detect the soundcard (I used autodetection and it worked just fine). Then type AI and choose one of the options (Language, Subtitles etc.). The game will start (intro will be skipped, so if you didn't watch it, you'll probably ask yourself "What the hell is going on? Did I miss something?!", but more about the intro/outro read bellow).
INTRO AND OUTRO
Since the intro and outro of the game are missing (in ordere to keep the size of the download a lot smaller!) and they are - as a couple of guys wrote above me - very important (and cool I'll add :P), you can watch them seperatly on the Internet. I found only the intro, but I'm sure you'll finde the outro (would be nice if someone posts a link here ;)).
Intro:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep_YUd5WUJA&feature=related
That's all :whistling: Enjoy playing this awesome game :max: If you do everything exactly the same as I wrote it above, you ain't gettin a single problem ;)

I have followed every single step of the "how to run AI" post on my computer (vista) and it just refuses to run. I've put that code into the autorun section of my config file, and I've run the setup program. No matter how many times I do it, it just gives me a bit of information and the same "mouse drivers found, no cd rom drive found" that I've been getting since I started trying.
Is there anyone who knows a way for me to get this god forsaken game working?

I am using ubuntu, but I haven't had an ubuntu related dosbox (currently 0.73 by the way) issue yet, but since the game obviously works for other, I thought I should at least mention it. But other posters with the same problem were using windows, or so it seems.

You just have to copy-paste text to notepad and save it to AI.txt -text file (without any blanklines) and decode it. Then copy AI.COM to Alien Incidents -directory.
For example:
1. Download and install OpenSSL for windows (its free) from http://www.slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html (I suggest this: http://www.slproweb.com/download/Win32OpenSSL-1_0_0c.exe)
2. Save text -file to C:\AI.txt
3. Open windows command-prompt and goto openssl -directory and decode text-file to an COM-file:
C:\OpenSSL-Win32\bin>cd \
C:\>cd OpenSSL-Win32\bin
C:\OpenSSL-Win32\bin>openssl base64 -d -in C:\AI.txt -out C:\AI.COM
4. Now you got patched version of AI.COM. So copy this AI.COM -file to Alien Incident -directory (you have to overwrite the old file)
5. Run game
If you got games animation-files, just copy them to Alien Incidents CDA-directory and watch them. It works without CD. :)

Is there a way to make this patch work for mac os x?
If you use dosbox to play the game on your mac, it should work like it works on a windows machine.
You need working base64 decoder to "rebuild" AI.COM file.
Openssl for macintosh or maybe some other program.
There are actually some websites which can do decoding for you, use them if you trust them :)

Not working.
started DosBox, mounted game's directory, ran setup.exe -> autodetect (sets itself to Soundblaster16), ran ai.exe
Result: does some requirement-check, says at the last line "No CD-Rom drivers found", and sets back to normal dos-mode.
It doesn1t start, doesn't do anything.
The "how to run the game" says this:
"Before you can play the game, you must first configure it with setup.exe. I found choosing the Sound Blaster 16 option worked well with DOSBox. Then, when the game is configured properly, you start it by selecting a file called AI. The game should start and play smoothly from then on."
Am I missing anything?

Install MSCDEX in DOSBox (mount any drive, folder or CD-image as CD-ROM).

Got the game to work after reading the posts and mounting the cd rom..however when I run the game I cannot seem to move the cursor out of the game environment? in other words I cannot close dosbox down...well I can but only by using the ctrl+f9 command! This has also happened in other games...any ideas as to what is happening?

It's normal. ALT+TAB to another program and the mouse will work.
