Wee first post. Anywho, This game was awesome. I used to have it ^_^ Question though, did it run off it's own engine, or use someone else's? Looks like something that'd be really fun to MOD, but I dunno what engine it uses.

Very cool game. But, I can't figure out the controls for the original Montezuma's Revenge- I've got the arrow keys to move, and CTRL to jump, but how do I go down ladders? And can I punch and kick in that one?

At the start of the game, there is a menu which has - among other things - an option called Controls. If you open this page, it lists all the controls needed for the game. :)

I thought this game was made later than 1997 - Or was there a remake? In my first ever issue of PC Gamer UK (November '98) there is a review of a game which has something to do with Montezuma, it looks a lot like this game but with far superior graphics.

Seriously, this is not Montezuma's Return. Montezuma's return was released in November 1998. I have physical proof in my room.

Does anyone know of any other Montezuma's titles?

Released in '98, but definitely the same game.

BTW, I was asking for the controls for Montezuma's Revenge, the old 2D game included in the archive (run Revenge.exe). Return has custom controls, but Revenge doesn't.

its using a ton of cpu power. i guess its in software mode?

its possible the patch file adds voodoo2 support? if thats so, it might work with a free glide wrapper to use acceleration.

ill have an experiment around with it

its for the DEMO version and breaks the install, meaning you have to reinstall.

its not just this game but every game i tried wof but came up with some error and i just cant get anything to run i tried cannon fodder but keyboard wouldnt work

I've been gaming for 25 years (Long Live Scott Adams!!) and I am seriously pleased and impressed with Montezuma. A 3d platform game with some devilish twists and truly challenging to complete. Am stuck on Lavalord - 3rd Level - must be getting old.

apparently there was a patch 1.18 that added mouse support, and 1.20 that added glide support.. but i havent had any luck finding them :(
chances are they wouldnt work on this cracked release anyway.
but theoretically with the patch it should be possible to play this game with the mouse, and with 3d accelerations (using a glide wrapper like openglide)

Just tried this game, and it's fantastic! Such a good engine under DOS! The only thing... I get crazy of the music... Isn't there a music replacement patch or something? :P

i think it wouldve worked better as third person - its not like you actually aim the kicks and punches as such - and with first person its sometimes hard to know how close to a ledge you are, where moving platforms are etc

I dont understand how they can release a patch for the demo and not the full version? I mean theres gotta be away to hack the 3Dfx(glide) to enable it on the full version. I have a P3 500 rig with a Voodoo3 3500 in it.

[FONT=Times] Hey I actually got this game as a present a few years ago and I loved it, but some of the later levels kept quitting for no reason on my Pentium 2. Now I have a Pentium 4 and I tried to install the game but it said "Doesn't work on Windows NT" when I ran the program, which I don't have, I have XP, but anyway I figured because it was old it wasn't compatible with XP. So... I had my friend download me the game from here and it ran when I copied the wmsetup and wmonte files into my directory, but during the gameplay at various points it would quit and say "Increase MAX_SOUNDS". Does anyone know what this means and if I can do anything to keep the game playing without any hitches? I've waited so long to finish this game and I would appreciate anyone's help. Oh man... I've been looking for this games for ages, i remember plaing the demo waaay back (just the two levels), and how awesome especially the second level was, with that massive lava monster at the end. Awesome. Hope it works...

Well i think youre sound card is bad and on my winxp works fine the sound everything works ok

I'm new to the site and I just read the review thingie, and on the full CD version game (which I have) you don't start in front of a pyramid, you start by falling down a hole, then you land in a big room with masked monster things! so is this download version starting from the second level or something? I seem to remember the pyramid from another level. I havn't played this title for ages because whenever I try to play it, I kill one of the monsters, then my computer crashes! any ideas?

The dos version of the game does not work. I tried both 0.65 and 0.72. i also tried D-Fend anf DBGL and it still doesn't work. After i run the setup file and I ran the way you people suggested it still doesn't work. It freezes after joystick calibration. Help Please!

For those wanting a complete(cutscenes and all), patched version of the game, there's CD rip of v1.29W [EDITED]
New features include mouselook, different player/pick-up sounds(somewhat dissapointing here), cool FOV distortions(death, swimming, injury), boss savegames, performance improvements, etc.

I gave this one a whirl yesterday, only to find out its quite a kickass. Combat's a bit weird and sometimes it feels like hits arent effective, but the platforming parts are really great.

Also, I think the review should mention that it has the old Montezuma's Revenge as a bonus. It works on Windows too.

For those whose game crashes in WinXP when playing cutscenes, try replacing smackw32.dll with a newer (http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=11330&highlight=4.1a-smackw32.dll) version.
