Yes, yes, its Maxis, its a sim game.
But did you know that even though its 10 or so years old its still for sale?
Yesterday, coming back from Calais on a ferry(School Trip) I was just browsing the shops with some friends, looking at the games on offer, and there, right infront of me, was Sim Earth, PC-Cd Rom! Not exactly what I'd expect! I didn't look closely at it though, as the wind was approaching 80 kmh and i had a headache...

and is this your favorite oldie or...?
This had to be one of the worst GAMES of all time. Corny to even think you could make a game to make a PLANET. of course it isn't gonna live up to the hype you think it would. This game should be destroyed and never sold or seen again.

I think it's a pretty good game, but its audience is certainly somewhat specific... The game isn't very accessible.
Oh, and I bought it a few months back :)
Those sim-games will be available forever, it seems :D

I played it, but as I recall, Chris Crawford sold the game stating up front it was an educational tool--not a game. It was designed to show just how interconnected dozens of factors are in controlling the Earth biosphere. That was all it was intended to do, and it did that extremely well.

Lucky's a big word. That game's nearly incomprehensible, as it has too many things to take into concideration.
Ever play it, LeD?*
Yes I have played it.I don't put down things unless I've done them personally...
The Sim Earth I played was for SNES, and it blowed, I don't see how anyone could like it.Is there a PC version...? maybe that would be cool somehow. But the 16 bit game was horrible.

I suspect they're virtually identical.
SImEarth really isn't a game. A forward that came with the original packaging by Chris Crawford stated that he made it only to illustrate how complex and interwoven a whole range of factors were, when it came to dealing with the Earth's biosphere. That was the sole point of what he did. The title was released at a time when experiments in gaming were still not impossible to find, and people didn't assume Game A played like Games B, C, D, etc. Streamlining wasn't in force, yet.
So by all means, criticize SimEarth if it doesn't do a good job of the point it was trying to make. But criticizing it for not being something it never set out to do--be a traditional game--is kind of beside the point. :)
Well the game doesn't even do that really that good...

Each to their own. I found it very successful, but obviously, we're going to disagree. :)

Well, in this case I'd rather risk an opinion that he has performed a proper resurrection - just look, the discussion is going on!
I have played SimEarth on my 486 two years ago. Even kind of liked it - it was interesting to experiment with various things that can be done to terraform Mars - or Venus - or whatever other planet - as well as seeing how the planet reacts to drastic enviromental changes.
:wall: Maybe I was too young for the game. It had to of been cool in some way or it wouldn't have been produced. Just giving out my gaming opinion, Well I did twice LOL o well.
This topic is still here so I wanted to talk about it. I will Reply on any topic on here I want to, no matter how old it is... I wasn't around to give my opinion then but I am now. :ok:
