Never played one of these. But this one sounds very interesting. Think I should try one. Is necessary to start from the beginning :D ?
This one looks best...

No, you don't have to start from the first episode. Although, keep in mind that the 2nd episode "Assault on Myth Drannor" was the best of the three of them.

Well, seems like you can import your party from one game to the next, so you can actually adventure through all three games while keeping your advancements (kinda like in QfG :D )

Yep, you can take a party (including most of their items as well), from 1st to 3rd game.

It's great because you get +5 weapons in the first game, (long sword, halberd, daggers), the best you get later is only +4. Actually, you get a +5 two handed holy sword in the 3rd, but it's so near the end it doesn't matter.

Also I don't know if anyone else knows, but in the 2nd EOB, there is a particular room in the azure tower that has a switch that releases a LOT of those big demon bear things (I can't be bothered getting my book right now to check). After killing them you can reset the switch and do it again. Just keep going until your characters have the experience needed to gain ~20 level as per the tables in the EOB3 manual, and when you import them over to EOB3, just kill a few of the grave mists for pretty much instant level up's, and you practically begin the game as ~20th level (max level).

Yea, but what's the point? Part of the fun in such games is lvling up and picking up new items, when you deprive yourself of that, there's not much more left to it. Besides, the game already is easy enough as it is.

Yeah well this is just one of those typical RPG series I didn't like. Don't know what it was exactly, but I just got bored with it.

The copy protection link on extras seems to have extra "448" there, link works without it.

I got a question, if anyone has played both EotB2 and EotB2, for someone wholooks for pretty graphics, massive exploration, game length, diversity in weapons, but not really too picky on storyline or puzzle difficulty, which is better, 2 or 3?

EOB2 or EOB2? Mmmmm..... I guess EOB10 would be the answer. :D

But seriously;

That is such a hard question. They both have their good points and each has their own unique weapons, and each is pretty large.

But right down to it, #3 would be the choice for what you want, probably because of the extra mage spells (bigby's crushing fist can be used from the rear ranks), and the underwater areas, plus #3 has the all attack button. But it's downside is the delay in the game while it plays sound effects.

But yea, go EOB3 for what you want, IMO EOB2 is the best. :)

I got all three EotB games in Forgotten Realms pack - they're great in a way yet also lack something. I think it's variation. Lands of Lore (also from Westwood) offered a far better story and more enemies/backdrops but EotB suffers a little with its samey dungeons. Or maybe I never played far enough? Very well possible - it's a cool game though but I think Lands of Lore is best if you haven't played that yet.

Personally, I think episode 2 was better...
Anyway, the major problem with any game of this series is that you get sort of ''tunnel vision'' after some time. I don't remember if this one has automap, but the other 2 didn't.
Dungeon Hack, for example, is similar to this but you don't get the ''tunnel'' thing precisely because of the automap.
Keep in mind that this is only my personal experience...

No automap in this one either. EOB is from the old school, you are on your own to find the way. ;)

Or like me you bought the clue books for each one. :D Actually I only bought two, when I bought the third game, it had a free clue book offer with it. :)

I got a question. It may be so obvious, that I just don't get it, but my game dosen't have the "All attack" button. Do I not get it until later in the game, or do I have to have a certian party set-up? (I have a thief/fighter, a fighter, a mage, and a cleric). Just curious cause I see screenshots with the "All attack" button below the direction buttons, but my game dosen't have it.

I recently downloaded EOB1, EOB2 and EOB3. I have finished both 1 & 2, but I cannot figure out how to get 3 to run. 1 & 2 both had a start.exe file, but the download for 3 did not. I tried eye.bat, but it did nothing. How do you get 3 to work? Was a file missing from the download? Thanks.

i think 2 is better for the much interesting story , the plot-variance , the sense of disage that walk all about the game...it's maybe the only game that doesn't let you have rest party (in the catacombs with gargoyle and slime) and a closed door at your back.
simply great

....... i think the second part was the best, as a game at all. the first part was a "bloody dungeon only" slayer. very great too.... but too much combats, and frustrating long "just walking around" stuff. but EYE OF THE BEHOLDER . ---> is a classic! so if you a fan , than you already have all 3 parts!

So What?

Here i'am again after a long time...

The reason is that i'm looking for a complete EYE3 walkthrough, but i have no luck on the net, it is true that the first and the second part are better than the third and it's all because the 3rd part of the game was created not by the team that made the first two...

The 3rd part was heavy, slow game with many bugs, because it was made on one hand... Pitty

I have a problem with many AD&D Golden Box series (and this EoB 3 is no exception). I played the other 2 but this one asks me for a save disk? What do I do? I tried DosBox but it's the same... I have a Windows XP btw

I was a big fan of the EOB games in my youth, and played them quite a lot. Since then I long forgot about the EOB series, until recently, when I aquired a new new computer with internet capabilites, I searched out a download of EOB1, a game which I once owed, but never managed to complete. When I owed the game originally I got right to the end where you fight Xanathar, then somthing when wrong with my IBM 086 computer, and I couldn't play the game anymore, I was gutted, but got over it. Some months later I got EOB2, the first game I ever bought. This was 1992, that game took me over five years to complete, that was only after I read a guide on how to defeat Dran on the internet, whilst at college. EOB1 and 2 are fantastic games, and I have reacently discoverd areas in EOB1 which I never saw when I played it originally. Somehow I managed to bypass the Drow encampment section completly the first time round. I went down some stairs, and suddenly there were these characters in front of me who I did not recognise, I was slightly shocked. Now for a game which is probably close to 15 years old, I think the ability to shock it's players is fantastic.

Anyway, I saw that EOB3 was availible for download, and I jumped at the chance to finally play this game properly. I played it once for a few hours about 12 years ago, and have longed to play it again. I sat and watched the download bar tick away, on my dial up connection, unzipped the game, loaded it.........and what a disapointment!!!!
The game is slow to run, on a 475mhz AMD-K6. I used to run EOB1 and 2 on my 10mhz IBM 086!!!!!! I tried to cast a spell, and had to wait about 3 seconds for it to work. I killed a few ghosts, then got stuck in some endless hedgerow faiasco going round and round in circles.

In conlusion, as far as I can assertain, this game is now worthy of the EOB series name. I understand it wasn't developed by the orginal team, and boy does it show!!!!!

EOB3 = An awful game trieing to cash in on name! Sound like the sort of thing that EA do to games today!

there is a crack for eob3... no need to mess with codes...
also there was a 32-bit engine version released that was supposed to be faster, does anyone have that?

Anyone looking to play almost any DOS games on Windows XP, NT SP4, or Windows 2000 with sound should try VDMSound... It is free online and works great. It also works as a kind of DOSBox even though it doesn't say so. After installing this program you right click on the games executable and click on run with "VDMSound."

If you really are such a big fan, why not look at the same page from where you've downloaded the game.
Under the button 'Discuss the game!', on which you most presumably clicked, is an extra function, called 'Copy Protection'.

If you click on it, you see a nice page with all the answers.
Here it is as well:
Copy Protection (http://206.51.238.2/extras/Eye%20of%20the%20Beholder%203_Copy%20Protection.pn g)

On page 2 of this topic, the answers are given as well.
'Search, and thy shall find.'

Ops! I'm sorry, I didn't expressed myself properly... I'm able to start the game, but unable to save; a window pops up and says that I have no EOBSAV0.DAT or a file like that, trying to save the game. I thought it is because by default it tryes the a:/ diskette instead of the hard drive. It was more than 10 years that i played this and i think i have to change something about the drives in a file.

By the way, I've also realized that I'm trying the EOB1, so may be I'm in the wrong place  :kosta:

Thanx and sry! :bye:

What a nice feeling to have this game! I completed original games several years ago, and since I live in Serbia it is an arduous task to get hold of anything legal so I was over the moon when I saw this part 3 available for download and immediatly "summoned the heroes of darkmoon", with Kirath, the fighter NPC from the first part (can't remember name now but he has a +5 sword!!) and started playing. Now I am asking for help, as I am stuck in the mage guild and I would like anybody who can to help me. The thing is, I have the green gem, copper key and silver key, and I unlocked the grate with the green lock, but, I cannot move from this place and I'm completely stuck. So if anybody nows what to do to bypass this section of the game, and its with those stone monsters in the grate traps area, please e-mail me the answer to *RAMOOVED!*
thanks in advance

I am glad that the download is available again for this game. As I recall, it was not as good as EoB1 and EoB2, but playing EoB1 and EoB2 did not feel complete without playing EoB3 as well. Too bad the series stopped afterwards. Same thing with Lands of Lore.

Hi,

I have the fanpatched version of this game; i.e. running with the AESOP/32 instead of the AESOP/16 engine. At least for me, it made the difference between it running unbearably choppy and almost perfectly smooth. To my knowledge, it is also harmless and stable, but I can't really vouch for that.
SUMMARY: PATCHED VERSION IS BETTER

However, getting a hold of this version involved nearly arcane magics, including, yet not limited to digging up a weird, cached version of an old thread, http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=20601&highlight=aesop , as well as carefully handpicking and downloading a bunch of files, and running an obscure .bat to rebuild the eye.res into a 32-bit version.
SUMMARY: PATCHING IS RATHER INVOLVED

What the patch essentially does is substitue the runtime-engine with an improved version, which never shipped with the actual game. I don't see any reason one can't just provide a download for the patched version, which should run smoothly after only unzipping. Unfortunately, seeing as the main data file for the whole game is different in the patched version, I can't see any way to provide just a small patch.
SUMMARY: I REQUEST THE PATCHED VERSION TO BE ADDED TO THE DOWNLOADS. IT RUNS PERFECTLY WITH 15000 CYCLES IN DOSBOX.

To see the difference between patched and unpatched versions, I recommend these two links:

Correct me If I'm wrong, but is this a Westwood game published by SSI only.
Even looks like Lands of Lore 0.5...
