A nice computer adaption of the Hero Quest board game. I especially like the editor, although I'd wish it had more options. http://home-1.tiscali.nl/~lbroers/download.htm

Ur-Quan Masters (Remake of Star Control 2)
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

This isn't a game. It's a remake that's been in-process for several years. The only things available for download are remixes of songs from the original game. Things have been very quiet over the last year, and I wouldn't expect anything for at least two more years.

Yeah, I've been watching them every 6 months or so. I don't pay much attention to them because only one team to date, Exult's, has produced anything, and a good half of those that were listed one year ago are now deadlinked.

Hehe, true. I've been keeping the pile of crap, Dungeon Siege, on my HD for years now, so I could run U5 Lazarus, but it seems it will be a looong wait, if they ever finish it at all...

They're Bungie's older titles that were incredibly popular on Macs. Predecessors of Halo in a way.. story driven first-person shooters.

I noticed that Anacreon isn't on that list. Some guy's been doing a remake for windows, with highly improved graphics.

Unfortunately he hasn't implemented all features of the original yet, but he makes updates fairly often, and the game is playable.

I found a great remake of the old "Marble Madness" game, only in decent quality 3D! It's pretty hard but also pretty addictive when you get the hang of it!

Trackballs (http://trackballs.sourceforge.net/)

BeefontheBone
14-04-2005, 08:19 AM
there's a similar(ish) mod for UT2004 about (can't remember then name though...) involving controlling a ball with various physics properties at different times, and collecting things, getting through traps, or racing round a track. it's pretty good.

Going along with another thread where i've posted about adventure games, http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk is the official website of AGS, a freeware... well, adventure game studio. It is capable of creating any kind of 2D adventure game that you can think of, including games like Sierras classic AGI, SCI0, SCI1 and SCI32 style games, Lucasarts SCUMM style games, and so on with little to no programming knowledge neccesary, and you can also make other types of games if you know how to code (there has been a Zelda style RPG made, a platform game, a game which is very much like Cannon Fodder, and currently in the works, a game that is heavily inspired by the original Command and Conquer).

At the site, you can browse the games index which features about 100-200 free games ranging in size, whilst the forums at http://www.bigbluecup.com/yabb/index.php are likely to have double that if you are patient and want to go through the completed games section of the forum.

If you don't know, 5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic and Cirque de Zale, available here at Abandonia were made with AGS (not sure if any other AGS games are here, haven't looked). If you liked them, then you'd be surprised to find that there are many more games that are rated better in the AGS community. You should all check it out.

Well I'm going with the "put the new entries on top" to make it easier to see if there are any new additions. Also I'm not adding the entries further down the thread to the list. I guess I'm a bit lazy. If I'm really bored someday I might add em all to the list :max:
