There is also another way to by-pass the copyprotecton WITHOUT using up the ink for your printer.

Just open the document and search for key words in the Copy-protection question.

(Of course, this can only be done when playing the game in a window in DOSbox).

Happy gaming.

this was one of my greatest pc gaming memories ... a game that played brilliantly, looked visually far ahead of its time and used a little something that i bought for my pc ... soundblaster !

back when games used the pc speaker .... this game came along and played like an orchestra from a internationally recognised philharmonic group.

What DOSBox settings are needed to run WC? I've been playing around with the memory and video settings, but nothing seems to work.

The game will play the sound from the orchestra intro, but with a still image -- no animation. (I seem to recall the image of the Earth moving up into space and the Origin logo appearing). Either way, it freezes after the music is over.

Any suggestions?

Can someone help me in getting this game to work?

I have tried to start it in windows and dosbox.

In dos box all I get is a blank screen and sometimes some chopy noise which i am gusseing is music but that is all. <_<

When I try it in windows it starts the game about 1 out of every 3-5 trys but it plays WAY to fast to do anything when flying

so if anyone knows how to make it work right in dosbox or slow it down well in windows
plaes help.

At first, it didn't work on my computer either, then I ran the install.exe file. This will setup the sound and graphics. You have to set it to VGA and SoundBlaster. Try that, and run it in dosbox afterworth, maybe it will work.

I tried that. Didn't work. Why is that?

I've played ALL the WC games that exist so far, but this one I have only been able to play in Amiga, and it wasn't the best perfomance. Now I get a chance to try it on PC and it works a LOT smoother. But...damnit...second mission freezes.

If you hate copy protection just search for a program called neverlock. It can patch Wing Commander so u can bypass the copy protection. Works for many other older games too.

For those of you with the opening sequence freezing up, this worked for me:

Download the WC Kilrathi Saga from here. (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=2093)

I couldn't get WC1 to work from this package, BUT, if you copy the *.vga files from wcsaga\wc1\gamedat to your abandonia version wing\gamedat, THEN the abandoina version works!!

Hope this helps!!

When I tried copying the *.vga files over, it fixed the medal display in the locker room but not the actual mission freezing up. However, I decided to copy all of the *.v* files over, and that fixed it.

Alright, everytime I try and load the game in DosBox all I get is...

Hey, for the people who say the game freezes on the 'Origin FX' logo thingy, just hit the space bar when the Earth shows up, that will skip it and bring you to the copy protection :)

But I am having a problem, as a few people are, with the 2nd mission, it freezes once I have left the hangar. I have tried the loadfix -1 code and when I tried that it still caused it to freeze. Please could you replace any faulty files or anything, as some people have said that another version of it, once certain files have been replaced, there is no problem.

Thanks :D

Do you have a joystick? It might not be calibrated properly.

I said I tried the editor's fix but didn't work :(

Yeh your joystick is probably not calibrated, need to centre it by going to its settings in the control panel.

Hey all,

I tried using "Loadfix -1" and I still have that same issue with Mission 2 as some other people. It seems that the mission is trying to run, but nothing happens.

Any help would be totally sweet!

Used to have this game on the Amiga when I was a kid, and played it competetively against my friends who also had it. We were all trying to complete it first. I got pretty hot at blowing Kilrathi outta the sky, but was horrified to find that a friend of mine, who was useless at the game, would limp home with a single kill, his ship in tatters, and be awarded all kindsa cool medals.
After a little experimentation, I discovered to my horror that the best way to get medals is to get really beaten up before returning to base. No justice in the world, eh? Great game though: thanks so much for posting this one on the site, guys.

Using DOSBox, I was able to get Wing Commander running alright on my rig. But the game seemed a little slow. I didn't fly any missions, but I messed with the training simulator a bit. For time references, the clock on my simulator went down about 10 units every second; i.e. a time of 730 means you have 73 seconds left. This seems right, but those cannons seemed to fire a lot quicker back in 1994  .

It also took the salthi's a long time to kill me - in fact, time ran out before they finished me off. I made it real easy for 'em, slowing down and running straight.

In any case, I can't tell you how glad I am to see a WC community (if only a segment of a larger gaming community) around and kicking!

Thanks

Wing Commander was one of my favourite games as a kid! But back then I never won because I didn't realize that the losing path missions won't always let you back onto the winning path. :)

And of course back then I didn't have DOSBox, which lets me combat the annoyance that the speed of the game depended on the processor resources available... which vary according to how many enemies, asteroids, etc. there are in the game just now! :(

If anyone wants to read the manual: http://claw.solsector.net/

So anyway, I won... now.... where do I find the secret missions? :)

For people having trouble getting the second mission to un, I plaed around with the memory settings in DOSbox (disabling ems/xms I think) and got a little further. Unfortunately it freezes as soon as I kill something in mission 2, but someone else might have better luck

It's no great secret that most of the games of that time were simply better on the amiga. If you still have your amiga, though, why don't you just use that? Alternatively you could try to find an amiga emulator, if you really want to play it on the PC, and don't think the PC sound is good enough.

Rogue
12-04-2005, 05:36 PM
This, as many other games, are better on Amiga.

Use WinUAE (http://www.winuae.net) tp emulate Amiga.

Note: you need kickstart image, and you can't ask here where to get it, as it is illegal. There are many instructions on how to extract it from real amiga, or in other case Google it ;) - also you need ADF images or HD install of this game, as amiga floppy will not work in PC.

Hope this helps! ;)

Ok guys no need to panic. The game runs best in Dos or isyou don't have Dos then download DOSBox v.63, then follow the instructions from the Abandonia Website how to set it up. If you experiance the lock ups on some missons you can fix it by doing this: right before you run the game type in
"Loadfix -1 wc" then run the game. This should work. If it still locks up then something else is wrong and then your going to have to wait for someone else to reply telling you to try something else. Remeber, DOSBOX WORKS!

excuse me, what do you guys know about dos gaming? that game was better on the Amiga? everybody who played the game 1992 or so knows: Wing Commander started the PC game revolution and was released on the Amiga YEARS LATER and that Amiga version did not even come close to the PC version - the PC Version was the first PC game, which used the power of VGA, Soundblaster and the 80386 processor - a revolution, this game was not possible to run on an Amiga 500, so it wasnīt done

as far as I know the later Amiga version wasnīt even made by origin, it did not run on the usual Amigas 500 without harddrive, so: Wing Commander wasnīt an Amiga game

so please: check your facts before posting

btw: I didnīt have the slightest problem running the game with dos box

Wing Commander and Strike Commander didn't start a revulition for most of the "normal" users those days. I remember that the hardware requirements were far too high for most of the users and so they were scared of runnign it on their 40 mhz 386. I remember that you needed at least 66 mhz 486 to run it smoothly - so maybe it was a revolution but it was also just meant for people who had the money for up-to-date hardware ...

Wing commander worked fine on any amiga with 1MB and from floppy drive. It came in 1992, developed and published by ORIGIN, and it did not have PC sound problems like PC DOS version.

Origin had messy sound on most of their games of the time, and there is nothing new about it.

canīt believe what Iīm reading here - do you think thatīs kind of funny; Wing Commander 1 had no Problems running on 80386SX with 20 Mhz; on 80386DX with 25 Mhz or 33 Mhz it was perfect or a bit too fast - most of my friends even played it - with some limitation on 80286 machines (so please donīt compare Wing Commander 1 to WC2 and Strike Commander) Wing Commander 2 needed 80386DX and Strike Commander 80486 DX/DX2 - the hardware rotation and problems began with the second part of wing commander; the first Wing Commander did not (!) need enormous hardware for its time; and what you say about the Amiga version being better is just wrong and if you had played the version against each other in 1993 or 1994 you would know it; WC1 had superb sound on my machine; may I ask you a question: did you actually read Picardīs review? is he talking bullshit, or what?
Itīs quite easy to compare Amiga and PC screenshots of wing commander 1 doing a web search: it was no amiga game

Iīm outta here, makes no sense arguing with you

why are they cracking down on these games? I doubt that they are going to spend the money to republish them it seems more like they want to deprive you of them in order to force you to buy newer games. . I'm kinda tired of the publishers crap.
Too many games that I have waited for and shelled out obsene amounts of money for have turned out to be piles of steaming poo that have been pushed thru development too quickly with far too many bugs.
Anyone who loved Starsiege Tribes and bought Tribes 2 knows exactly what I'm talking about. Ohwell at least Valve did a great job on HL2 :P

Amiga version - 16 colors (No, not 32... it only has 16 for some reason...)

I had the following text file on a very old floppy disk. No idea where it originally came from, but it might help those who are handy with hex editors:

Ever wanted invincible shields in your ship in Wing Commander? Now you can
have them! Also included are the unprotect and some hints.

UNPROTECT:
To unprotect wing commander to bypass the documentation check,
in WC.EXE find the hex string 75 14 B8 and replace it with EB 14 B8

SHIELD FIX:
5 hex bytes are listed for each ship.
Use Norton Utilitys or PC Tools to search WC.EXE for the hex string.
~~~~~~
To maximize the shields, replace the first 4 bytes with FF 7F FF 7F
To minimize the shields, replace the first 4 bytes with 01 00 01 00
In the file WC.EXE
Human Kilrathi
~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
Hornet -- 28 00 28 00 2D Salthi -- 23 00 23 00 1E
Rapier -- 50 00 4B 00 3C Dralthi -- 32 00 32 00 2D
Scimitar -- 3C 00 32 00 55 Krant -- 50 00 50 00 5A
Raptor -- 46 00 46 00 64 Gratha -- 64 00 5F 00 8C
Venture -- 96 00 96 00 6E Jalthi -- A0 00 A0 00 C8
Drayman -- 78 00 78 00 50
Tigers Claw -- F0 00 F0 00 DC
Exeter -- 2C 01 2C 01 F0

I couldn't find the codes for the Kilrathi destroyers but I'm pretty sure the
Dorkir is 46 00 46 00 50 and if you like, you could try playing around with

C8 00 78 00 C8 or 0E 01 AA 00 18

Now, in the secret missions part 1, at some point, you will come up against the
Gwenhevar - a captured Exeter with Raptors & Rapiers flown by Kilrathi.
Keep saving your game so when you hit this mission (you'll be in a Raptor),
you can exit and yank the shields for the exeter class destroyer and the
Rapier down to size. Be sure to maximize them after the mission.

In the secret missions part 2, (the above codes work for SM2.EXE as well
as WC.EXE) the Dralthi is a bit stronger and has the new code

3C 00 32 00 4B

There are 2 missions where you will fly a captured Dralthi. Best to set it to

64 00 64 00 4B Drop the Rapier down to nothing for these missions as well.

If you don't own this game, BUY IT! If we support the games we really like,
they will keep writing them!

I got most of these codes from a BBS so thanks to whoever first cracked this!

Good Luck!

Wolf[/b]

Also, the manuals for all the Wing commander games can be downloaded here:

http://www.wcnews.com/manuals.shtml

a few tidbits

To land, center your home ship (the Tiger's Claw) and press T to target it,
then press C for communications, you will be presented with 2 things to say,
press 2 to contact the Claw, and then 1 to request clearance to land, then
go to the front of the ship and the rest is automatic.

During a flight the wingman may try to inform you of something, you must press
C and you will be given an option of things to say, press a number by what you
want broadcast to your wingman.

D cycles through all internal damage to your ship, damaged areas appear red.
G changes your ship's active gun, the selected gun is highlighted in green.
W Changes your ship's active missle, the selected missle is also in green.

Targeting Display (Right Video screen) shows the outline/current damage/ and
weapons of your current targeted ship using 3 colors
GREEN = Undamaged, shields full
YELLOW = Light damage/shield damage
RED = Weapon positions, shield damage, ship damage (red weapons are not
damaged)

To target a ship, position it centered on the screen and press "T", if you want
to maintain lock even when it is not in view press "L"

Contacts are as follows
WHITE = your home ship (Tiger's Claw)
DARK GREY = Terran Capital ships (your buddies)
ORANGE = Kilrathi Capital ships (your enemys)
BLUE = Terran Fighers (more buddies)
RED = Kilrathi Fighters (more enemies)
YELLOW = Missles targeted on you
The Flashing dot is you

Press C and a list of people you can talk to appears, press the number next to
the name of the pilot you want to talk to. a list of messages will appear.

Armor and Shield indicators will shrink when hit, when destroyed they will
vanish and warning lights will flash.

Blaster indicator shows the power level of your active guns, power is restored
over a period of time.

When the eject warning light comes on you had better eject quick!

You have a choice of missles

Dumb-fire : Point it and shoot, it has no homing capability
Heat-Seeking : Locks onto any heat source, foe or friendly!
Image Recognition : You must keep the target in view for a few seconds while
the missle memorizes the ship type you are attacking
Friend or Foe missle : Lock onto the nearest enemy ship, it is a smart missle
and identifies enemy ships due to the different signals
they broadcast, however if a friendly ship's Comm is
damaged, it may home in on them.
Laser Cannon : Lasers don't do a lot of damage, but they are reliable and
will kill many enemy ships.
Mass Driver Cannon : Medium range/ medium damage, a good weapon.
Neutron Guns : These do heavy damage, but they are close range only, they
also overheat and use a lot of power.
Porcupine Mines : These have a limited homing capability but only have to
get close to explode, if you are being tailed, just drop
one and he either gets out of the way or is blown up.

All capital ships have turrented guns and will shoot a lot of flak, only the
most maneuverable ship can make it past them.

This game will use Expanded memory if you have some, the game will play if you
have none, but some options are not implemented without it, the game can play
a bit slower as well.

You need a minimum of 535k free and about 500k of Expanded memory for full
gameplay, the Expanded memory is used mainly to speed-load images while play-
ing. QEMM is listed as a great Expanded Memory Manager.

Radar Display :
Outer ring : space behind you
Inner ring : space in front of you
remember, this is now three-dimentional, you can go up/down left/right. the
big white + in space is where your waypoint is, steer toward it.

And last but not least, some hints.

The name of the game is to follow your wingman (or he follows you) if you two
separate you will both be in trouble, even when the enemy is in sight you
should finish your main objective (in that area) before you attack them, this
of course will not work if THEY attack you! Each enemy is different and has
different tactics.

one quick item, you will be called to protect a transport ship or Tiger's Claw
(your base ship) do not engage oncoming ships until they are within 5000 meters
from the ship you are protecting, not 5000 meters from YOU!

Hope this gets you started, there was a book that explained the details,
history etc..

This game must be the hardest I ever played.

I need to know...that white moving target....does it touches the enemy ship when I press fire as soon at it encircles it or do I have to make sure the enemy ship is through the central green target.

Then..and this is very hard cos when I get the ship into the green target whatever fire I press the enemy ships move too fast (I only had two kills yet in standard game) , so I want to know what these T and L lock targets controls are? I have tried T and it only does that the red square around the enemny ships becomes....errr..squarer (the red lines get filled), or have tried L to not avail.

Does lock target means your ship automatically follow the enemy ship by keeping it at centre and if yes than how do you achieve this?

It's sad there is no option to re-arrange controls.
And it's possible my game cos a little too fast.
Like my wing companions die fast.

Cheers,

i looked at that you just posted website, and did you know what i also found?
That Wingcommander was made into an animated series in 1996 or 1997.
The best thing: you can download them LEGALLY.
Yes it is legal to download the whole first season, because the producers have allowed it. They allowed it, because they have no plans of sending them out on DVD. You can download the series, as long as you dont try to sell DVDs, and make profits.

Hello folks;
First off, I want to thank Abandonia for providing me with a number of games that I remember playing in years gone bye...

I was able to install and run this game pretty much without a hitch, using DosBox Shell V.065 to install, and using Dfend V2 to load the game. heres a rundown of what I had to do in order to get the game to play correctly:

1: extract wing commander to its own folder (keeping in mind Dos's 7character limitation) IE: C:\Games\Origin\WC

2: start up Dosbox

3: mount the folder in which you extracted the game files using the command line:
mount C C:\Games\Origin\WC

4: Type install

5: select VGA and Sound Blaster from the installation menu

6: exit DosBox by typing exit

7: start D-Fend v2

8: click on "Profile->Add With Wizard"

9: Name the profile "Wing Commander"

10: Select "Close Dosbox after game exit" and "Game Needs Loadfix"

11: Browse to the executable for Wing Commander, which is WC.exe

12: click on the >> icon at the bottom

13: set CPU cycles to 3500 (you may have to adjust this later, depending on your processor speed- I have a pentium 4 1.6ghz for reference) if the game seems to run too fast, lower the number, if too slow, raise the number.

14: click on the >> icon

15: click on the "auto create" button, then click on the >> icon

16: under "type" select SB1 (soundblaster version 1)

17: click on the >> icon (four times, until you get to the "Memory Requirements" page)

18: allocate 63mb of ram using the drop-down menu, then click the >> icon

19: click finish

This should bring you to the D-Fend v2 main screen, where you should see an icon for Wing Commander

Double-Click on the Wing Commander icon to run it.

Note: I have been unable to get the game to run properly in full-screen mode; the sound is choppy, and the game appears to run much slower, no matter the CPU Cycle setting.. Game runs great in windowed mode though. If someone could find some settings which would enable this game to run properly in full-screen mode, I would be greatful; until then, I am happy to play it in windowed mode.

OK I read some sage advise above but I still can't land after returning to base???
I reach Tiger Claw, hit "C"...hit "1"... So where is the front of the base?

I just bump into Tiger Claw and can't seem to disengage from it? When I do finally get clear of it I am in open space. When I go back its the same as before - large pixals and me bumping the ship. I tried going away and when I came back I must have gone to fast and crashed into Tige Claw and died...Very frustrating...Any advise?

Hi guest-79: Do you run it in DOSBox, DOS or Windows? If Windows, then either:
Run it in DOSBox where you can slow the game down to any desired speed
Run it in DOS, using an application like mo'slo to slow it down to a playable speed

Yay, people are still current about posting things on WC. Does anyone know if WCII and the Secret Missions are abandonware yet? or if not, is there a projected time when the statute of limitations fall? Also, in regards to the landing, you have to communicate to the Tiger Claw that you want to land, then fly to the front of the ship, slow down to < 100 KPS. You'll know you're in the front of the ship when the TC is skinny and you have a black line in front of you. Use ">""<" to roll your ship if you'd like to straighten yourself so you can see it better. Other commands:
F1: Front View
F2: Left Side View
F3: Right Side View
F4: Rear View
F5: Space View
Ctrl+E: Eject (first time you do it, you get the Golden Sun, after that it just hurts you. best to blow up and start mission over again.

Also, if you're loading the game from DosBox, the old Cheats still work too. Install the program to your desired location (I used "Wing") and instead of just typing "WC" to load it, you type (CASE SENSITIVE!!!) wc Origin -k

That makes you invincible, and you can destroy ships by just pressing alt+Delete. I played the game all the way through until the one mission where you find a lone Salthi, kill it, and 3 Graltha's show up. Maniac is your partner so you're kind of doomed to have it destroyed... cause he's a nut like that. (Shoot him down to bypass it though... it's actually part of the story)

But because I fly LIKE Maniac, and kill-happy for myself (Grand total of 156 Kills from beginning to end ;-D :-D LOL i kept telling my wingman to fly next to me and not engage while i killed everything ;-P) I started cheating at that point... ;-; i sorry. Although i Rarely used the alt+delete... only when the TC was about to be destroyed and i was kind of left with no option... i wanted to see the ending where you're victorious all the way through. I also hand-killed all the Kilrathi Aces, first with cheating, then without. If you're Victorious all the way through and get to the last spot where you destroy the base, It's a mother to not get killed.... you end up facing over 20 Kilrathi and of course they're all gunnin for you. At this point though, the game knows you've been cheating so >.> yea... that's my guess anyways.

Ok, sorry for the long post. I hope the commands up top help those with pursuing nostalgic tendencies, and hopefully someone can answer my question regarding the Sequels.

Thanks -Taran

I searched the Web for the WC I Mission Disks as well but couldn't find them anyway. Instead I found a copy of the Kilrathi Saga, a downloadable Win95 remake of WCI+II at the home of the underdogs which includes the secret missions.

You might give it a try but be warned:
-Downloading the 72MB Zip-File will likely take several hours
-The looks are just like the old Dos WCI, but the sound is different
-The game also seems to run a tad to fast to be easy to play
-At least on my computer, the graphics aren't displayed correctly:

They seem to be made for something like 320x240, but the screen is set to 320x200, thus everything looks stretched and parts of the graphics are cut off. I wasn't able to fix that, neither by reconfiguring my Radeon card nor by fiddling with the monitor.
However, if your monitor allows to manually modify the V-size of the picture you might not have that problem...

I remember back when I was considerably younger, there was a Software Etc. that had an IBM PC set up (along with a Genesis and NES to pimp the latest games they'd gotten in). One of the weeks I went in, Wing Commander was set up and running on the PC. I watched it for a bit, then asked the guy if I could try it. I only got five minutes on the machine before I was shooed away because I wasn't going to buy it, but that five minutes left an impression on me.

Years later, I finally got to really play the game on the Sega CD. It was a pretty good conversion, with added voices during the briefings and such, but it always felt like something was missing... like the graphics weren't as good as I remembered seeing on that IBM, or missions were missing. Fast forward to about a year or so ago, and I found a copy of the twin pack Origin put out that has Wing Commander and the deluxe edition of Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi packed together on a CD (with the secret ops missions too). It even still had the manuals, and various paperwork that came with the games when they were first released. Needless to say, I bought it. A chance to play the original game, its sequel, and their add-ons? Oh yeah, gimme gimme.

Since then, I've played the hell out of WCI on DOSBox, but I've yet to completely play through WCII (got close to the end once, but my PC decided booting properly was too much hassle, and I lost my game saves). It's a great old series, and it's fun to try out different things as you go through (like blowing up all your wingmen to get up the kills board faster). Add in a good story and some good music, and it's hard not to enjoy. But I really do need to finish WCII so I can finally get started on WCIII.

I'm having problems with this game, even though I managed to beat it on an earlier version of DOSBox a few years ago. Well, it's more of an annoyance: the mouse feels very sluggish (as if it had a very low sensitivity) when moving around the Tiger's Claw, and the game -looks- sluggish whenever I'm not flying nor talking to people.

I ran the game at 3000 cycles, and the non-sluggish parts ran fine (Wing Commander CIC recommends 3500 cycles). At 15000 cycles, the game runs extremely fast at those points, but oddly enough, the sluggish parts remain just as sluggish.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

PS: I'm using DOSBox 0.72, the latest version.

Tried all the CPU cores, and I'm running the game with loadfix -1 wc. No dice.

Here are the contents of my configuration file. Perhaps someone smart enough can figure out what the problem is. Has anyone tried this game with DOSBox 0.72?

I've played it in DOSBox quite a bit. Have you tried putting the cycles to "auto" and see how the game speed is? It may help make the game run a bit more smoothly universally for you. Also, try setting the mouse sensitivity to between 200 and 300 (comes in handy for other games too).

Keep in mind, there's always going to be some chugging in games like this. There's a truth in gaming today, that was just as pertinent back then... game engines can only handle so much. Unless the coding is immaculate, or the game never fully pushes it's graphics engine to the limit, you'll run into spots were the frame rate goes down (be it a little, or a lot), or areas where it seems to drop for no visible reason. Factor in things like the CPU power needed for DOSBox to create and maintain it's DOS emulation, and having spots of slow down isn't much of a surprise.

Thing is I don't remember having this problem when I last played (and beat) it. I had an Athlon XP 2600+ back then, and now I have an Athlon 64 X2 4800+. Maybe the dual core has something to do with it, but I tried assigning a single CPU to DOSBox and it didn't change anything. I don't know if DOSBox supports dual cores anyway.

The odd part is that the parts presumably easier on the CPU are the sluggish ones.

PS: Setting the cycles to auto did nothing but keep them at 3000, which is a tad slow for the game overall (3500 or 4000 is better).

Have you tried the different outputs? I've been using opengl for a year now. Might help.

ShadowBlade

Tried them all. Still no dice.

I also tried upping the mouse sensitivity, and obviously the mouse moves faster, but it's counter productive when you need precision during flight, and especially dogfights.

Well, unless you have something running in the background that might be causing DOSBox to slow down at times, I'm at a loss. I have a P4 HT 3.0GHz, and I haven't come across any weird slow down issues with Wing Commander, except when the ships are right up in your face (which is normal). Here's what I have on my config file...

All I can say is, try setting a copy of your config file to those settings (sans the mounting parts at the end, and possibly putting the core to "dynamic"), and see what happens.

In DOSBox.conf, under the [autoexec] section you can enter commands that DOSBox will execute automatically every time it starts.

(and now its not playing its saying that wc1 dir does not exsist)
Exact error message, please. Exact commands you were entering too.

I never used 64 bit environment, and this might have to do something with that. Are you sure you have correct version of DOSBox?? (I am not sure if there is different 64bit version)

Do you guys know how many different endings (and paths) this game has??

Do you guys know how many different endings (and paths) this game has??I think there are two: Good ending if you win most missions, and bad ending, if you lose most missions (and death ending, if you count it as an ending :amused:).

Hi all, this is my first post here.
I'm needing some help with this game. I'm in the Brimstone sector and my mission is to meet up with a transport ship and escort it back to the Claw (which i can do) HOWEVER; when both me and the transport ship get within about 3000 - 5000 clicks from the Claw the transport ship does a u-turn and flies the other way aaaalllll the way to the other side of the map and doesn't come back!
i've tried landing anyway but it treats me like i've failed the mission.

Any and all help is welcome as i love this game and am fresh out of ideas myself.

Wow, long ago I've played that gem.

About your problem: did you go through ALL the assigned waypoints?

Abra Cadaver
11-07-2008, 04:38 AM
Yeah, there's only 2 nav points in this mission the first one is the rendevous with the ship you have to escort and the other has a bunch of Kilrathi fighters near it so i always have to dart back to nav 2 then catch up to the ship, but i always have plenty of time before we reach the Tigers Claw.

I'm honestly stumped as to what to do, i've tried it a few times and the same thing happens.

easy way to mount all your Dos games directly to a point and click menu interface, try DOSShell by Loonies Software, you can google it.

True, and Norton Commander also does the job. ^_^

This is a quite late answer, but maybe it is still an interesting solution for some people having the same problem:

On your approach back, when the Tiger's Claw comes into range, hail her and ask for permission to land. Once you have received positive answer, do not land, but turn around and head towards the drayman, until the autopilot is available again. Engage the autopilot and you'll find that you directly land after the cutscene. Col. Halcyon should be happy during debriefing now.

:wall:Anybody ever play the Amiga version of this game? I played it on a stock 1- meg Amiga 500 with one drive. Talk about slow!

The DOS version is so much faster, and better looking. (The Amiga version only has 16 colors compared to the DOS version' 256 colors.)

This was another of my favorite DOS games from back in the day. With the cutscenes it was like an interactive movie. Still play it now and still love it.

I remember buying one meg of ram for a few hundred dollars back in the day, so I could get the four needed to run the thing. The things you do when you are young lol! But back then it was worth it. One of my all time favs.

It did actually run with 640KB only. You didn't see any faces in the comm and the hand with the joystick wasn't shown. However, to get a reasonable speed at least 2 MB extended RAM were obligatory.

FOUR megs of RAM on a 286? Wow! :rocks:

Hi, I have both Wing Commander & Secret Missions and I can provide Abandonia with it. Just tell me where to send the file zipped.

I originally played wing commander on my SNES, and after moving on to III, IV, and V I've always been curious about the original version of WC1 on PC.

It runs great on my dosbox config, but I was curious if the sound effects suck as much as they do in my game, I mean, the mass driver effect sounds like someone banging a toilet plunger against the ground...and explosions sound effects are non-existent, maybe a little sputtering sort of like when you put out a torch in Ultima VII.

is something wrong is is that just how blue-hair rolled in 1990....?
