Ive been wondering...whats the first game you ever played (if you remember) and what was the game when you realized that your hooked to games for life?

The first game I ever played was Doctor Mario on the nes when I was six.

And the game where I realized I was hooked was Doom 2 (as Doom probably is for a lot of people).

I can never remember if the first game I played was either Super Mario Bros, Rampage or Castlevania. :P

Dorkily enough the first game that got me hooked was the CGA version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? on my old Tandy. Infact I got hooked on a lot of edutainment when I was little, I also loved this one called Reader Rabbit. As for other games that got me hooked, I believe it was either Space Quest 4 or the Dagger of Amon Ra (which still remains my favorite adventure game).

that's Civ for ya! "one more turn" syndrome is well-documented!

The first thing I remember on PC was a shareware Cd my dad found with Raptor and similar on it, but the first game i remember playing was Galaxians (like Space Invaders) on his old ZX28k. mmmm spectrum games. Atic Atac (curse your spelling!), Manic Miner, JSW, and Halls of the Things. that last one was incredible, even if it took forever to finish and had no save. I also learned to program BASIC on that machine, and started writing a game involving a series of maze-like screens and a frog called freddie trying to save his girlfriend from an evil crab. that was fun.

We used to have a load of games for the old Acorn at one point as well, cos my mum used to bring one home in the holidays (she's a teacher). There was a mail-order company called The Fourth Dimension who sold them. We had Diggers (unfortunately that's not actually as good as i remember it being :( ) the first Settlers (in German with poor instructions - that was confusing!) and a few other things. Mmmmm, nostalgia!

I reckon the first thing that had me hook, line and sinker was probably Colonization, even more than the original Civ; finished it several times, but usually i kept starting again to try and get that elusive perfect start. I remember playing Settlers 2 a lot (a bit later on obviously) in the 2-player co-op mode with my sister having an extra mouse attached to a serial port.

First game I ever played was Super Mario Bros, Snes was Super Mario World, N64 was Super Mario 64, PC was prob I think it was Wolfenstein 3-D, but I could be mistaken.

The game I was hooked on for life would have to be Super Mario Bros 3, as for the PC it would have to be The Sims for fairly recently. With Deus Ex coming in close second, and some of the older Lucasarts titles (DOTT, Sam and Max etc..)

First game was Spy Vs Spy 2, the Island Caper on my commodore computer back when I was at the tender age of 8.

My first addictive game had to be Kings Quest 3, my cousin got it for his computer and I would spend hours and hours on it in the day when I was 10 years old, they didn't have walkthroughts and the Internet had something to do with fishing.

I feel really old now (plucks out a grey hair)

The first couple of games that got hooked on were for the Commodore 64 as well. They were Ghostbusters (like you Sebatianos) and The Swiss Family Robinson. That game really got ya thinking! Anyway, there was a lull for a while in games (because I moved away from my friend with the Commodore  ), and then I had another friend that had the Secret of Monkey Island and Quest for Glory 1 VGA. I've been hooked on games ever since....

Asides from those, it'd have to be Dagger of Amon Ra...a pretty scary game for a six-year old kid to play...LOL

oh yeah...Quest for Glory 1 too!!

Finally!! Someone who knows what Commander Keen is! I ask my friends if they've ever played it before and they're all like " "

That beginning scene Calamity, and the end scene where the killer is chasing after you scared the living crap out of me...I remember the first time I played it I kept dying because all I would do was scream...LOL

When I was younger I never got to the end because I used up all the anti-snake oil and then got devoured in the boiler pipes! :[img]http://www.abandonia.com/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

It's great to find more people that love this game as much as I do.

My first game was "Castle" or "Castle Adventure" on Apple][e. I've never beaten it, even today (tried it again a year ago), since there is a part in which you stand in front of a dragon and have 10 seconds time to type a command. I never figured out the correct one. But it's astonishing how long these old 5 1/4" DD discs can last.

The games I've been hooked with for weeks were Civilisation, Master of Orion and the Might & Magic Saga (the early parts).

And yes, Commander Keen WAS cool! I've played all parts of the series. My favourite was part 4. Someone remembers the dopefish? LOL
The weak spot of the series was Keen Dreams somehow.

LOL...there are times I still play Commander Keen when I'm bored! LOL

Bobbin - the 4th game was my favourite too!! And I agree, I didnt really enjoy playing "Keen Dreams" as much as the others...*stupid vegetables*

commander keen, which is like one of the best games EVER, and kings quest one.
I was kindds scared when I had to play it alone though, because of that evil sound that came whenever a witch or wizard or whatever appeared.

Even before that I watched my sister and the boy next door play the black cauldron, but I got scared when the thingy stole the pig. Man, I was basically little yellow belliedl coward!!

I don't remember very well because I must have been 4 or 5 years old, but it was a game for the Spectrum 48k with a guy walking in a graveyard and running from ghosts and monsters. I think the name is Wizard's Lair, but I'm not sure.
The first game that got me REALLY hooked was Prince of Persia.

Wing commander is an excellent game. I can remember my dad playing constantly. All I did was blow up the carrier

The first PC-game I played was Street Rod 2 on a computer in my school. The one I always will remember must be Prehostorik 2.

One of the more recent hooked games that me and my friends have been playing has been Mario Power tennis for the gamecube, very fun game, plus when one of my friends came over to my friend's to play the game, he's a big Madden fan, and he loves playing Madden, but when we started to play Mario Power Tennis, he was hooked and just wanted to keep playing that game, that was a shocker to say the least.

The first game I have ever played.. hmmm

I think it has to be the TV console 'tennis' (I don't even remember if id had a name). It was with 2 pads and a ball on a black and white screen.
I was pretty hooked up from the start, but the real nostalgic kind of hookedness came when I was playing games like Paratrooper, Buck Rogers and Arkanoid at my friends Commodore 64.

As for the PC.. oh yeah, I had these 'Friendly war games', a collection of classics in ascii graphics. Among these games there was Donkey Kong, Lander (that really sucked), paratrooper, and Shooter. Shooter was a real fun game, I could play it endlessly.
After that there came Jumpjoe, Willy the Worm(!) and Lode Runner and many more.

Funny how many small games there still were before CGA graphics came in.
