I really wanted to create a topic like this a long time ago :D . If anybody has got any music or cool sounds from games, put them here (like the sound from Painkiller - the gong). If anybody wants, I can send them tunes from Castlevania Dracula X and Super Castlevania 4, Doom3 into e-mail. ;)

Are you talking about something like this? (http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=music_list)

God damn it... Never seen that before, but replying to your question: no, not necesarily, you can give songs from new games like "The Suffering", or ect. Plus I think we'd prefer more mp3 or ogg vorbis. I dont know why but it suits me better. ;)

Well, perhaps music from new games still being sold is not legal to share? http://www.abandonia.com/forum/uploads/post-7-1103202947.gif

The way I see it - I have bought many games from which I would like to contribute. There's no law against that is there? Besides, the LAW clearly states that ONLY for giving away stuff like that for PERSONAL PROFIT would be a crime now isnt it?

Mentor

Actually, no. Any tranferance of purchased goods, either for profit or not, is against many companies Liscencing Agreements. Why do you think Napster was in so much trouble years ago? Nobody profited from that, but it still violated the Liscencing Agreement. It just varies from company to company and business to business.

Back on Topic: I've got a lot of old Commorore 64 music, if that counts...

Anyone want Red Alert music? I have a few tracks. I'll put a list here.

Grinder (RA2)
Hell March (RA)
Mutant (TS)
Radio (RA, I think)

Only a few, tell me if you want one. I'll post it.

Strobe

i have not enough free webspace to store the in-game music i'd like to present here,
but if mentioning the game's titles is sufficient, let me list those:

old games:

- shadow of the beast
- turrican and apidya (chris huelsbeck rules!! :))

new games:

- morrowind
- rise of nations

of course there are plenty of other games which have great scores, but the ones
above will most probably be my favourite ones, ever!

Totally agreed. :D

Anyway, I have also CD-music from some old games, like Mech Warrior 2, Descent II or Alien Trilogy. I think it's pretty good (especially the one from Alien Trilogy). I could convert it to MP3 format. If someone is interested, I could upload it to my FTP account here. ;)

You can get most, if not all, C&C themes here Frank Klepacki's site (http://www.frankklepacki.com)

My favourite music is from Morrowind (after a while it does get repetitive), Rise of Nations, C&C and Beyond Good & Evil

Dreadlord

Here yah go!

Grinder (http://www.otistwelve.com/mp3/music/frank_klepacki/Frank%20Klepacki%20-%20Red%20Alert%202%20-%2004%20-%20Grinder.mp3)

It's not the fastest connection though, so be ready to wait a minute or two to download it. :bye:

Refer to Stroggy's link, it's a good source.

One problem, , it's really really slow, so expect it to take awhile to download the songs, great recommendation though.

Mad-E-Fact

From classic games that would be the themes from games like Agony, Shadow of the Beast, Z-Out, Turrican (all on the Amiga). From newer games:

Icewind Dale - Easthaven in Peace
Max Payne 2 Theme
arcanum 01 main theme
arcanum 11 towns

The first two are from... undisclosed sources, but the Arcanum music is available from the composers homepage, really outstanding melancholic tunes.

Please put posts with clickable songnames as to download right from here.

Well, I can't do that, but for the Arcanum soundtrack visit this page:

http://arcanum.sierra.com/us/media/media-soundtrack.html

And for the Amiga tunes go here:

http://www.back2roots.org/Music/Games/

and find the games I mentioned. The latter page is really a gold source for Amiga game music. :ok: Most of the scores can be listened to with WinAmp, you might require some plugin though.

Hehe... I got quite a few soundtrack bookmarks...

Command & Conquer: rip from the official soundtrack CD
http://www.abandonware-france.org/ltf-jeu....comment_membres (http://www.abandonware-france.org/ltf-jeu.php3?id=461##comment_membres)
Sadly does not have all C&C music... though the fact it has music that was left out of the game and music from the expansion pack does make up for that :)

Command & Conquer Red Alert (1): rip from the official soundtrack CD
http://ra.afraid.org/html/downloads/mp3cd.html
Again... doesn't have everything the game has. This one doesn't have any extras though afaik.

Dune 1 music
(Note that this is not Spice Opera.. these are actually game music rips)
http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~ollinie/adlib/dune/

Dune: Spice Opera
http://olivier.dri.free.fr/dunedown.php3#music
(first 13 tracks)
This is the official soundtrack of the first Dune game. Amazing synth music.

And here I found some of WC3's music:

Is a "rip" - a recording of smth, if then, I have been doing it for half a year with my headphone's microphone. You wouldnt believe how good and clean it can record.

P.S. Does anybody know a better recording system than the Windows sound recorder? Cause it only records sounds no larger than 60sec per file. You would help me out by answering...

Kon-Tiki

Try recording more than one file of 60 seconds at most. Then choose Edit->Import File (or something similar, don't have an English Windows here)

I've managed to record more than 60 sec files with Windows Sound Recorder, just have to keep pushing record, in order to go past that time.

troop18546
12-03-2005, 12:28 PM
Well, in order to do that I would have to get out of a game in 0.00000000 sec to push it and in 0.00000000 to go back into the game. It cant be possible for me.

Yes, but that's mono, and pretty crappy quality. Frank's site has the originals as MP3, which means near-CD quality stereo :P

troop18546... the only limit of how long you can record with Audacity is how much disk space you have available for it to dump temp files on :)
For recording sound from the PC, put the Recorcing channel (in audacity itself - don't mind the Windows sound settings) to Stereomix/Wavemix.

troop18546

Nyerguds
19-04-2005, 05:19 PM
I actually ripped the music from Frank's site though... didn't record it - just plain get the MP3's out of my browser's cache.

After all, anything you stream ends up somewhere on your hard disk. You just gotta know how to get there :P
(which isn't too easy in the case of Frank Klepacki's site... MP3's stored in a Flash shell which is then renamed from '.swf' to '.fk'. Didn't stop me though :P)

btw here is a step by step guide I made on how to extract music from Wolf3d based games:

1. Get wolf3d
2. Get IMFTools
3. Get WDC (http://winwolf3d.tripod.com/faq-wdc.html)
4. Install it
5. Now open it up. In the project settings, select the wolf3d folder as the base folder.
6. Finally, click the icon with the musical note, this will contain all the sound/music chunk files. The order is (to what I remeber) PC Speaker sounds first, then Adlib Sounds, the digi sounds (These won't play because they are .wavs, go to the button with a speaker to play these)
7. Scroll down to the bottom, the files that start (or end can't remeber) with MUS are music files. Extract them. now you get an .imf file. This is the filetype that wolf3d uses.
8. Dump it into the imftools folder
9. Go into ms-dos and get to the folder were imftools are.
10. type imf2mus <filename.imf>
11. Now you have a mus file (Remeber this? it was in the filename).
12. We have to convert it into a midi file so type mus2midi <filename.mus>
13. Ta-Da!!! you just extracted and converted your first wolf3d based music file.
====Optional====
14. To convert the midi to an mp3 (or another file) get iTunes.
15. Import the midi file into iTunes
16. In the options under one of the tabes, there will be convert options, select the filetype you want.
17. Now right click the midi file and choose convert.
18. You now have a wolf3d music file... IN MP3 (or other) FORMAT!!!

man that was alot of typing, anyway I will check all the info when I get home, also if I feel like it I will include pics :D

I found it. It's called acm2wav convertor. Here you are:

there is another way to get music from these things, depends on how processesor hungry the game is tho as 2 wether or not it will work, cuz u gonna need an audio editor/recorder running at the same time as your game, an the disc streaming can cause probs but i do this all the time with internet radio stations, an it works mosta the time, sometimes the wav dont render but ah well, thems the breaks.
go to control panel, if you using a creative labs soundblaster of pretty much any number the thing u looking for is audio hq, dunno what its called for other makes o sound cards, open it, go to your mixer, change the record channel to the "what you hear" setting. open your audio app (i use sf acid, but u can get freebies that record usually bundled with your soundcard) boot up dos box in a non full screen mode (i use dos box with d fend so i dont actually kno if yall can skip between windows an dos box with the ease u can when using d fend but ahh well) press record in your audio editor, start the game, an viola, like i say works for internet radio streams 2 :ok:
