problem with pirates gold

anybody succeded in playing pirates gold? the one i got from here doesn't start at all. the screen displays some computer numbers like ax = xxx or something like that.. i'll try to bring the detail tomorrow or maybe better i'll try to capture it so that it'll be more specific..

and i thought i'd be able to play pirates gold soon..

fyi, i used the newest dosbox.. ver 0.61 right? so weird i tell ya.. :?

The newest version of DosBox is version 0.62

You need this version in order to play it.

be sure to start piratesg.exe

Also don't choose Soundblaster 16 for sound /musik, choose Sounblaster Pro (not sure if older or newer) for sound and General Midi for music.

hm.. seems like dosbox 0.62 hasn't fully released yet.. anybody know where to find it? wish i could go back home and try pirates gold now.. :?

There is no version 0.62 of DosBox.
I made a mistake. 0.61 should be able to play Pirates! Gold. The only one I know that has an improved version of DosBox BEYOND 0.61 is Ieremiou.

the game actually worked!! :D

but :? the graphic are kinda messy. not to mention the menu disappearing when i hover my mouse above them and the game abit sluggish.. aw.. sucks..

i used dosbox 0.61 ith frameskip 0 and cycle 5500.. not enough?? and i can't find [IPX] section in dosbox.conf.. any suggestion guys?

The game runs fine in dosbox and in regular dos for me.
Try running it without dosbox, it might work for you too.

run the game without dosbox? you mean running the game from windows? well, i tried it before and it didn't work for me.. i forgot the error message..

i am using windows XP with Athlon 2600.. dunno what went wrong there..

It runs fine on win98. :P
If it really doesn't work on WinXp you could always download the pirates gold for windows version, although I think it's pretty annoying you have to reduce your color depth to 256 colors before you run the gold for windows version... Aaargh! ;)

Also, I found that the original pirates! works fine on XP and the ship battles run at normal speeds too.

How did you get the dos version running in XP?? :shock:

I just ran the file "PIR.exe". XP isn't as bad as everyone says it is for running DOS games I find, I didn't even have to twiddle with the compatibility options. I could upload the original pirates if you like, it works fine on XP and I have the manual and map.

Hmm... The original version I have too on CD (all three languages in fact), but when I run pir.exe it stops again like every dos game under XP (no way there on my computer).
Doesn't matter much for me in any case, I play the game in Windows 98 or DosBox anyway...
Later correction: under DosBox it doesn't run for me, just under Windows 98, but without any problems there.

You don't need to install it, just copy the files over to some created directory and run install.exe for setting sound & music. ;)

when i tried running pirates gold usung dosbox ver .62, this error message kept coming up...it says..

File <spr\title.spr>Not Found Error!
SVGA#: 1 (vesa) w/512Kb

....i dunno what to do..ive tried all kinds of things..its not working..i did everything that Data said to do in his signature..haha.. but its just doesnt work.and its beginning to piss me off..

...ive heard other ppl had the same problem..does anyone know how to fix this??
