Hi this is my first post, i believe that you have to download the manual as when you load the game it asks for a password which is just a word from the manual it will tell you the page line and the number of the word not sure if you actually need this as its not that hard to work out.

I hope this version is not from underdogs because that one always crashes just before the end...

Just to pre-empt any questions, the security question does not need to be answered; that's been crippled. I was able to just key right through by hitting enter.

the games realy unique i like it :guns:

Judd Hirsh is Matt Stuvysant
19-02-2005, 08:04 AM
I swear, they used Hirsh as a model for the main character.

Don't believe me? Look at the screen from inside the Taxi, and look at this picture over at IMDB

http://imdb.com/name/nm0002139/

Notice a more than subtle resemblance?

*NOTE* This is intended as humurous, if nothing else, but seriously, the first time I played this game I thought "That's the guy from Taxi!"

Even the old, story-telling Stuvysant looks like Hirsh from Independance Day.

There is a complete German walkthrough to The Clue! at http://home.arcor.de/martinameier004/amiga/derclou.htm and a forum where you can talk about the game at http://www.antaresdesign.org/theclue!/forum/. Many people probably have a hard time understanding the German walkthrough, and that's why I, based on the German walkthrough and my own experiences will create an English walkthrough.

*** WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD ***

*** WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD ***

The Clue! English walkthrough

NOTE: This is just one way of getting started in the game. You can do this in several other ways too, but I won't write all the possibilities here.

The game starts at the Victoria Station. First, you go to the Holland Street and enter the Fat Mans Pub and start talking with people. After you've done that, leave the pub and enter a taxi. The driver will tell you that you are the millionth customer and you get free rides for one year. If the place is available, go to the Cars & Vans at Wellington Road (if it isn't, you may have to talk to the taxi driver in the pub). When you arrive at Cars & Vans, a man should talk to you and ask if you're related to someone he knows. Answer anything and eventually you'll get 20 pounds. After this, enter the taxi again and go back to Holland Street. When you're there, go to the Hotel and get yourself a room.

When you enter the room, you will automatically call your Mum and after that you'll talk to a guy named Mr. Briggs. He will wait for you at the Fat Mans Pub and offer you a job, a burglary at a Kiosk. You accept it, and then you get a car and the plans for the crime. After this, take a cab and go to Watling Street and enter the Tool Shop. Buy a jemmy and gloves, and leave the shop. Now you have to find an associate to help you in the crime. Since you can't drive the car yourself, you have to find a driver. I recommend Justin White for the first crime, she's not greedy but still a decent driver. You'll find her in one of the pubs. Ask her to join your crime, and accept her offer. After this you go to your room, and go into Plan mode. Make Justin your associate, and start planning the crime. The kiosk burglary is very easy. You can break the front door with your jemmy and then go in and break the cash-boxes or whatever you find with your jemmy and take the money. You can also break the cash-box from outside if you wish. After you've finished this crime, go to one of the dealers to sell your loot and then continue doing crimes.

From here onwards, you can go many routes and will encounter some problems, but all routes lead to the same result. After eight crimes, someone will offer you 200000 Pounds for stealing a suitcase from a villa. You have to buy the Jaguar with the money you got as the letter says. Here, you can either go to the villa and steal the suitcase, or instead do some other burglary. You have to use the Jaguar tho. Whatever you choose, you will end up with the suitcase and find out that it contains drugs. After this you will get a phone call and hear that Guido is coming to get you, so you escape and end up in Southampton where you spend a year or so. After this, Mr. Briggs comes to you and suggests that you, him and two more associates break into the Tower of London to get the Crown Jewels. You automatically accept and start planning the crime. When you've planned it, start the crime. You won't get far tho before you hear Inspector Guidos voice saying he has surrounded the building. You and your associates escape, but outside, the mafia is waiting for you. Mr. Briggs turns on you and you fall asleep. When you wake up, Mr. Ken Addison tells you that because you tried to steal something belonging to him, you have to make up for it by being an associate in one of his burglaries. He tells you the plan, but the idea here is for you to escape when the other three associates get caught.

Here is how to succeed with the Starford mission and finish the game:

First, walk straight forward to the corner of the house and then wait for a radio message from Addison. After this, walk to the other side of the building where Briggs is opening the window. Wait for a moment until he's finished, and then go through the window yourself. After this, open the steel door to the right and turn off the switchbox in the room. After that, send a radio message to Briggs and wait for Addisons radio message. Then you go to the first floor and turn off the switchbox there and after that you send a radio message to Addison. After that, go to the 2nd floor, open the steel door where there is no spotlight and turn off the switchbox. Then go to the room to the left and turn off the switchbox. Send a radio message to Briggs, and then disable the alarm system. Send another message to Briggs, then go to the southwest room and turn off the switchbox. After that, send a third message to Briggs and go to the basement (the lowest floor). Go to the room to the right and wait in front of the alarm system for a message from Briggs. After this, disable the alarm system and go to the room to the left where you find a switchbox and an alarm system. Disable the alarm system and turn the switchbox ON. Now the lights at the main door are on, but you aren't going to leave that way. Instead, go to the window to the left and leave through it. When you're outside, send a radio message to Briggs. Now, start the crime and if nothing goes wrong, the game is finished.

One of my most favourite games ever. This game was made by Neo (austria) which have also made Whales Voyage 1 + 2.

A neat trick that you can do is this" When Investigating a building, your suspicious rating will increase when time passes by (and accuracy rating will also increase, providing you with more info). To let the accuracy raise, but the suspicious stay the same (0%), hit enter on 'Investigate', then you see the message: "A police patrol passes by", quickly hit enter again to stop investigating, now hit 'Investigate' again, and follow the above steps. This way, time will stay the same, as the police patrol will pass by at the same hour over and over. Now, you'll easily get accuracy at 100%, and suspicious at 0%, so nobody will/can tell you were there." Thanks to Eastpolar from gamefaqs

It crashes for me as well. It doesn't matter where I try to rob after the third job it crashes.

I had the old game on the Amiga and I think you are supposed to be at Victoria station after the job.

Does anyone have any idea of what needs to be done to stop it crashing?

If you want an easy hotel room you just enter the hotel and say "I've booked a room in advance". "Under which name?" the man asks. If you respond "Mark Goldberg" he will think you are a millionaire and he gets you a room for free...

Does anyone remember the addon that was created for The Clue!?

If I remember rightly it added several more locations for you to burgle. I'm not too sure if the one on sourceforge, has it included or not.

Don't use Marc Smith as your accomplice, he will give you away easily.
Get all tools as soon as you can afford them.
Also visit the police station after 5th and 6th coup to distract Gludo and get info.

I did the coups in this order and the time I started it for some of them:
(There are of course lot of ways you can do this)

[1] Fulham Kiosk
[2] Aun't Emma's Shop - 03:31
[3] Old People's Home - 01:28 *1
[4] Old Curiosity Shop - 03:40 (changed car before this)
[5] Highgate Cemetary - *2 (changed car before this)
[7] Victoria and Albert Museum - 01:15
[8] Jeweller's - (changed car before this)
[9] Villa, Lillie Road - *3 (for this coup I recommend Miguel Garcia)

1) Warning: Karate grandpa will spot you at 03:20 it seems.
2) It doesn't matter if you have met Meresaw before this, you can meet her afterwards.
3) This is when the mafia plot begins (after you have stolen the suitcase). And even if
you don't, the suitcase will eventually end up in your room anyway it seems. And you'll have to use the jaguar as the escape car. I don't know how many you can get away with.

[10] Tower of London - It doesn't matter how well this goes, you will still be captured by the mafia.
So plan it as short as possible (you don't have to do much) and/or escape early.
(Kind of disappointing I know).

[11] STARFORD BARRACKS:

I don't know if you can succeed at doing this if you do it the way the mafia boss has planned.
The way to do this was described earlier on this forum,
only one word should be "alarm", rather than "spotlight", but it's easy to figure out.

Continue the plan and then choose "keep the plan". I played this in DOSBOX and had some small
graphical bugs in the planning areas, but nothing serious.

I did Starford barracks in about 45:00 minutes (used the quietest tools),
at 31:53 Marc Smith complains that something is wrong.

THE STORY AFTER EACH COUP:

1st coup - Herbert tells about "Blue Fish", you are stopped at street by inspector.
2nd coup - Newsflash on radio, "Blue Fish" failed.
3rd coup - At Victoria Station you read in the newspaper, blue fish arrested, Gludo in disguise.
4th coup - Arrested by Gludo for suspicion, but released after 24hrs lack of proof. You meet Sabien *4
5th coup - You fall asleep cutscene, you go to Sabien for parcel, at police station you distract Gludo.
6th coup - Sabien calls you for dinner, at police station you get info about the Tower, Sabien's father dies.
7th coup - Phone is ringing, it's Sabien. pub 18.08.53 happy birthday
8th coup - Phone is ringing, a note in your pocket, you get the mafia mission. You walk with Sabien.

9th coup - (if you choose the villa mission) You discover cocaine in suitcase. Jaguar is blown up.
You go to the country for a while. If you confess to Sabien there's analternate ending.

The Tower - Supposed to go wrong it seems **** Brigg joins mafia guys and turns on you.
Starford Barracks - See for yourself

4) There's an alternate ending here, where you borrow Lucas Grull's "Dimension breaking machine" (wtf?!)

I hope somebody found this useful.

I loved this game! Been a while since I played it, though. Many characters looked like real actor. I think Bruce Willis is in there somewhere, in his Hudson Hawk outfit. Never beat the last level, though. Found the solution as well, but haven't bothered playing through all the levels to try it out.

This game is awesome. I had it on my stationary pc before formatting it, and never got around to re-downloading it. Untill now :D
I just hope that vista and dosbox is more stable than Xp and no dosbox..

This game loses in details. It was quite cool that I broke into the british museum and stole the magna carta & rosetta's stone :). Too bad the game doesn't reward you for the hard work you need to do to succeed in breaking into important buildings. It seems like all you need to do is break into kiosk + seven random buildings without getting caught. The bank of England or Aunt Emma's makes no difference. Whether you pick up everything there is to be picked up or just break in and escape immediately also makes no difference.

I actually stole the crown jewels without the police finding out, but again no reward from the game except that jewelery worth 850000 pounds appeared in my houl list. I guess you have to use your imagination & assume that you took the jewels to France.

The barracks break-in is also quite frustrating. If you try to figure it out on your own, you end up with 3 accomplices who are forever waiting and you have no clue what they are waiting for. Addison's brief is incomplete and ambiguous & in the planning phase you have no way to tell whose message people are waiting for. I used the spoiler, which is something I hate, but I equally hate games that leave you clueless as to why things are happening or not happening :(.

Overall good game, could have been really great with some little care here and there.

The midis are also great, one of my favourite is the midi in the hotel room.

Great piece of art, it will be even better if they did the sequel by adjusting it a little and may be putting some car action afterwards

According to an earlier post, it'll end up in your hotel room anyway.

Try www.gamefaqs.com maybe.

I have to ask, is there any way to get past guards while staging your robbery? Even with chloroform and an accomplice who has a good "melee" skill, the guards always seem to spot me before I can knock them out.

Wicky
26-05-2011, 04:38 AM
Sneak upon them from behind. The best time to do so is then they make a short break in their patrol route. You'll need to have a higher melee skill than the guards (check "guard level" in the observation summary of the building)

This reminds me, I have played through this game 4 times, once on 386, then on 486, then on Pentium and then on Dosbox, some time ago.
The music is still un-matched by all means.

I downloaded The Clue! from this page http://www.abandonia.com/games/429
And it seems to contain 4 saves far into the game already.
I think there is a max 4 saves also...

When I start a new game and exit, I cant find my new game only the 4 old saves that are not mine.

How do I solve this? Can someone upload a proper clean version without old saves inside it?

Press F1 to save the game and then overwrite one of the pre-saved ones.

It won't save automatically. Thankfully I managed to find and download the manual to tell me how to save a game.
