View Full Version : How Do I Sound?

Alright, so I figured I would like to hear the input from the board members on my voice. Last time I was back to visit my brother, he asked if I wanted to record a some with him because he had free studio time. I said sure, he pulled together a bunch of his friends and made a little orchestra, and we made this recording. Background on myself: I'm a sixteen year-old tenor, taking lessons for a year and a half now. This was recorded about a month ago, and my voice has developed a little more brighter timbre, so as to sound more like a tenor, rather than a high baritone, but the quality is still almost the same. If the link comes up all funny, just right click, save as, and put .mp3 as the extension, and it should work. So....please tell me what you think. The song is E Luccevan Le Stelle, from Puccini's Tosca. Please give me feedback and constructive cricism (even YOU SUCKS if that's what you think) Thank you!

Really impressive. :ok:
Your voice breaks off on some places as I noticed. As if you wouldn't have enough air to continue, and just little longer and it would sound complete (I hope you understand what I mean). But you sing really professional, and important - with feeling. I don't know how much training in singing you already have, but I guess a little more lung training and you can start your career. ;)

yeah, I know I take some breaks in some parts of the phrases for a quick breath (like in the first run, just before the top two notes), but I did it mainly because I'm not at the point yet where I can do an upward passage like that, and then keep going up to a fermata on a high A. I had to sneak the breath. But thank you, I know I need to work on that a bit (although I think it's more a mental thing thang physical, because I can hold a note out for like, twenty three seconds before having to sneak a breath)

It opens a new window with gibberish. I tried saving as, but same thing - it's linked as an html file, I think.

when choosing the title to save as, did you put .mp3 after it? It worked for me that way

FlightorFight
17-02-2005, 06:51 PM
It doesn't work for me either! It won't let me save as mp3

ReamusLQ

don't select mp3 from the drop down, just type .mp3 after the name

I read on another forum some useful tips about improving your lung capacity.
One was this...
1.Find a large heavy book and a stopwatch
2.Lie down on the floor and place the book roughly where your lungs are.
3.Take a deep breath and then slowly exhale whilst timing yourself.
4.Repeat

This is very useful practise, I play trombone and it's helped improve my lung capacity. Good luck with your future singing.

i don't see a reason to critizise anything in this sample of your ability to sing!!

although this kind of music (opera style) is not excactly my cup of tea, i can clearly
tell from what i've heard, that you have great skills! your voice sounds strong and
firm, and the timbre and melodical flow are - as far as i can judge with my limited
experience in such style - very professional! RESPECT, mate....! :ok:

Hey if Julliard is paying you a part of the tuition, you know you have to be really good!!! Hope to hear more from you - am sure WE ALL will! :ok:
Listening to it it got me goose pimples - just like the first time Seb and I went to see/hear the Traviata...

Pavarotti huh? Thank you so much. Pavarotti, Carrera, and Domingo have always been my three favorite tenors (I think I like Domingo the best though.) I looked at joining San Jose Opera, but you need to be out of highschool to do it  They let me audition though, and they're trying to talk the board members into letting me at least do chorus for The Flying Dutchman (would be so great...it's a paying gig too.)

Quite impressive!!
You've got a really strong and mature voice, considering you're only 16.

Not even close.

If you do resemble one of the three tenors then it would be Domingo. Your voice doesn't have the olour of Pavarotti (although in his younger years his voice was a bit lighter).

Now if this is really you then I'm impressed.

There are a few things to say about the quality of the recording. Some background noises were heard.

Otherwise your voice caries fine, but I had the feeling like you weren't really warmed up yet. At some points it felt like you wanted to hold a note longer, but decided not to (I guess you weren't singing in front of the orchestra but had a playback - so you had to keep the tempo).

I would love to hear you in Il Pagliachi.

Pagliacci is really really cool. I like it a lot. Next time I'm with my bro, mayhaps I will lay it down.
