That's the nice thing about win98. It can run next to everything ever made for PC without a hitch. Once I get my new computer I am downgrading my winME machince to win98.

You only need to have some knowledge of config.sys and autoexec.bat files to make the whole thing work.

I've already downloaded a few games from here (and other abandonware sites as well)
so far all have worked... and i'm running them on WindowsXP
all I had to do was edit a line somewhere to enable EXX... or soemthing like that
don't even use dosbox... sometimes use VDMsound but most of the time I'm able to simply use the install included in the game (however i'm not sure at times... does 'Legend of Kyrandia' contain any speech... or is it all just music and textreading (since I didn't get any speech... same thign with Dune)

I know Dune contains some digitized speech in the intro but other then that there should be no speech. I doubt legend of Kyrandia contains much digitized speech either. The file size does not warrant it. Speech is too large for anything other then a cd-rom version of games.

UFO 1 runs on my pc ( winXP ) without the need of a emulator, with correct sound and normal speed... how is that done? UFO is a DOS game, have they made it to use DirectX somehow? Can it be done with other games as well?

Could just be that the code in UFO is not a specific DOS/9x/ME-code, and NT-machines 4/2k/XP reads it fine...

damn.. i remember i was pissed when i couldn't play some of my games i had for my A500 on my brand new A600 HD :( sucked... these games was hard-coded for the machine... those days...

Titan if that is the case, then the game is not only of a masterpiece of gameplay, but a masterpiece of programming too :)

I never played UFO on amiga... Only once i saw it playing on a A600 of a friend of mine, and it was awfully slow... it needed 1-2 hours to complete one mission... You had to be a very big fan of the game to be able to play it under this conditions! :)
