Really a great game. I remember playing it on the Amiga. It always was really fun playing it together with a friend an getting into this red alert stuff...
Letīs see if PC version rocks, too...

Read the instalation notes on the bottom of the review, after you install the game, copy/paste file PATCH.COM(it's in the archive) in the directory where you installed the game, it will ask you for a code but you can type in anthing now...

When I turn the game into the fullscreen mode, DosBox crashes down. What to do about it?

About those is it abandonware problems, before I supplied the game I checked out and I remember it being able for download on HotU and I saw it on Mobygames, I'll check it out and edit my post later(HotU is working verx slow for me)...
EDIT: I uploaded the game three weeks ago and I'm 100% sure It was free for download, I guess they were warned in the mean time, I'll inform Kosta about and he'll decide what to do...

EDIT2 : You can find an Alien Breed remake Here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/xavnet/alienbreed/)...

I wonder if that's legal...

aww man the remake sucks. its only 3 levels and its super easy because you can buy the ultimate gun RIGHT away and the boss dies from one hit!
:max: or maybe I'm just too damn good :max:

Hi - Just so you know, that remake is only an early version. The remake is currently under development and will be far more impressive when finished. It's not my project so I'm unable to give any details, but the current development build is much, much better - and the final version will have some ace features.

Thanks for the info :ok: ...
But noone from team17 complained for now, so who knows maybe when they will complain, the remake will be finished :P

Hi
Iam stuck on level 13 ( Final level ) of this game. Iam assuming its the final level as i have been told to get out by the shuttle after achieving my objective.

Code: JIECBFGFF ( for those who wanna try the level)

Problem is after achieving the objective i have 80 seconds to get to deck lift but there is no way in hell i can get there in that time. Maybe 90 sec would do it but even with my best effort iam atleast 10 sec short of reaching the lift.
If anyone can help me i would be gratful.

I have tried finding a faq or walkthrough for the game without much avail :(.

I'm guessing that's that level when your in dark, I can't say, I used a cheat to make a screenshot of the last level, this game is very hard...
I got to the 8th level...

Well i didnt find the game hard i got to the 13th level in about 4-5 hours. ( and i couldnt find the scanner key for first 10 levels its "M" key on keyboard)

Ofcourse i had played the game before on amiga and knew how to play it a bit.
Keep firing when you move forward and nothing will touch you.
also the best gun in game is laser 75000 and flame thrower for 48000 (if you cant buy lazer). all other suck

considering you got 4 lives to do 1 level i dont think this game is hard. most levels are doable without losing a life coz of the medikits and even if you lose one you got 3 more to spend.

if you are using a code to enter a level first thing you should do is get to a console and buy flame thrower. Without a gun you will lose all 4 lives in a matter of 1-2 minutes. once you get a decent gun dont hold fire there is too much ammo around to waste.

I hope i can finish this game

Woohoo ended the game. :rifle:

Had to skip one level the one where i was stuck.

But it was worth it.

However i cant shake the feeling the game i played on amiga was different than this coz i still remember there was this room in that game with a machine in centre and you had to destroy the outer portion of the machine or something

it never came in this alien breed.

Anyway onto prince of persia now

Console ports were not that great in that time either I guess...

I was just wondering apart from making more levels what else would you like to see improve this remake?

too easy? what do you think is the best way to make it harder? less ammo/health/money, tougher aliens and more complex maps are obvious but just wondering if anyone has other suggestions.

I've come against a brick wall ripping the original levels, if anyone is a wizard with winuae and can give some help email flashjesterpunk@yahoo.com

I know its a bit easy but working only by myself to that point is a lot of work, I decided to release as soon as I hit a 'playable' state to get some feedback on my solo effort.

I just made it for myself and had doubts whether anyone would even want to play a remake but from the feedback I found people like it and want more.

its difficult to know what to concentrate the little time I have on improving, ie should I make another level or improve AI which shows across all levels. (better aliens even if it is just 3 levels) I just wish I could do this full time and get paid.

anyway this looks like a cool site and your all welcome to email sugestions and feedback for the next release.

Hi,

I'm playing Alien Breed with another player. Player 1 uses a joystick (Gravis Gamepad) and player 2 the keyboard. The game is running in a DOSBOX on XP. Problem is: player one can't buy any weapons. When going to a terminal having enough money in the pockets to buy something, changing cursor to "yes" nothing happens when pressing any button on the gamepad or on the keyboard. Am I totally dumb? Buying keypacks or something else but weapons works fine.

Any help?

"A required .DLL file, DINPUT8.DLL, was not found" I don't know if it's my computer or if the download is missing it. But has anyone else run into this problem. Also, I've yet to try this on my computer with Windows XP, only on my old Windows 98. Could that be it.

this was what team 17 did, shamelessly use all the game cliches but do them as best as they could. Here, it's straightforward shooter with plenty of details nicked from the Alien films. The sound you hear when the game first loads is taken from 2010: Odyssey 2. When the game character dies the sound is ripped off their other game Assassin.

It's been nearly a year since the last post on this thread, so I'm not expecting a response, but I'm hoping I do.

I am currently playing the PC version, and like someone else who posted previously, I am also having a problem buying weapons. I have used both the joystick and keyboard, and when hitting "yes" to buy a weapon, nothing happens (despite having the credits). However, I am able to buy items like key packs. Anyone know why this is happening?

you know, i tried this out for myself and i can't seem to buy weapons neither
tried to buy the cheapest one, with fully loaded/unloaded clips, no change. neither firebutton 1 makes anything nor firebutton 2. can someone help?

what i can recommend you though is to try amiga remake (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/xavnet/alienbreed/). the dos version on the website is also only a port made by team17 after all

Select the weapon you want to buy (left/right arrow keys), purchase yes (up arrow) and press Ctrl to accept. At least this is how it works with the version I have :dunno:

It works for me, but we probably have a different version, we have a remake on AB that has not much to do with the original, so we can't be of much help.

i could have sworn this game was not protected like a few days ago

i downloaded it from here!
why is it protected now?

Because it's a Team17 game.

Dave

Actually it wasn't protected because we were offering a freeware remake, don't ask me why though.

.. i'm pretty sure the thing i've downloaded was the dos version a couple of days ago here

Dave
02-04-2010, 05:02 PM
That's not possible :mhh:, the version on FTP is the freeware remake, you can verify it yourself. Also I'm sure because I prepared the Alien Breed video for youtube at February (the archive was downloaded from here a couple of years ago) and reported that we were offering the freeware game to TotalAnarchy who removed the download and added the link into review.

You can see it here:
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?p=397034#post397034

And into updaters forums:
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?p=397043#post397043

But I don't know who substituted the original with the remake and when.

i was probably drunk or something and googled it up on a random abandonware site then:hypno:

I am the guest who posted around a month ago, and stated that I couldn't buy weapons in the PC version. Anyway, I was able to get a copy of Alien Breed SE for the Amiga going, and it's the same game (I'm guessing the people who ported AB to DOS ported the Special Edition rather than the original). The graphics and sound are clearly better, but it's also a lot harder. The aliens move much faster than in the DOS port. So far, I'm very pleased.

Dave
14-04-2010, 01:49 PM
Are you sure? I played both version and I didn't see such a big difference, actually I found Dos version harder because the respawn seems more aggressive. Maybe you didn't set the right cycles into DosBox?

Hello.
The recent update (posted by DarthHelmet86 // 24-09-2011) mentions:
"We bring you a manual and diskette image for the great game Alien Breed, sadly the game is protected by the ESA but for those who have it or are collectors of manuals and the like scoot on over and get these hard fought for extras."

The manual is now available on the game page but not the diskette image. Is that an oversight or is it because the game is still ESA protected?

Thank you.
