Hi,
I know Arcanum is not abandonware and not too old but does any one ever play it online? I mean it has one of the greatest multiplayer capabilities and its a shame there are no games for it. Anyone interested??

Actually,
it seems to be a metaphor of the cycle of life,
(except that itīs missing the sickness, disgustness & idiotism) -

Oh,
And itīs useless too, yes /-

I thought he added the picture to show the general behavior of players in online games... I think it fits quite well. :)

No. Actually it ssupposed to show the way people cut one another up in forums without seeing the point of the threads they post on. By the way have any of you got anything to say about the topic?

Since I'm still kind of annoyed by the attached image and that I don't even know the game in question, I guess the answer to that question would be: not at all.

You have made a poll concerning Arcanum, as there were zero votes for the multiplayer, I think not many people here have tried it. ;)

Love the gritty animation hanut. It does depict the attitudes of some, does it not? "*whine, sob, cry*"

Id love to play Arcanum sometime. Its a great game..... esp in Multiplayer Mode. I've got the game with all of the extra quest that Troika Games released. I dont have alot of extra time for things like that, but if we set a time aside.......

I used to live with a few friends.... we all had our boxes hooked up and we would play that game for hours..... its a little dated but a classic no doubt. I've heard rumor of an Arcanum 2 is in the works, but nothing official yet...... *crosses his fingers*

When did you hear that? Sadly Trojka, the makers of Arcanum, had to close down for good just recently. A sad day for the cRPG genre... :/

I read that the rights to the Arcanum name were sold to another company. This hopefully means that somebody will develope a sequel.... i said it wasn't official.......

Would be cool to see a sequel to that game. I suppose you don't remember the source where you read it?

I believe i read it in a copy of Platform PC Magazine. It was about .... gheeze... 6 months ago now... several issues ago. Like I said, it was nothing official. More of a gossip collom.

Ah, I remember Arcanum. Really awesome game. I even tried making a pnp version with a group of mine a long time ago, it worked for awhile - yet we all got bored and went off to play Frogger or something (Yes, very boring life we led) anyway - yeah, Arcanum 2 would have been great, there was actually a Yahoo group that supposedly was working on a 'mod' for it, but it was just that - a mod just labeled as "Arcanum 2", really didn't catch my interest even though I was asked to be on the design team. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. You may be able to find some information on the mod they're making if you look hard enough - honestly, I say just let it rest in peace.

As for your question, I did play Arcanum online a few times when I had dialup *shudders* it was laggy and slow. Now that I havd DSL it may be different, but I haven't tried.

As Long as we're on the subject, Mad-E-fact, i find your avatar
kind of inappropriate. kind of sick.

I like Arcanum at least for a little bit, after I get halfway through it though I start getting tired of it, I wish they had a little more variation in it so I could replay it.
Plus after my 100th ailing wolf they become really tedious LOL

I agree the combat got very repetitious. Knocking yourself out all the time didn't help either.

I like Mad-E-Fact's Avatar. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :-)

I was under the impression that Arcanum was the subject of this thread. Nevertheless, it saddens me greatly that you find my avatar to be inappropriate. I shall do my best to find one that's more to your liking.

Did anyone actually ever finish Virgil's quest? I couldn't help either killing him or winning every time I got close to beating it.....

The only character I ever kept past getting them was Sogg Mead Mugg. He was awesome! But having a stupid ogre was the best: "You stupid Voigal! You stupid me smawt! I do talkin now Voigal!"

I gave up on Arcanum after my 30th trek back and forth between the Wheel Clan mines and the big city... the one with the train... aarrgh, brain fart! :wall:

Anyway, yes, it was a great game until my shotgun-toting, molotov-chucking dwarf and his idiotic companions (Virgil and Dog! Woo! Go, non-tech companions!) kept doing the same thing over and over and over and over again. It was such an awesome setting that, to my knowledge, nobody has repeated since, and it had such a deep storyline (or potential for one, anyway) that I feel a little guilty for bailing on it . :(

Maybe once I work through my growing collection of abandonware (must... relive... childhood!) I'll ressurrect Sulir Hairsparks IV and give Arcanum another shot and, who knows, maybe we can get some multiplay happening.

That's why I played an elven magicienne who quickly learned Teleport spell.

it had such a deep storyline

Yeah, except you quit playing before you got halfway through... And there is much more to the plot, since some twists you discover on the very ending...

Arcanum is my favorite RPG, but I never tried it on-line, how does that work, like co-op or something?
Is it nesesary to download something to play it on-line?

Essentially it's co-op. And good, since the battles are played real-time and the enemies are much stronger than in SP.

Everything you need is already in the game, altough you might want to download additional scenarios for more variety.

i think arcanum is more of a single player experience. While being one of the best crpgs in my opinion, it wouldnt play so well multi

Arcanum is truly a genious RPG ..but there is also a lot of downsides about the game.. but its still one of the best games i've ever played (but i've never managed to win it D: ..)

multiplayer would be fun

If my pc was faster, I was playing with _r.u.s.s., Tomekk, and TheChosen, but i lagged em' to much, so being the genorous stealthy gentalman barbarian that I am, left them so they would have a fast game

Sigh

Since WON is dead, internet games don't work.
But there is a program named GameRanger (http://www.gameranger.com/) which supports Arcanum and essentially allows you to set up a network game.
The only downfall with this is the game only saves your character's STATS so if you got rich while playing, the next day you'll only have your starting items.
