what exactly is exult? is it a windows programm? a dos tool?

It's a game engine for windows that runs U7.

And like Data has said, Pentagram (http://pentagram.sourceforge.net/) is what you should be after. Although, it isn't as complete as Exult is, and you cannot complete the game yet as far as I know.

If you want to play it right through though, and have time to muck about trying to get it to work, then http://members.iinet.net.au/~rsd/ is your best bet.
