The graphics aren't displaying properly. I'm running it under XP with DOSBox 0.61. When Larry moves, it streaks behind him, like the background isn't refreshing or something.

Anyone have this problem?

I have that problem too, if I open the game in dosbox. But on my computer it runs fine in pure xp, without any errors! Try that.

Best for these type of games, to not use DosBox, but Nagi (http://www.agidev.com)

Nagi?

Never heard of....

Those really old games, like Leisure Suit Larry 1, are AGI games. It stands for Adventure Game Interpreter. Nagi stands for New Adventure Game Interpreter. It's one made by Nick Sonneveld in order to run adventure games like these under Windows and Windows XP.

How do I open the file. The properties do not show what type of file it is. All it shows is file (i.e. type of file: file).

Kon-Tiki
02-10-2004, 06:16 PM
You mean the file agi? It's a checkup file without an extension. Needed to run the game with the old interpreter, but to start the game itself with the old one, just run the .exe file.

Don't worry, that's something that can happen now and then, when you're a bit confused.

As Michael says 'you are not alone, I am here with you...' :bye:
But seriously theres heaps of girls here.

To download the game from the forum section click on page one of the forum (link found at very bottom or very top of page) and on the first post click the Review + Download link. Ahh, in this case this is page one :ok:
Takes you to the review of the game where you need to click Get it, which takes you to the download page with the download link.

Yes it is the full version (im pretty sure?!), as all Abandonia is very giving :Brain:
Games are usually accessed via the left hand menu genres under Games. For example, the Larry series is found under the Adventure section. Congratuations on finding this site!

Little bit :ot: NAGI is really great stuff! Shouldn't it be in the Utilities > Programs -section? ScummVM is there as well, after all ...

Larry in the Land of Lounge Lizards is really ahead of its time if you think about it. This is a great game to play through a couple times to try new things. Heres a hint, for extra points when the condom is used, and your work is done, remove it and it gives you bonus points! :sneaky:

Kon-Tiki

Not to mention the humor in it.

"Hey miiiiiiiister, here's your small, lubricated, mint-flavoured condom!" :D

No, you JUST get arrested, there you see how efficient the police force in 1987 was when they arrested someone wearing a condom, 5 seconds after he takes a step onto the street.

Just tested the download under DosBox 0.63 and it shows the text fine here... I'll check the AGI community for any reports on this... I remember hearing 'bout it before, but didn't pay much attention to it, I'm afraid. Will get back to you once I've found more.

originally this game was made and owned by sierra, now the thing is protected from download under ESA?? there I can't find sierra- so that would mean sierra doesn't own the game anymore?

Can anybody tell me which company I should approach to get the full versions of kingsquest, policequest, larry etc?

Thanks, Maarten

That would be the Vivendi Group (http://www.vivendiuniversal.com/vu/en/home/index.cfm.htm); they bought the rights to Sierra games several years ago. As far as I know they're a huge company, though, so your chances of success won't be too high. Another thing you might always try would be to get those games secondhand, i.e. through ebay etc. They can be quite expensive, though, especially if you want to buy the collections rather than the individual games.
Anyway, good luck in your Sierra Quest.;)

I Guess its a bit late to reaquire them- the corporation you named doesn't even list them at their page... There is a fairly recent Larry though.

Thanks again

Assuming WRONG!
It says NO-GO, so you are not allowed.
You could download if it would say GET IT HERE (but that's not the case with Larry games). Try something else instead ;)

This game is protected byt the copyright owner. I'm sorry, but you cannot download it from here.

As for how to use WinZip... read its readme. It should tell you all you need to know about using the program.

PS. If my memory serves right, there should be a compilation of Leisure Suit Larry games still sold somewhere.

hi there...

I feel like a dummy asking this, but it seems that I can't download this game because the 'download this game' icon does not appear. Instead there is a 'Entertainment Software Assocation NO 90!' icon, which doesn't download the game...
Really unfortunate, because I have been playing this game a lot during my youth...So it's like nostalgie to play it again! :)

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks...

Hey guys,
How come this game is protected? It's more then 20 years old. It's not like there's some place I can buy the original (not talking about second hand). And I don't think anyone would buy it today to play it unless it's nostalgic for him. Do you have any idea why is it protected?

TheChosen
13-09-2008, 05:13 PM
Because it is. Sierra is still supporting this game and as long as it will, we cant host it.

You can buy the whole LSL series from the Sierra store.

liran218

Well, as long as it's protected, I surely do not expect you to host it, but at least now I see why it's protected.
Thank you!
(And thanks for the link)

why does none of these games work?

TheChosen
26-09-2008, 05:50 AM
Probably because:

A. Youre trying to download ESA-protected games, which arent available for download
B. Even If you got something, you probably just try to run it just by "as-is". Use Dosbox. If you need help with it, read the guide we have.

One of the first game I ever played. Took me ages to finish! Hated the casino and the slots. Save - restore - save - restore etc. Recently acquired the VGA remake but I've yet to play it.

Yeah, great game - a bit short but still fun! This is one of my favorite adventure series actually - as long as you don't take it too seriously.

I've seen the Leisure Suit Larry collection at Big Lots stores (off and on for the past couple years), and more often I've seen Police Quest collection and Space Quest Collection. I got the LSL collection and Police Quest collection for $4 each. So maybe y'all can check out any Big Lots stores near you and see if they have any Sierra collections. I've seen a couple other Sierra games there also!

This was the first adventure game that I ever played (many many years ago) and I was hooked straight away. I played nearly every Quest game that Sierra made and any other adventure game I could get my hands on.
After years of being sidetracked by consoles and working life, I have decided to go back and revisit the time when I had to think about games and not just run around hitting things. So it is fitting that I start again with Larry Laffer and plan to work my way through as many games as possible. Thank God that this site exists (and that I kept as many of my games as possible - which is a good job as most are still protected) and I hope that I have many great nights ahead. As long as my wife doesn't complain.

This was also one of my first adventure game and I played it when I was a young boy. I remember that anyone that I knew back then had played the game at least once. I played at a friend's home and we had to play it in secret

Now I see this game again, and I wonder what was the fuss about (not about the game, but about the "naughty" status of the game. Now it seems almost innocent )

Those really old games, like Leisure Suit Larry 1, are AGI games. It stands for Adventure Game Interpreter. Nagi stands for New Adventure Game Interpreter. It's one made by Nick Sonneveld in order to run adventure games like these under Windows and Windows XP.
I used the Nagi but its still not compatible with 64 bit windows, is there any way to make it compatible??
