I don't trust demos much they just show you the surperb intro and let u play the best ingame mission and don't show you the lisfespan or the flaws of the game well thats my opinion
but great advice :ok:

I have played this game extensively and I have to say no, it is not worth it to upgrade for just this game. It is not as good as Medieval was and suffers from a lot of bugs. There is a major patch in the works that is being hyped almost as much as the game itself but we will need to wait and see what it offers.
Don't get me wrong Rome: Total War is a good game but the many bugs make it frustrating and the lack of certain basic features (like an overview of what all your cities are producing) makes it teadious at times.
The Demo covers only a small portion of the game (the combat). There are a few mods for the demo that let you pick your own army and fight on either map that is in the demo.

I agree, the best way to find out if a game is really worth your money is to ask fellow gamers.I hope this thread will grow in time with such requests(if enough accumulate maybe i'll pin it)
Great idea xcom :ok:

I got Rome: Total War yesterday, it is a very good game with lots of (good) new features. I would cetainly advise buying it if your PC is up to runnig it as the game is that good but not worth upgrading for as it's not $200 good (if you see what I mean).

Hmm, xcom freak , it may not be worth upgrading you rig for 200$ just for R:TW, but you'll get to play many other games in the future, anyway,
R:TW is great howver, and besides what's your configuration? It works on my AMD XP2000,GF4 MX400,256 DDR RAM, in 800*600 resolution(for the battlefield).
Good idea for a topic :ok:

Personally, I think that Armies of Exigo looks more exciting. But if I were you, I'd upgrade my PC anyway so I could play KOTOR II :D

I never played the game, but upgrading depends on whether you want to pay the $200 now or later. If you upgrade now there will be new and better software in a couple of months and you'll just be left behind again.
But I can't wait for KotOR 2 loved the first.

Picard's comments are entirely reasonable. Basically, the development team for R:TW has used players for the last two months as a team of beta testers. There are many, many bugs (some game killers, most not). The devs even had the gall to say in the Rome:TW forums that they were waiting on putting out a patch until the game had been thoroughly tried out and all feedback had been received. Best to wait and see what's it like when it's finished.
And even then, if you wait a few months, you'll probably be able to buy it much more cheaply secondhand at eBay, Amazon and the like. There are many other fine games out there that have been in release for some time, and will help you save some cash.

Your config is good. Ill sugest u the GeForce 6 series. The 6600Gt is about 200$. Of course u can buy something cheaper if u dont want to spend all of your money. just make sure taht u have an AGPx8 or a PCIex16 slot for the GF. And also buy the model for the slot u have :ok:

Well I like the thief series, they were made long before Splinter cell, so Pandora tommorow would be thief 3 in the modern ages :D

Yeah I saw myself playing Doom3 too(the demo at least), with 10 FPS, and besides with GF FX5200 the games would run with the same speed as my MX card, radeon 9200 would be a better choice , but i'll rather wait for some time and buy a new computer.

you could always buy a mac mini ;)

Do not EVER buy a GF FX card (5200, 5700, etc.) They are overpriced and underpowered. Sure they have DX9 features but they lack the power to switch them on in any kind of graphically intensive game. If you want a good graphics card try ATI's range in that category (9600 PRO or XT, and if you can find one 9700) those are good quality cards and worth the price you pay for them. If you want a slightly more expensive card that offers a lot more then NVIDIA is the company for you at the moment with their excellent 6600GT (as mentioned before) and even a bottom ranged 6800 LE.
That said, this is a sofware topic not a hardware topic lets keep it that way.

What's that?
I don't think that MACs are good for gaming, or for anything else...(Not that I want to turn this topic into MAC vs. PC)
the mac mini suggestion is stupid. here (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/?t=archives&date=2004-07-03) is proof of that
