I don't know if there is an ideal ammount of cycles set.
I suggest you simply try running it with exult... I have and it works like a charm.
(the link to exult can be found in the review)

There's just nothing better for Ultima VII like Exult.

It is an "programm" that can run Ultima VII under Windows without any problems with memory or being too fast. It is located here, free for download: http://exult.sourceforge.net/

unfortunatly it will ONLY run Ultima VII not any other program.

But it supports all four Ultima VII parts.

1. DosBox is only able to run Dos-only games
2. If you still use Ms-Dos on your pc, it may be much too slow for it anyway, you need at least P4 with 1.5 Ghz or AMD with similar speed.
Now to play a game under DosBox:
1. Start DosBox, type mount c c:/games/lba (example, where for first c is a letter which DosBox uses to indicate a mounted game's directory, could be any other letter too, like F or V, doesn't matter; c:/games/lba is directory of the game you want to run.)
2. Type "c"
3. Start the game with it's .exe file
That's it, if you still have questions, ask, I'll try to answer
