I cant believe they still sell that game

So If you find a game for sale anywhere it wont be added to Abandonia? Even places like E-bay or retrosoftware.com ?

MrBackAlleySka

E-Bay, not so much, because that's an individual consumer selling the product via personal trade. Retrogames however, yeh. I'd think if a game's sold there, it may not be abandonware. However I could be wrong, there's not much I know about Retrogames.

Rule of thumb: If the developers/publishers still get money from the sales, it's not Abandonware. Ebay's a good example of not being a reference for being abandonware or not. CD-Access, Sold Out and the developers/publishers' websites're examples of references that do show whether a game's abandonware or not.

Thanks for the info :ok: Ill make sure to check those sites in the future aswell as the ESA list before requesting any other game.

Ill keep a eye on Yukon trail also, I think it may become true abandonware in the not to distant future and would be great on the site.

I definitely think it's abandonware.
Only problem, I have absolutly no idea where to find it.

It's not Yukon Trail I like, my mistake. It's called Oregon Trail.

Download it from XTC Abandonware

We don't have Oregon on here yet?
Blasphemy!

You want Oregon?

Blood-Pigggy

1993...deluxe edition

Sounds fine.
Now, what you'd like to do is contact Tom or Kosta (via Personal Message).
Ask them for the Ftp adress (password and such).
Then follow this link.
FTP TUTORIAL (http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2908)
Once you've done that, create your own folder on the server, and upload your file in that folder.

If you'd like to, you can write a review, (should be a good length, not horribly short), use Dosbox to get a few screenshots. And then upload all that.

If you don't want to write a review or get screens, you can just add the game, and it will be added to a list where a member can come along, write a review for it, and take screenshots.
After awhile the game will be added to the frontpage for all to download.
It sounds confusing, but it's VERY easy.

Yukon trail is a game much like Oregon Trail but its set in the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897. You start in Seattle, Washington and have to make your way to Dawson City where you stake a claim and take part in mining the gold in them dar hills :D It was a very fun game IMHO. Plus the game is even educational and teaches you alittle history.

I started a thread awhile back requesting it since its quite old and not made by a ESA company. But I was told since they still sell it at some sites they cant have it on abandonia  Too bad it was a fun game and would have been a great game to add to the site.

I saw that the Yukon Trail was considered abandonedware material, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Could someone please upload it? Please? :D

Don't think it is abandoned, I just found a site selling copies of it for $20.

Could you please give me a link to that page, so that I may update the AW List, then?

i think, abandonia should get permission from this game creators, that abandonia could upload. But this is only my mind, right ?

The Fifth Horseman

It depends. Creators don't always keep the copyrights, and we are not always succesful in contacting the copyright holders. By that, I do not mean a negative reply but simple lack of any reply whatsoever.

That is why there are certain time-period restrictions and the definite 15-year limit after which we consider any game to be abandoned unless it is still sold.

Or we get a message from the creator/company/ESA asking us to please remove the game, as sometimes happen with games that are older than 15 years. Like Altered Beast and Castlevania, but also the early Sierra Quest games.

I have a hardcopy of The Yukon Trail, and if it is considered abandonware, it may be possible to share it, particularly if anyone has suggestions on how it can be played. It seems to be one of those games made specifically for Windows, but doesn't play nice with Windows 7/8, unfortunately. I also don't know how to get it working on DosBOX because...well, that's DOS, not Windows, and I'm not sure if old versions of Windows can legally (or practically) be installed and loaded in DosBOX.

Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome.

Hard copy of the game sounds awesome please do share it :D

You can use DOSBox for win 3.11
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=27770
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=20298

Not sure really, but I think for Win95-98 and after, you need virtual machine. Since the game is from 1994, it can probably runs in either 3.11 and 95.

So, what do you have besides the disc? Please scan everything and create a disc image. I'll send you PM how to upload it.

Ouizardus

Before doing this, it still seems like this was rejected, as it was unclear that this was actually abandonware. There should be another check with sufficient evidence that it is abandonware. I, of course, don't want to get nailed with lawsuits.

For a game 20 years old? Somehow I doubt ESA will waste their nails for that :)

Anyway, game is in approved section, but since you requested, I'll move the topic for status recheck.

So, status?
