I really want Dungeon Keeper Gold, I downloaded it from The Underdogs (http://www.the-underdogs.org), but I cant seem to get it to run. If someone can help me, or tell me somewhere with an easier download, OR, better yet, if someone could upload it onto abandonia, that would be great.

ALSO, is Dungeon Keeper Gold (This is the first one mind) abandonware. I think it is cause there was another (Not working) download on their website!

Thanx!

Bullfrog is no more, and I haven't seen it available anywhere for a number of years. Should be abandonware.

It's not, you can still buy jewel cases for this game.

It's pretty much in debate whether this is abandonware or not, so I went on a little research crusade.

EA still holds rights to Bullfrog's games, so that's one nick for no. They even have the licensing rights, so we might see a sequel for DK, one day at least, that's another no.

I dunno, HOTU is a pretty decent site though.

There's a difference between a game that's still being supported and being sold. EA may just be getting rid of their old stock. Or maybe you can buy it from a website, etc.

HOTU's version works fine for me. When you open the zip file and extract the different files (DungeonKeeper1.zip, or something like that) Does it say that any of the files are corrupt or broken? Because if a single file doesn't work in the entire zip, it tears out a chunk of it anyway, that might be the problem.

The first time I downloaded it, it kept asking me for the CD (It shows a disk with a question mark).

yes, the disc with the question mark thing i found very difficult to bypass the first time i tried it, i had to change it so that it looked for a certain folder rather than the cd when i booted it up, and put the contents of the cd in that folder.

If you actually read the .nfo file in the archive, which tells you what to do, you must open keeper.cfg and change the directory to that where you installed the game or install the game to the path in keeper.cfg either will work! :D

dungeon keeper definatly works on 98. I think it is a dos game because when i try dungeon keeper on xp i keep getting a weird error. This might be because I still have to patch it but i have not tried this yet.

It ran first time for me on XP. What weird error?

As far as I'm concerned it's definately abandonware because:

1) You cannot buy it brand new anywhere - certainly not from EA, Amazon or CDAccess.
2) I'm fairly certain EA do not offer technical support for it anymore and it is not mentioned anywhere on the eagames website.

So if someone wanted to put it on the site, I don't think there would be a problem!

I bought DK Gold about 7 years ago. I could upload the ISO(400MB?!?) or someone could teach me how to crack it.

Well, the download from HOTU is 75MB but they got it down to that by taking out the version of the game that will run on non-Direct3D/3DFx cards.

This is probably why so many people are having trouble with it. That HOTU archive will only support a limited number of graphics cards and some of them need you to run the 3Dfx-D3D fix before running it!

If we had it on Abandonia I think we would have to have the full thing so everyboady would be able to run it. A 400Mb ISO wouldn't bother me but I suspect Kosta would probably view it a bit differently! LOL

Full game with addon Deeper Dungeons is around 300 MB uncompressed.

Well, as it's still not clear if it's abandoned or not, and whether it's too large for the site or not, I'll need first a word from authorized person(s) to upload my full game + addon Deeper Dungeons (around 220 MB compressed). ;)

this has actually been requested twice before (first time by me) :)

Don't set your hopes too high, while 220 megs is low enough to consider, it's also big enough to drop it.

Only Kosta can decide on this.

220 MB's is over twice the allowed size. This wil deffinitly not go on abandonia.

is 220mb including cinematics though? because without them the game could be a lot smaller, but still fun.

HOTU got it down to 75MB - I just don't know how they did it! It seems to work pretty well!

Wahoo

if i could install that and still insert my cd somehow to play the cinematics then awesome :)

btw, if you have played it, on lvl 4 i like just letting my army all get to lvl 10 then wiping the enemy out completely.

Same goes for lvl 13, except on lvl 13 you get tonnes of cool monsters all lvl 10 to play with :O, i ended up with around 6 lvl 10 horned reapers, needless to say in the end they didn't last long :P

It's called malign.nfo

It probably calls itself an MSInfo document. You need to right click, goto open with and then select notepad.
