So, I've got a new "let's play" channel on Youtube. It'll generally regard older titles, so, I hope ya'll enjoy it. The first game is "Ecoquest: Search for Cetus."

The first couple videos probably won't be up for a couple of hours from this post, but, here's the head's up.
(I hope this isn't against the whole "spamming" thing, the way I understand it, it's not.)
I was also looking for some advice on getting the video to look a bit crisper. Youtube seems to make it look like blurry terribleness.

to make it as crispy as it gets, convert it manually to flv before uploading to youtube. there are some specific settings to check in order to make youtube not-convert it too, but i forgot now. just google it up
edit: nvm, i see the upload hack doesn't work anymore (http://help.youtube.com/group/youtube-howto/browse_thread/thread/6a0e585557bccb71/42e90827d3442936)

So, what can I use to convert it to flv? Cause, I'm using Windows Movie Maker . ugh.... my soul just flinched at saying that....
I mean, for a game like this, it seems ok, but, when I start doing high-res (like the next one I plan to do is Blade Runner) then it'll start showing poorly.

For my Lets Play Youtube I use Camstudio, it comes out as an .avi file, and some lossless codec. I find my youtube videos aren't downgraded.
Thats mine. Have a look see. (http://www.youtube.com/user/Darthhelmet86)

Ah, ok. Camstudio, I've heard of that, gotta learn to work it well, then, I guess. AVI lossless, then.

I can't promise it will work, as I don't know a lot about video recording and stuff like that. But a lot of the lets players on youtube use it. It is pretty easy to use, just download it and its codec from its site.

if you're gonna use loseless avis make sure to prepare enough space

I was recording Commodore games last night and 10 minutes of uncompressed frames was about 2,5 GB, and after repairing fps to match the sound with VirtualDub, the file became over 4GB....
I recommend making DivX from the beginning - you can always check how does it look like - click here (http://www.youtube.com/user/bobsat666)

With Camstudio most of my recordings, of about ten minutes come out at 300mb to 400mb.

dude... Fraps combined with Windows Movie Maker makes a 15 minute video at around 100 mb's, the biggest problem I have with my LP is my voice(I'm only doing one right now, TRON 2.0)
If you truly seek my (pitiful) creation, you will find it here (http://www.youtube.com/user/Jironobou69)

While you have to use Fraps then Windows Media Maker, I use Camstudio only, it records my voice while I am recording the actually game. Then it is ready for Youtube, or to be compressed. As I said you will find most Youtube Lets Players use Camstudio.

the only problem I have with relying on Camstudio is that I can never play a game for just 15 minute segments, which is why I use WMM to compile the video into 15 minute(or less) segments.

btw, Thomme, how do you save it, from the "File>Save As" menu, or the "Save to my CPU" on the left?
NOTE: This might be important for the sake of quality.

OK, so I used Cam Studio to record 10 minute portions of Blade Runner, but the sound kept getting desynced. So I used Virtual Dub to resync it, but the files come out to be 20+gigs for 10 minutes of video, because Virtual Dub saves in "raw" AVI. But when I try to save it as anything else (Like CamStudio lossless, Microsoft R1 or V70) it ends up a garbled mess of weird noise, inverted colors and badness. Any advice for resyncing a video without making it too big?

You can choose compression under Video -> Compression in Virtual Dub
It should make the files lighter :)

why just 10 minute periods? does a 15 minute period cause problems?

why just 10 minute periods? does a 15 minute period cause problems? The videos go anywhere from 8-15 minutes depending on chapter breaks and the likes. I'm just more concerned with syncing and size right now.
