May as well add a "Writing" forum to go with drawing and music..

Writings goes in the same place as the other arts. No need to create a a new section for it.

Indeed. Opps.

Well, writing can't be described as music, and the description of the "Art" forum says that it's a place to post your art portfolio. Although writing is an art, one does not keep a writing portfolio.

I don't think the misconception is astounding, but if you really think it could be misunderstood I guess an Admin could rename that description...

Actually you do. A free lance writer keeps a portfolio to show a potential employer what he or she can do.

Even if they did, people on message boards don't often read other people's writing projects.

There are plenty of forum that have a writing section. The art section is not a frequently visisted place anyhow. It is not there for everyone just the people who want to make use of it.

I know that, but it would make more sense to have a writing board where people could also ask for writing advice and proofreading than it would to have a place for people to submit their work for public approval.

You can do what you want with your writing in the art section. If you want help then ask for it. If you just want to place it online so people can enjoy what you have writen then that is fine as well.

Well, the art forum doesn't specifically mention anything about writing, therefore people would most likely assume that the board is for visual rather than literary art.

Maybe but it does say all other forms of art. We cannot lead everyone by the hand all the time. Sometimes people need to figure things out for themselves.

It's better to assume that it IS indeed a forum for visual arts than it is to risk being chewed out for being a forum noob.
Edit: And by your logic, music should be part of the art forum since music is also an art form.

I trust nobody will flame over this discussion... :Titan: :butcher:

The forum layout is just fine the way it is.

As I said before, new members won't post writing related topics for fear of being flamed.

I don't see the point einherjar. If people fear about posting writtings because they could get flamed, then so be it. As far as the logic goes, it's exactly the same for images or music.

Writing can very well be put in the Art section. No need to change it. In my opinion we shouldn't make to many subforums for art-related stuff here because frankly...we are an abandonware site and not an art community!
We got the art section because a lot of people here like to share their art, be it visual, musical, literal. So you can put it in the 'Arts' section.

Then explain why there's a music forum. Music is an art.

We can merge the two if it would ease your mind ;)

Well, it makes no sense to have an art forum for music and an art forum for all other art forms.

Forgive me for proving a point. I know not everyone likes being proven wrong, and many people often take it as hostility.

Excuse me einherjar, but you seems to have made 9 points so far on this thread and you are not even the topic starter...
Maikel
20-01-2005, 03:35 PM
Well first we only had an art forum. People started to post a lot about music, so we decided to split the forums in 2. Now that there is one person who wants to share his writing, which I think is very cool, we won't open a complete new section for that particular person. When however there are more people starting to post their lyrics / copywriting, we might consider to create a new subdivision for writing.

You mean posts? I may not have started the topic, but I have done my best to support the topic starter's suggestion.
Edit: Maikel, that's just my point. New people are less likely to post writing threads on a board that appears to be made for the visual arts. Even a minor change to the Art board description may be enough to fix that.

Then they won't place writing threads there. It's up to them. But if you have some writing to post there, feel free to do that. ;)
Btw., I think this discussion starts to become pointless...
einherjar

Threads like this become useless when someone proves a point and everyone else is too ashamed to admit it or keep fighting a losing battle.
FreeFreddy
20-01-2005, 04:25 PM
To admit what? That people would less likey post theirs writing-threads in the art section? I think they can say that themselves, too.
No need to fight a battle here, it's a forum, not a battlefield. You placed your opinion, we got it. You've been given an answer. Not enough for you?..
einherjar
20-01-2005, 04:26 PM
Other people made this thread a battlefield.
