Hmm. So, another Windows game on Abandonia?
Yep, The Sting! is a fine game, albeit limited. It's as if it was planned to be totally open from the beginning, but - perhaps because of lack of time - the developers decided to limit the possible burglary targets into predefined buildings. Pity, would have been nice to choose your own targets.
Fun while it lasts, though.

Hmmm... XP only. A shame, really, because I kept Win 98SE so that I didn't have to go with any of this DosBOX malarkey.
Sure it won't work for 98?

Give it a go. :) I have Win98 as well and I don't know any game on it that doesn't work....and I've tried nearly all - from the oldest to the latest. There's isn't an icon to choose for Windows 9+ so I can't add that choice. This is probably because every game works on the Win9+ OS, so it's a waste of time adding it.

Yup, works smoothly under Win98SE (although when I close it, I get a message that Ddhelp crashed. Java/DirectX problem on my part, though). To get it to work without it asking for the cd, you've got to create the good ol' habbit of starting the setup-file first. In this case: setup.bat. I found out it only popped up a screen that said the game was cracked now.

I consider strategy my favorite genre of gaming, but I just can't seem to get into this game. I guess its because of the limited gameplay, but I don't know. Maybe its an aquired taste? Or maybe I need to play it more?

Sting.exe: Please insert CD
Setupreg: error creating the key
Why is that?
I tried dosbox but it says cannot run in dos mode.

I agree.
The clue is much better than the sting, I prefer the 2D-action :)
I believe there's even an open source project remaking the clue in windows... :max:

I`m now at the second robbery of the game (the old lady) and it`s really easy...only it takes so many times

You haven't tried the cinema yet then. Might seem easy enough when planning, but then running it... some cop walks along the street, you don't notice it, but your character does fall in the far outside corner of the cop's view. Tadaa! Half an hour of planning down the drain, as you can't go back, edit that part a bit and leave the rest in.
Btw... ever tried taking your axe out on the old lady?

Except if you follow the shop links you'll get to either Play.com (which no longer has any mention of it at all on their web site) or Amazon (which only has second-hand copies from other sellers listed).

With unlimited retries (no penalty) and no AI opposition (the guards in levels are completely consistent in movement) I think it's more of a puzzle game.

Blow! It appears you might be right. However, Hotu have the game listed as abandonware on their site, and they rarely make a mistake. Kosta is investigating this as I type and he will take the appropriate action.

Kinda am stuck at choosing between the greenhouse, hotel and boxing club. For the boxing club, I need the soldering tool and the car, and I can only afford one of them. For the greenhouse, I need some pretty damn fast runner, which takes most of the loot, leaving 'bout 34% for me. For the hotel, I'd need a good safecracker, which I just don't have. Stuck... stuck I tell you! Tried to hack the savegame, but there's too much difference between the same two savegames (with one being a bit further in the game, but on the same spot... just buying one object, so the amount of money's different), nor does a search in a hex editor prove useful (or efficient)

It's fun but it's really hard, I have to be extra careful with all my plans even the slightest mistake gets me caught. I believe had to play the first mission at least 10 times over to get used to it.

Thing is, the game is not available from anywhere. Jowood has no store of their own, their buy links point to various Amazon sites and Play, and none of them have the game anymore.
The official website of the game that Jowood links to doesn't have much else, either. http://www.clou2.com/
Would be nice to see this as a part of a compilation, though.

I don't like the style of the game, something says it should be colorful and happy, but all I feel is depression, maybe it's just the bad fog effects.

I dunno, all the characters trugde around like they'd rather be dead, it feels empty and desolate, and why does everything look so dead? Or maybe it's just my hormones. Maybe it's just the bad graphics. I know, it's the stupid grey pallete they used.

The characters in the game doesnt live really

Don't forget, though. The police are opressive, they enforce a curfew. They can't go out at night. Of course they're depressed.
Another thing, you're a criminal! I'm not surprised it's miserable.

But it's so lifeless, makes you feel alone, and want to stop playing.

This game rocks dude! :Brain: Thanks for uploading it! I downloaded this game last saturday and I couldn't stop playing! The city's pretty depressing though. Hm...I doubt anyone will read this for a couple more months but, eh. If someone does, do ya have any advice?
I think this game's cool, but then cloudiness and dreariness make me feel happier. Eek! As of now, we're in a storm warning here in Nebraska too, yeah! Anywho, I just bought the soldering thing for $900 and now I read that I need an accomplice to help me at the Hotel, not the soldering thing. Grr. Hm...I guess I'll go at it until I crack the safe with the hand drill. That should work...after an hour.

I realy love this game!
It has awful graphics but it's charms are just great, characters are very interesting, city looks empty though. Making plans is very fun and pretty hard but it suits my taste. I bought this game when it was released back in 2001, haven't finished it jet. I think I'm at the last level(plan). Probably going to finish it by end of this or during next year. :)
