Well what do you think??
What intro movie(from any game, any age) blew you away?
I just watched the intro movie for Armies of Exigo.I was stunned!
It is brilliant.I have yet to play the game, but as it started, it sounds very promising

Outcast,
Mafia,
Nethack ()

uuh...i played Outcast..
But cant remember intro...can you explain how it goes
A long moving view of the beautiful landscape while in the backround plays the (Moscow?) symphony orcesthra, And then slowly it moves inside a house & near the fireplace where the player lies /-
(Or thatīs how I remember it)
What was the "uuh" about,
Didnīt like the game?

Not liking Outcast's blasphemy. Not liking Giants: Citizen Kabuto is like blasphemous blasphemy. No bad word 'bout either one.
As for best game intro movie... Full Throttle had one that plunged you right into the game's atmosphere. Also, MI3's intro movie was just beautiful and funny. That one goes on a second place. As for the third place... there're visions of several RPGs swirling through my head, fighting for focus, but I think I'll have to settle with the one of Diablo 2, simply because I can still recall how that one went.

The two I liked were from Deus Ex and Grim Fandango, although especially Deus Ex got it just got me pumped up for the game.

MI 3
DOTT
Sam and Max
The Treasure Thieves Part 1 - 8 :D
deus ex's intro was great, it really gave you a good insight into the initial story without giving too much away

LOL gotta love the Sam & Max intro:
"Now, where can we put this bomb so it won't hurt anyone we know or care about?"
"Throw it out of the window, there's only strangers out there."

Keep an eye out. It's possible you'll be seeing a movie based of X-Com in less than 2 years. It'll be a 3 part-movie like the lord of the rings.

Outcast had a great intromovie.
i'm talking about the CGI one, not the ingame one. Where you hear newsreports in the background about stringtheories and dimentional travel and other stuff relevant to the story. and then the entire helicopter ride to the military base and such.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein had a great intro too, as did Half-Life

starcraft-just love does terrains suttounded by zergs

Yes,
Deus Esīs intro had a great athmosphere /-
I remember how I a couple years ago knew it almost by heart... /-
Also one worth mentioning would be King Of Dragon Passīs intro,
though it was more of an Still picture line-up than a movie /-

Metal Gear Solid 3 has a great intro movie. Although it actually has several different intros.

Best game intro movie...I don't know, but movies IN the game:
- C&C
- StarCraft
- Diablo 2
- WarCraft 3 - "Son, what are you doing?"
...................- "I'm taking your rule!"
...................- *slice*

Besides the ones already mentioned, mechwarrior 2, 3, and 4. Those movieswere fantastic because they were so involving.

I-War 2: Edge of Chaos had a great opening.
Rome: Total War could have been really good, but they took low-res video footage of the game instead of using the game engine itself. :wall:

Besides some already mentioned...
Fallout.
"War. War never changes." Ron Perlman. :kosta:

I mentioned C&C for the installation sequence, but I forgot to say that the ultimate intro movie comes from MechCommander... I could watch that crappy movie hundred of times, it would always be great each time...
-"Turn..."
-"Take the turn!"
-"It's a dead end. I don't have jump jets!"
-"I know what you got, hold your position!"
*The Raven turn back and see the Mad Cat positioning itself to deal the final blow
-"Damnit Sir, I need some help!"
-"Here it comes..."
*A volley of LRM (Long Range Missile) from 2 other Mechs fly and directly hit the Mad Cat back, hitting it's reactor and making it explode.

I think Red Alert 2 had a pretty neat intro. But I think my favorite had to be Quake 2 for when it came out. I was completely unprepared for that intro! The music was hard with a huge scale, then it went chilling and eerie near the end. Just the ship with all the turrets passing under was amazing.
To date, I guess my favorite intro would be Doom 3. Those effects are amazing!

Starcraft had the lamest video ever. Quake 2 was pretty bad too. They were both booooring! I didn't really like the Quake 2 music either - stupid rock music. It was a great game, but the movies and music sucked so I played the game with no cd.
Red Alert 2 was okay if you can look past some of the cheese. The conversations were very bad. The best part was the Soviet units destroying America.
In my opinion the best intro movie was from "Outlaws". Has anybody here seen it? Outlaws had extremely good music too. 10 out of 10 easily.

But cheesegrater, the cheese (hah) is exactly why I love C&C cinematics so damn much.

My favourite movie intro was the powerful one for Zork Nemesis. The first time I saw it, my reaction was :eeeeeh: as it featured a man stabbing himself in the stomach with a lethal looking knife. Then the player travelled into the wound and down a blood-filled artery and suddenly we were shooting over a massive and exotic underground building before stopping abruptly at the gates. All this was accompanied by haunting music. When the player arrives at the gates a soft and lovely female voice explains that since the day of the Great Eclipse the land has been cursed by evil and they're waiting for someone to come and release them from this evil curse.
The game lived up to this compelling beginning - and more. :max:

Somebody already mentioned Fallout, but I actually never played it; I imagine it's very good, though. Fallout Tactics has a very nice intro - it's not that it was so cool, really, as much as it put the viewer into the game; after seeing it, I truly felt as if I was a surviver of the nucear war and whatever :D The Fallout games story is actually very well crafted, in my opinion.

Kingdom Hearts for the GBA had a very nice intro movie. The grass in it looks very real.
But the best I would say is Hidden and Dangerous 2. I recommend people buy the game just for the intro. LOL
I can't remember many others. Does anyone know or remember what the intro for Unreal 2 was? I've completely forgotten it.
Havell

Unreal 2 didn't really have an intro, just them flying around from planet to planet (there was sort of an intro when they found the first artefact though).

How could I forget Fallout 2???
"War, war never changes. The end of the world occured pretty much as we predicted. To many humans, not enough spaces or resources....The details are, as always, pointless and trivial." - intro goes something like this
Also few in game movies are stunning (leaving San Francisco with ship) :ok:

Return To Castle Wolfenstein had a great intro. I also really like the intro to Myst, just for Atrus' commentary.
EDIT- Yup, I forgot Fallout too. Which is stupid, as that's what I had intended to post until someone else mentioned RtCW. Yes, Fallout's "War never changes" bit is pure gold.

Hmm,
I loved the first run video in C&C TS. The intros to both sides were awsome too. Another good one was the FFXI intro. Was cool when the orc attacked the viallage and all the archers swords men, and mages fightin back. Kinda sad how the kids sister gets killed by an orc. The hl1 intro was good for the first time, but got boring later on.

Now that you remind me, that was great too. So were the two expansions, and all the in-game cutscenes in both. If someone could create a game with the single-player gameplay of OFB but the graphics and controls of Battlefield then I'd be truly happy. :D

Quality Intros/Ingame Movies
C&C series = It was worth buying the games just for them
Mechcommander
Starcraft = For terran comedy value
Warcraft III
World of Warcraft
Fallout series = Just showed you how much they thought through the storyline and as has already been mentioned the first line of 'War...War Never changes' I loved how they started every game with that line

Fallouts were great (I didn't see anyone mention the other part of Fallout 2 with the people coming out of the vault and their welcoming committee... :rifle: )
Torment was probably my favorite. Even better, was one of it's demos.. I think the one that came with BG1. I've actually searched through my Interplay collection just to watch that demo before!
Other nice ones.. Deus Ex: IW (can't remember the first one.. I'll have to check it out again), Crusader: No Remorse
The Fifth Horseman

1. Ufo: Enemy Unknown
2. Space Hulk
3. Bloodrayne
4. Flashback: Quest for identity

I'd have to say the intro to Empire Earth. Watching the different means of war progressing through the ages... I love watching it in a darkened room with the sound cranked up!
One intro that I like is the intro to Grim Fandango and also the intro to the first level of Command & Conquer: Renegade (I know it's not really a game intro, more a level intro, but it's good). Where Recon one becomes attacked and calls back to base: We are under attack, request immediate reinforcements. And the base answears: Hang in there Recon one, We're sending you a commando.
It gave me the chills the first time i played it, because it made you feel superior that they would send you instead of a unit with tanks.

The best intro has to be for Another World/Out of this World. You know about as much what's going on as the character.
marko river
24-01-2005, 02:21 PM
When Another World came out, intro was something out of this world (get it, AW an out of this world :) )
In the name of the world, did you all forget Bioforge? I think that intro was definately one of the best. My friend and I watched it over and over again.
I liked C&C a lot, but I liked the best that movie in NOD campaign before returning to Egypt I think, when you receive Flame thank. Kane is playing Chess with himslef and present yoy Flame Tank - animation was great!
You already mentioned DOTT and Sam&Max. Lucasarts had real good intros (Dark Forces, Tie Fighters)
I have to mention Quarantine, well it's not like intro. When I first played it with my friend, we started the game for 10 times. There was some company introduction with some strange head and three tones incredibly clear. And then, you see burning fire and straight simple sound, incredibly clear wich gave us the thrills. Can't really explain.
Leasure Suit Larry3 - 6 (in 3rd part I think phonecell comes out in the middle of jungle, that almost killed me), Simon the Sorrcerer 2, Lands of Lore 2, Warcraft 2 & 3, Diablo, HL..................
and at the end Master of Magic:
- Old man, you seek the spell of mastery.
- You have come too late. My work has already met this spell.
- If that is the true, then your work must stop!
