I'm curious. If QFG 1 VGA and QFG 3 is considered abandonware, does that mean QFG 1 EGA, QFG 2, and QFG 4 are abandonware as well? If so, why are these three not up on the site? Those would be some killer games to be able to have, especially because then one would be able to play the entire series (well, up to Dragon Fire atleast.) Any explanations or comments? Happy Christmahannakwanzakahdaan everyone (I think that covers all holidays)!

I'm pretty sure I've seen the entire series on some abandonware boards, but that doesn't mean they were doing the legal thing. It's also possible that what's legal in one country isn't in another, and that the rights could have lapsed in (for example) Singapore when they haven't in the US.

Hey, I volunteered to review these awhile ago! It might be kind of bias though, because I really love the series

Well they're all brilliant games, so they deserve a good review anyways.

how is it that I go about writing a review? Is there someone I need to contact? If I do write the review, is there a certain structure or format I should follow?

Kosta, Tom or Wendy would do most of the time. Otherwise, try another admin.

If I do write the review, is there a certain structure or format I should follow?
Nope. Easiest way's like this though:

1) Introduction
2) General explanation of the game
3) In-detail explanation of each part/feature
*-> Basically exists out of these:

* Graphics
* Gameplay
* Sound
* Story/Concept

4) General conclusion
5) Based on all that's said before, why somebody would or wouldn't play the game

Hope this helps.

I think QFG4 should be uploaded or the whole anthology CD.
Ive looked around and found that sierra doesnt support or sell the QFG1-4 games. They dont recive any royalties on these games anymore and therfore are abandoned.

ReamusLQ
05-02-2005, 02:57 AM
but they are still in question of whether or not they are abandoned

Kon-Tiki

's More an ESA matter.

@Maikel, the QfG1 on the site's the remake. The original EGA one's lacking (which, in my opinion, is one of the best games around)

Darken

I would defined aboandoned as
1. not supporting (technical or other wise) the game.
2. No long reciving royalties (or no longer selling on a commercial market.)

I dont see why QFG4 cannot be abandoned while QFG 1-3 is. There is even copyright infringments against these games and there has been no action against it legal or otherwise. People are making there own games useing Sierra Online sprites and enviorments with no concequence. If company let people just use there ideas whenever, there is no way they could make any profit whatsoever. So they obviously just plainly flatout do not care.

I just dont get how people can say QFG4 isnt abandoned. Is there anybody who agrees with me on this?

Woo!

Was QfG3 approved? cos I'll review that one too...

anyways, I will start the QfG4 review... I might just play through it with the voices on (I had the floppy version earlier in life).

Edit: Should I make a thread in "needing reviews"? or is mentioning my intention in this thread enough?

Hello, People! :)

i would like to reach deep into the community's mind and
find an answer to a burning question.
I played a game when I was young and I forgot the name of it.
I have been searching communities and forums on and off for at least
5 years now, but have been unable to find it.
Will you be able to help?

Here is what I remember:
It is a quest about vampires. I cannot recall the main character, however I
believe it began in a village. There was a labyrinth in a forest.
The game was incredibly well drawn for its time (circa 1993).

Unfortunately that is all I can remember and it is not all that distinctive.
If any of you could help, I would appreciate it greatly. :)

Thank you!

Veil of Darkness (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/301/Veil+of+Darkness.html)?

Thanks for the suggestion, however this is not the game. :)
It was not isometric and I believe it was not an adventure game in which the character could die. I believe it also had no RPG elements. :)
I have played Veil of Darkness already, sorry I did not mention this earlier.

Cheers!

Laterist, first of all, welcome to the forum :)

Looks like we need more info. Is it First Person view, or Third Person view (juts not in isometric perspective)? You are saying it is not an adventure game in which the character could die, but is it still an adventure game nevertheless? No RPG element. Is the main character out to kill vampires, or is he/she a vampire? What is the time setting (modern, medieval, etc.)?

Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here. :)

It was a Third person game. Yes - an adventure game like Discworld or Monkey Island. :) I'm not exactly sure if I remember correctly, but I believe the character had to hunt vampires.
I also think (not so sure on this one) you could choose characters (I think there were at least two to choose from.), but I am not so sure.
I have remembered this morning, that after the forest maze, there was a medieval village. In this village, there were cloves of garlic hanging on the houses and the character wondered why.

hunvagy - It is not this game, since this game is not first person. Thanks anyway. :)

Thanks for the quick replies, hope this info helps. :)

Thanks for the reply, but the game I am looking for was more along the lines of Discworld and Monkey Island in terms of gameplay and graphics. :)
It also had a side-view camera and not a top-down one.

I think I know the game you are looking for because I to, am seeking it out. I belive the games was called The Awesome Adventures of Victor Vector and Yando: The vampires coffin. From what i can remember it had graphics as good as Monkey Island 3. But I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Here is a link to mobygames describeing the game. Hope this helps.

This isn't the game, but if you haven't already played BloodNet (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/201/BloodNet.html) it's worth a look at, man.

There is also this game here, which looks pretty good: A Vampyre Story (http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/avampyrestory/index.html)
This is probably the best seach at Abandonia.com - http://www.abandonia.com/en/game/all/Medieval/3rd+Person/sortby%3D0?page=0

If you keep relaying parts of the game's story, you may jog people's memories better :D

The garlic cloves hanging on houses remind me of Quest for Glory IV (http://www.mobygames.com/game/quest-for-glory-iv-shadows-of-darkness), but since you said the game has no RPG elements and the character cannot die, I am sure it is not the game. Especially since you do not get to choose the characters, you just choose the class.

Drascula: The Vampire Strikes Back (http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Drascula:_The_Vampire_Strikes_Back) is an adventure game with vampires, but I have never played it so I do not know much about it. I just thought I'd mention it here.

Thanks for everybody for all of the timely and good suggestions. :)
It is apparently Quest for Glory IV (according to my YouTube video research.)! :)
I was very young at the time of playing and apparently hadn't reached the dying parts yet. Also graphics must have seemed more unbelievable than I have factored in now. :)
Thanks rabadi and everybody else for the great suggestions and the help.
Hope to return the favor someday.
Off to (hopefully) buy and play Quest for Glory IV now!
Cheers.

So you do not need to buy it :3:

Nope Frodo, it's the same as on their sister site (brother site....?) 3DSxxxxxx , what they call ISO demo are the full (plenty to be considered as warez) games.
