I downloaded the file for Mechwarrior 2 31st Century Combat and only found the .bin file. Is there suppose to be a .cue file with it as well, or is it only the .bin file?

I ran the game using the MECH2_16B.bin file - There was no other file, just the CD-image.
Mount it in Daemon Tools or Alcohol120 or whatever you use a virtual cd drive.
If you need to change the file extension (Daemon sometimes doesn't "see" .bin's but it will load them if you select them), you can just change it to .iso by clicking it.
Daemon will load the .iso extension, changed from bin, with no problems.

Thanks for the help, I keep forgetting that you can mount bin files with Daemon tools like this.

I tried mounting the .BIN files, but only about 200MB of 600MB are recognised as data files, which means the CDs contain Redbook audio not recognised when mounting. Is a .cue file foundable? The audio tracks are mapped within the cuesheets.

I mounted the bin with Daemon tools, the game installed fine but refuses to run with error message: "Error: MechWarrior2 CD-Rom not found."
I'm using DosBox 0.73
Anyone have a solution how to make the game work?

Thanks for the .cue file.
Unfortunately I still get the CD not found error.
I played the music files with WMP, so they are recognized correctly.
Anyone been able to get this game to run in DosBox?

The best suggestion I can give you would be to use a CDRW and burn a copy of the disc. Try loading that in DosBox and see if the game will play, I know that I got it running that way once when testing.

I meant the cuesheet for the Ghost Bear's Legacy expansion... the original game works fine with music but not the expansion :dunno:.

I am still unable to get Mechwarrior 2 to run in DosBox. I keep getting "Mechwarrior 2 CD not found." I went to the trouble of burning the .bin to a CD and installing it through DosBox and then trying to run the game, but the error keeps coming.
I can only find one method of disabling the CD detection and I think it's meant for the original version (I have it patched to 1.1).
Any ideas? I'd really like to play this again.
edit: I also can't get the sound configuration to work either; I run mw2setup in Dosbox and Dosbox crashes as soon as I select the sound configuration option. I'm not sure why.

You must select the cue file when burning a mixed mode CD, not the bin file ....

Same here, if you don't mount/burn via the cue file the CD is borked.

For MW2 to work in DOSBox, you need several things...
1- The DOS game must be at v1.1. If it's not, grab the patch here (http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dlp.cgi?lang=&sys=pc&file=mech2v11.zip&ref=ps).
2- You MUST use the hacked version of the executables. These can be found here (http://www.jaylittle.com/jaylittle/downloads/mech2_1.1_crack.zip).
3- For the music, you need to mount the game CD image via the IMGMOUNT command in DOSBox. To do this, simply put the cue/bin combo in the folder where MW2 was installed to, copy the location of it (right click on the file and copy it from there), and then add it to the "autoexec" section of DOSBox. Here's what I did for mine...
imgmount e "C:\DOSGames\mech2_16b.cue" -t iso -fs iso
If you don't do this, the game may very well crash or even reboot your system (that's what it did to me) when the music tries to start playing.

Really? I just had to manually apply the v1.1 patch (if I ran the patch in DOSBox it screwed things up and the game wouldn't start). Didn't need any hacked executables.

Huh. Guess they fixed that part.
Well, then skip step two boys and girls

I've gotten it working well so far by following the instructions on the dosbox wiki, but I can't seem to get any music, any advice?

Check the soundcard configuration. Are you mounting the CUEsheet or the BIN? Might make a difference. You could see if using an external virtual drive program instead of IMGMOUNT helps (usually not recommended for performance reasons, but might be the solution here).

Thanks! I managed to get it working simply by mounting it to my already existing cd drive E as opposed to a new drive D...I'm not sure what difference that made but the music is now working properly. I originally figured D should be where I mount it since that used to be the standard disc drive back in the day.

I was watching a video of this game on Youtube and found out that this game has midi music during certain parts of the game (mostly noticed in the Wolf and Jade Falcon headquarters). No mater what I did though, I couldn't get this music to play. Finally, I decided to install the game with MechVM from Mech2.org and that finally got the midi music working.
I was wondering, has anyone else managed to get this music working in DOSBox?
P.S. I'm not talking about the mission music (which is CD audio music), I'm talking about the menu music which appears to be midi music.

Me :max:, select general MIDI for MIDI music and SB16 for digital audio in sound setup -> music in menus.

Me :max:, select general MIDI for MIDI music and SB16 for digital audio in sound setup -> music in menus.
I tried doing that, but it didn't word for me. I ended up manually moving the SND directory from the CD to the main Mechwarrior 2 directory. After that I went into the setup program and set the MIDI sound to Sound Blaster 16 and that finally gave me the main menu music. Thanks for the advice though.:)

Thank You for the uploads. When I was a kid, my stepdad had what may have been pirated versions of these since there was no music or fmv's...

Hello, guys! Would you please re-upload the DOS version of MW2 to any hosting other than 4shared?
Thanks in advance. :)
