What about the Gabriel Knight Series? I figure if the QFG series is abandonware, than the GK series must be as well.

now there is an idea if abandonia is able to put it up.

I've just bought the last one in the series: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned and it's on 3 CDs. (An amazing game, although Gabriel comes across as a total redneck. He was a more interesting character in previous games.) My Pentium 200mhz computer is really struggling with the vast amount of texture rendering in this one. Also have the first one in the series, Sins of The Fathers, which is much smaller but still a CD in size.

I've seen Sins of the Fathers in two sizes... 14Mb and CD size. Seen it in the 14Mb version alot more often than the CD size, too. For some reason, a couple of archives with the game, non-CD, have been found all over my HD

That 14 MB version is probably RIP version. I have it, on English and it works fine. I can upload it. I guess that Tom and Kosta probably have it too.

So? Are we up to CD version or this is enough for now?

Kon-Tiki

CD-version's probably way too big, I'm afraid.

I have the disc (non-speech) version of Gabriel 1, and that's about 16 megs unzipped, so it could easily go on the site.

The CD version is too big, I reckon. I have it, but it's much harder to get to run (plus the version I have has all the text in French, although the speech is English. And not that great. Mark Hammil doing a New Orleans accent is painful).

I also have GK2- The Beast Within. Suffice it to say that it's all FMV and comes on 6 CDs. Not gonna happen on Abandonia any time soon.

However, assuming GK1 is viable, I would love to review it and put it up. It's definitely more than worthy of a place here.

I have the 14MB version also. But Gabriel Kight is not ABW. Sorry.

Care to let us know where it's sold?

It is a Sierra game. Need more?

Kon-Tiki

Goldrush is from Sierra too. Where can I buy that?

Fawfulhasfury

Gold Rush is ABW. And coming soon. Gabriel Knight is more new and Sierra is touchy when it comes to their more well-known and newer games.

How 'bout Leisure Suit Larry 5 and 6? Or Kings Quest 5 and 6? Police Quest 3 and 4?

All the Sierra (adventure) games that are going to be on the site are on the site and that will hold true for a long time.

If you want to buy Sierra guys that aren't abandonware, check Amazon, eBay, etc.

Kon-Tiki

A game isn't abandonware when the developers or publishers earn from it. Amazon and Ebay won't pay them, it's between the seller and the buyer.

ReamusLQ
28-12-2004, 01:44 AM
so...does that mean it's abandonware or no?

goblins
28-12-2004, 01:52 AM
i think what these guys means is if it is still being sold anywhere on the web and the comanny earn money and royalties from its sale then its not abandonware when it is completley abandoned and not sold directly by the company and its supply outlets then it is abandonware - ebay doesnt count because it is private individuals buying and selling their own goods.

Hi

Even I would be interested in playing Gabriel Knights 2. Sierra does not hosts these games on their site anymore so I think it must have become ABW. Please check as I have really been searching high and low to download GK2.

Jal :D

Whether they host the game on their website or not has nothing to do with the game's legal status, unfortunately. And it would be a shame if a good abandonware site like this got sued by a company for hosting a product that wasn't abandonware--because some people wanted it badly.

Try writing the current owners of Sierra, and ask them about either re-releasing the title, or freeing up its rights.

I think the 3 games of the series are a bit different that way.

GK1 could be put on abandonia the same way the other sierra games of that era are here, which have also a quite questionable abandonware status, but I think abandonia has some permit for them.

GK2 is too big, so its impossible to put that on the site even if it would be abandonware. By the way does anyone know some place apart from ebay, to get a new copy for a few euros?

GK3 is still sold as sierra best seller for 6€, so its deffinately not abandonware.

It's copyrighted by an ESA member. That means it isn't abandonware. It would be nice if it were otherwise...but hoping it's so doesn't make it so. ;)

Which Sierra titles on Abbandonia are of questionable abandonware status?

Razor2
01-01-2005, 11:34 AM
I think all adventures from that age are also copyrighted, so if GK1 is not abandonware, most KQ, SQ and other stuff is in the same status.

sierra haven't asked abandonia to take the games down, infact i think we have permission to host them for download, you'd have to check with kosta for the definite answer to that.

As it says on the site, check often. ;) While that kind of comment is often used as a way to boost net traffic, it's also true in this case. New product arrives all the time, and is sold all the time. This goes for eBay and Amazon, too. Amazon also allows you to maintain a wishlist that you can easily check for a series of items: at a glance, you can see what used versions of the items you want are selling for.

Another reason GK 2 can't be on this site is because it's too damn big. It's about 4 CDs, due to all the Full Motion Video.

When you ask for a game, please consider not just it's abandonware status, but it's size.

I hope this helps put an end to all the potential "pls hst gk 2" posts.

Six CDs actually.

I rented it from the library a while ago with the intention of using a CD burner to get myself a copy, but disc 2 was corrupt. Seriously, does everyone but me use rental CDs as coasters, frisbees, and scratching posts?

Many people I saw, actually. They seem to believe that cd's keep to be readable when they're handled not as carefully as they should.

It's a trend I noticed a lot on new computer users. They tend to think CD's are indestructable and last forever. Good thing most of them don't even know what a floppy is!

You should have seen the face of the teen a month ago when I told him that bringing a floppy in a subway erase everything on it because of electromagnetism. Until I tell him he had no clue. LOL

This was such an amazing game that truely lived up to those of its genre... Now the real question is... Does anyone out there have it. Or if by some twist of fate I can dig up the floppies for it. Could we even put it up?

Frodo
11-05-2006, 09:12 PM
Sorry. It's not abandoned, so we can't host it.

Try looking on eBay for it. :ok:

So... This question must come up ALOT... But I tried calling Sierra directly and asked about purchasing a copy of this fine title. Well, after speaking to the sales rep and two supervisors, I recieved the same answer... We're sorry, but that game is no longer in production.

So it seems, Sierra abandoned it.... YET... It's still copyrighted... They don't plan to make anymore money from it. This doesn't make sense to me. Then again, not much in this crazy world does.
