Well, recently I found a couple of games on my system.
Settlers: The original!
Solar Winds: A Top-Down GTA-style space Action game where you are a bounty hunter
Megalomania: Don't really know what to compare this with.
I'll start working on a review for the last 2, but original settlers isn't the most cooperative game I've ever seen.

Original settlers is cool. I used to play that ages ago, and it would be nice to have on the site. Settlers II Gold is also great. I'm currently donloading Settlers IV which should be good when I finally get it.

To Aladar: can you give me more exact info on this problem? I believe I know what it is.
To Everyone: The only problem with Settlers I is it crashes everytime I connect a building to the HQ with a rioad.

I was just wonderin', is Solar Winds 1 or 2 abandonware yet? and if not, I'd LOVE it if someone can tell me a game that's close to Solar winds. (eg. Fly through space with freedom, you control the ship directly, and has a storyline, and isn't a PURE shoot-em-up) Star Control 2 is a wonderful version of this, but im looking for a game closer to Solar Winds, rather than Star Control, but both are the BEST games (IMO)
I know i'm picky x_x

I don't think there are much games similar to it, at least I don't know any...
Solar Winds is a great game though although the 2nd episode disappointed me when I played it a while ago, don't know why probably because I had great memories about the shareware part... ;)
MrBackAlleySka
09-02-2005, 07:55 PM
Yeh true. I's so funny that All "falsely informed" Abandonware sites have the second episode abandonware FULL, but when I download the 1st one that's labled 'abandonware', it's always they shareware version.
Braindead
09-02-2005, 08:28 PM
Solar winds consists of 2 episodes: the 1st episode is shareware (and there doesn't exist a 1st episode that's longer, hence why it's a 1st episode :D), the 2nd episode is the continuation of the 1st episode. We can not provide the 2nd episode though since you can still buy the game... :ok: (click on blackmagejawa's link for the buy-link..)

Aha I see now! (And I wasn't calling Abandonia a 'falsely informed' abandonware site. There are sites that think Solar Winds is abandoned. Thats what I meant.) But I see. Hahaaa, no wonder every copy I tried to buy kept saying "shareware version" that throws you off x_x well, Now I regret returning part one to EB games eehee.....

Pls help...
Theres a game that I used to have YEARS ago, it was a top down space adventure game where you had to communicate with different species of Alien, and you had a warp drive that you could use to get to other co-ordinates in the galaxy... IT was part Action (space fighting) / part adventure. From what I remember there was this race that was very aggressive and they were planning to create an ultimate weapon, and it's the players mission to stop them (the usual stuff  ). Once you had got to a certain bit tho, it asked you to get the second part to continue, and I never found it, or the first again.
If any1 can help, it'd be appreciated.

Wait, is this a request or are you trying to get the game to work?
If that's the case just download DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1) , if you don't have it already it's pretty easy to use, if you can't figure it out just refer to the site's Tutorial (http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=index&FAQ=1).

It might be more accurate to say that it's in the works, rather than "it is." All the team has produced thus far are music remixes. If they're actually working on a freeware version of the game, they've put up nothing to indicate progress. I do hope it's coming along, but of course, we all have our real-life schedules to attend to.

You were saying? It's in alpha status, but it's plenty playable and more-or-less complete. The music remixes are what's on the main page because that's what they're working on RIGHT NOW.
Try actually READING the site instead of looking at the site.

Ngg... , wasn't Star Control that semi-humourous space Master of Orion-type thingy?
Mentor
24-02-2005, 04:58 PM
Yeah and Nay. It did do a lot of the really funny alien types and alien reactions, but it was more of a sim than a 4X. Everything was real-time, you could have multiple ships and you could outfit them with pods for weapons, crew, etcetera.
The real GOAL was to collect enough resources to raise a fleet and strike back against the Ur-Quan, so it really boiled down to a RTS minus the S.

Hey guys! New here to the forum and have just found a new interest in those cool old games. So, now with that said I used to play a game in the mid nineties that I would love to play again but for the life of me I don't remember it!.....heres what I do remember.
It was a free roaming space game where you controlled a ship that stayed in the centre of the screen.
There were planets that you could "investigate"....I think, or was that an old star trek game?
There were other ships that would attack you at will or try to communicate with you.
and I'm pretty sure you were a bounty hunter. No wait. you definetly WERE a bounty hunter.
You could accept different missions from other ships, if you accepted that mission and then found the person you could kill, they would sometimes offer you more money too not kill them and go into hiding.
I remember one mission had you flying off to the North West on a mission and it took FOREVER to get there but was well worth the effort as it was an intersting mission.
I'm pretty sure the copy I had was shareware if thats any help.
If anyone can help me that would be FANTASTIC
I really can't think of anything else to add. Hopefully someone will point me into the right direction.
Thanks guys and girls(?)
Ray.

Im not certian, but it is Sundog: Frozen Legacy? Thats the one I was thinking of....but I don't remember it, it's been forever.
I'm going to suggest Escape Velocity (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/), even if it isn't the one you're looking for, it's probably close in spirit.

3.Strange adventures in infinite space(Guess)

No, it's Solar Wing. Because of I remember one mission had you flying off to the North West on a mission and it took FOREVER to get there but was well worth the effort as it was an intersting mission.
which is a suicide mission given to you by the end of the shareware title in which the company which hired you expect you to never come back because they want to get rid of you. But you end up meeting a strange friendly Alien who help you get back.

The game's called Solar Winds, or at least the shareware was.
You had to steal fuel afterwards :D

Solar Winds 2 is bunk. I bought it and it was horrible, finished it on 7-10 minutes. The Shareware version (part one, wrongly called the shareware version since the Shareware version of Solar Winds IS the full version of Solar Winds 1) Is longer than Solar Winds 2!!

Any suggestions? I did find one site that offered it but I downloaded it and it wasn't really a file...I'm on dial up and it said download complete just after I hit the "ok" button..then I couldn't open it either....I'm waiting for an email from the wibsite but I'm not holding my breath....
MrBackAlleySka
01-08-2005, 12:07 AM
There is no "complete" version of version 1. the shareware version of version 1 IS the complete version. To continue the game is to play Solar Winds 2, there's no full version of 1. You THINK you dont have the full game, because it says shareware, but you do.

Xargon. You are a man with flowing blond locks that can shoot energy out of his hands, and punch giant bees. I used to love this game, along with another one. I can't remember its name, and when I saw Project Nomad, and ones like it, it all came back to me. Everything except the Title. You fly around and there are different planets you can fly above, then communicate down and that could give you missions, and every so often red ships that look like O> would attack you (they were "rebels" or "pirates" or something). As soon as I see the name I will know it, yet I have failed to see it... So someone should put Xargon on, and if anyone knows what game I'm thinking of please tell me.
Edit: Star Hammer! I think that's what the game is. More on this later.
Edit: Nope....

Ok, I am looking for a game, that I played when I was younger. I don't remember the title and I don't recall that much about it either... I will try giving you the information I remember and see if anyone can help me.
The game is set in space. You have a spaceship. You travel to different planets - I am not sure why .
I think the game was adventure'ish - at least I remember talking to other characters on the different planets. Different from normal point and clickers though. You have to pilot the plane manually though and steer it with the arrow keys. It might not be an adventure game - I think there was talking though. And buying/obtaining stuff for your ship.
Maybe there was shooting... As part of the story.
While flying in your (blue (I think)) spaceship you view it from above.
At some point in the story you get/buy/find some sort of device that enables you to travel over long distances quickly - I however often used this up and had to fly these long distances manually, which took a damn long time.
You are playing as a male human.
There may be a big, corrupt empire and your family might be in danger (of this however, I am far from sure)
I know it is not much, but if someone could help me out here, I would be very grateful!
Thanks!

I'm not sure if i remember this one correctly, but i vaguely remember playing a game in the very early 90s. You would fly a space ship in some galaxy, going from planet to planet, in what were perhaps different star systems. Every planet had some sort of a leader if i remember correctly and you could do quests for them. I think combat was present in the orbit of the planets. I also know that there was supposed to be a sequel to the game that i have nver obtained.
I sure hope someone can remember this one.

I forgot to mention, it reminds me of xenon, but you could move in 360 degrees. But i don't remember any other details, maybe combat was like that, and travel was similar to master of orion.

I guess StarControl series.
Any more hints?
pailhead
01-11-2009, 11:41 AM
Now that you mention it was very very similar to star control. I have a box set of star control 1-2-3 (though io nly played 3). This wasnt it. Damn im trying to think of any more hints but i cant.
Now this maybe be completely wrong but i think that traveling took a while, meaning you would have to leave your ship going in a certain direction and wait a while.
*edit*
Star control always involved a larger scale plot? I know i used to control a fleet in SC3. The game im talking about was solo. One ship only.
goomohn26
01-11-2009, 01:09 PM
Yeah Starcontrol 2 was a grand scale space strategy. You built up a ship from scratch and encountered Aliens througout the galaxy building up an alliance into a fleet to defeat the Ur'Quan slave masters. Perhaps this game your seeking is SC1 or SC2. I haven't played many space games but Star Control 2 is my favorite next to MOO2. They redid SC2 with voice acting and reedited displays check it out: http://reloaded.org/download/Ur-Quan-Masters/84/
Good luck in your search.

As soon as you said that there was supposed to be sequel, it was clear that it is Solar Winds. It is shareware, so you probably played first part that is free, which is also advertising for second part. Since it is shareware, it is not likely to be added to the site soon. Maybe sometimes in future.
